Booking a cruiseship shore excursion requiring tender and the cruiseship is not able to call on that port?

What happens if you book a shore excursion with the cruiseship and the cruiseship is NOT able to call on that port due to unsafe conditions to tender in?  Do they credit back the OBC money you used to book the excursion?  Or do you loose your OBC?

If they cancel a shore excursion, they refund your money back into your account.

We had a tender port that was cancelled during our Solstice sailing last Dec for which we had a Celebrity shore excursion booked. Our shipboard account was credited for the amount that we paid for the shorex (link).

I can say that on my cruise last month when those of us who had booked whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier through the ship were delayed for an unknown reason.  We got to the meeting point and were informed we were delayed and not leaving for 40 minutes.  They apologized and said they were crediting us 20% for the issue.  When I got back to the ship I checked my account for another reason after dinner and the credit was already there.

Thanks mahdnc!  You are always a wealth of information!  We are sailing the Solstice, same itinerary as you had, this coming November!

Along with David - aka mahdnc - we did the same cruise in December. Fantastic!
Maybe you are interested in a teaser and some info. The private guides we picked were OUTSTANDING!

Got to thinking about this and what would happen if it's towards the end of the cruise and it's the type of OBC that they won't send back to your credit card.  I'm not much of an onboard shopper. Heck, I'm not much of an in-port shopper either... I just don't cruise to shop.  I guess if you already have drinks and specialty dining taken care of, there's nothing much to do with the $ except shop or give it to the casino. Or can it be used as a down payment on another cruise?

You are welcome and you are going to love your cruise!  Hopefully you will see Ko Samui which is a wonderful island (I have read).  If you have any non-Ko Samui questions where I can help, let me know.  Otherwise good luck and have fun with the planning and the cruise.

No, you can't use it for a future cruise booking.

The letter clearly states it is refundable OBC. It will go back to your credit card

If you are referring to the ship-wide letter that I posted, if you read it closely, it doesn't say exactly that because it is possible that the shorex was purchased with non-refundable OBC.  In that case, the shorex will be refunded as non-refundable OBC to your shipboard account and if it is unspent, it will not go back to your credit card.  If you bought the shorex with refundable OBC or your credit card, then you are good.

Ah yes.  I’ve used non refundable credit for laundry, ship shops or extra tips for staff
