May 26 Pride Greenland Cruise Weather Issues

Okay. I was relaying what an alchemist told me.

Maybe it was the one week it made it in the two months (or however long it was).

 

It can be disappointing to miss a port, especially something as special as going to Greenland, but it happens. Better to be safe.

We are booked on the 8 Sept sailing to Greenland and no regrets.  Even if we are not able to dock and visit, the sailing the area will be amazing.  Yes, there is the "I have actually set foot on Greenland" factor, but at my age (70) I am crossing off bucket list items, and for our Sept sailing hope to be able to see the Northern Lights is my #1 personal goal.  

I dont see this all that different than sailing Alaska.  We sailed mid summer and still could not make the inlets because of ice...it happens.  You roll with the punches and enjoy what you get.  Having sailed Hawaii a lot, I can tell you the best part of sailing Hawaii is sitting onboard appreciating the coastline unspoiled by man or roads.  THAT is the true, raw beauty of anywhere at all.  Getting to enjoy the areas untouched by humans after all these years.

I applaud your view.  I will tell you booked for last September and never even got close.  We ended up doing the St Lawrence seaway up and back 4 times.  Those stops were just fine,  The issue was we could have done that cruise for about a third of what we paid.  Our goals were northern lights….nope, Icebergs……nope, Greenland……nope.  Rolling with the punches is fine and yes, we did enjoy the cruise, paying 8k for a cruise to Canada, not so much.

Of course you are right, we had two hurricanes converge, and in the end I understood and agreed with their logic.  Were we disappointed in a big way….yup.

This kind of suspense is not for me!  I personally get miffed if the seas are a little rough preventing us from tendering ashore at Cabo San Lucas!

She definitely said they were prepared for a sea day because Bimini has been a Sea day for them for two months…if that’s what you’re asking.

Oh wow I just booked for September and had no idea how iffy it is to make the Greenland ports! Hopefully will get to at least see some fjords if I miss the ports!

That sounds like quite the adventure! I’ve always wondered how weather impacts cruises in such unique locations. Did the ever-changing Arctic conditions add an unexpected twist to the experience, or were there any memorable moments despite the weather? Hope you managed to catch some stunning views of Greenland’s icy landscapes and maybe even some northern lights!

If you are referring to me, we did not get anywhere near Greenland, certainly not close enough to view anything.  We had to deal with significant weather issues approaching (the two days before we were supposed to get there) and also with yet another hurricane on the way back.  In between that we did get to see some very nice Canadian ports.  All things said, it was a nice 14 day cruise, but that said (and we tend to try for the different in travel and cruising, including a 14 day cruise to Antartica this past January), would we try this one again?  No, unless the price came down dramtically.

I was also on this cruise. This turned out to be one of the most enjoyable cruises I have taken. The entertainment in the theater was great with a bona fide Broadway singer. We attended more comedy shows than ever. I even enjoyed tracking our course and speed as we all wondered where we would end up going.

You never know how things will turn out.

I agree on the entertainment.  It was not a boring cruise, that is for sure.  I enjoyed the interaction we got with the captain and the staff.

I’m on the ship. It’s been so foggy that we can’t see more than ten feet out windows most of the time. They are out of everything but beer in the casino and out of vodka and the most popular whiskeys, out of flavored coffees in the coffee shop, there’s a crack in the deck by the pool and water leaked to the  rooms below, people are sick to the extent there were announcements, it’s not ideal to say the least.

Does not sound optimal.  I tried to find the FB groups and they are all private.   I also do not see any live reports here.

Is it Norovirus?  Or cold symptoms? 
Sorry your trip has been a bummer.  I’m booked for Greenland in September so I was excited to read about this trip.

We are also on the September cruise. Do you think the supply problems stem from the Baltimore issues or just too many days at sea so everyone drinks more?

Pretty sure a two week cruise is a two week cruise.  All supplies come from homeport.

My guess is the supply issues occurred because there were so many port days that ended up being sea days.  People eat and drink more on ships on a sea Day,
