How is Celebrity different?

Basic generalizations that are subjective, so....

The food and service on celebrity (MDR) is comparable to Disney.  I find the buffet on celebrity ships to be weaker than other cruise lines.  Specialty restaurants are probably equivalent overall....depends on your personal taste.

Overall, the quality of the theater entertainment on Disney will be better than what you see on Celebrity.  But....if you book an Edge Class ship, you will have more variety to entertainment than on the older ships.  If you are interested in a more traditional cruise experience, the older ships are great, if you want a more modern take on cruising go with Edge Class.

Even on a short cruise, there will probably be fewer children than other cruise lines.  I won't even bother going into thoughts on short cruises because all the Disney cruises are shorter so you have tons of experience with those.

I'd say your experience on Celebrity will probably be comparable to your Princess Cruise and feel much more upscale and adult than your NCL and Carnival cruises.  It will have a much more laid back and slow, relaxing feel than NCL and your Disney experiences.

Happy sailing!

Agree stealthdog .. After 20 Celebrity cruises we noticed a significant decline in the overall experience. Buffet was a zoo and food quality was fair at best. Princess and Holland are very similar and I would recommend itinerary and price as most important. We have graduated to smaller cruises such as Azamara and Oceania. My 2 cents

Speaking of twerking i actually saw quite a bit of that on Celebrity on a shorter spring break cruise by college age girls in tiny bikinis.

YIKES!  What would their mothers think...or better yet, their fathers?  Anyway, hopefully all twerking stays outside the casino....

We’ve cruised on all 3 Celebrity class of ships and would highly recommend for your first cruise booking it on one of the Edge class ships, if possible. Those ships have 4 different MDRs to dine in, great shows in their large triple-level theaters, The Club if you like to go to game shows, and The Eden at the back of the ship where they also periodically offer late evening production shows. If you look in my below signature area, you’ll see some Live From threads down at the bottom from when we were on the Edge and then the Apex just after cruising started back up.

I've only been on one Celebrity, the Reflection. I was disappointed with the activities, the crew seemed like they didn't want to have them. Many activities would be scheduled for an hour and it would be over in 20 or 30 minutes, they only allowed 10 singers for Karaoke, is this normal?

Not on X. But we recently returned from a 5 night on RCCL Indy.  Never again. There were adults staying in the Solarium pool for HOURS and not getting out.  Yuck.  I started calling it the pee pool. Never went into a pool on that whole cruise.

Compared to the other main stream cruise lines, Celebrity has many fewer announcements, almost no children aboard (or you never see them.), less crowds everywhere except after shows, less nickle and diming, much better room service as far as delivery,  no sexy man contests, etc.,  atmosphere is more refined overall and better service.  Of course, this is my opinion based on 27 cruises.

^^^^^ THIS!

We've often said that not being reminded constantly what a great time we're having, but to be sure to attend this next can't-miss event     etc    etc

is wonderful.  Nice not to have that on Celebrity.  You get an announcement when customs has cleared pax for disembarkation at port stops, a noon report from the captain and CD, and the odd crew emergency drill announcements.  Same applies to Silversea.

It changes the WHOLE tenor of the cruise.

Was just reading on another site, a person who liked Celebrity but will not sail with them again because they rush through the quizzes, so back to Carnival for her.

Hi my husband and I are thinking of doing a 4 night on Celebrity this fall.  We usually do one couple's trip each year but only for a few nights since we have kids at home.  We are experienced cruisers but have never done Celebrity.  We've done lots of Disney cruises (which we love), a few Carnival, one princess and one NCL.  We've liked all cruises and are not hard to please. But we are at a point where we do like a little more upscale cruises now.  We're thinking Celebrity would hit that mark for us.

How would you describe Celebrity and how is it different from other cruise lines? It looks a little more "adult" even though I know kids are permitted.  And a little more upscale.

Do they generally have good food in the main dining rooms and buffet?  Is everything included for the most part or do they "nickel and dime"?

Thanks!

We tried Celebrity for the 1st time 10 yrs ago after 9 cruises on Princess, DCL & RCCL.

We both agreed it was a small step above the other lines.

(a SMALL step--we find lines more alike than different)

Just finished our 40th cruise last month & Celebrity is still our favorite.

Eclass ships were the game changer for us--they are step up from the rest of Celebrity's ships.

We find the food to be very good overall. Specialty dining is even better.

They have an all-inclusive rate that includes drinks & wifi but not gratuities, much like NCL.

I definitely suggest you try them, particularly Eclass (Apex, Beyond, Edge, Ascent, Xcel).

If I could only sail one class of ships for the rest of my life, it would be Eclass.

ONE CAVEAT--most balconies on Eclass are called infinite verandas. These are more closely like a sun room with a window that slides down. Personally I find them little different from a covered balcony, but many do not care for them at all. If a traditional balcony is essential, you must book Sunset Verandas or Retreat (suite) rooms. (There are a very few porthole balconies as well, but the balcony is very narrow--we saw one & there did not seem to be enough room to face forward in the chair, but only face sideways)

We did do Retreat on the Beyond last April & enjoyed it--larger room, traditional balcony, exclusive lounge, restaurant & pool area. We got a terrific deal, and enjoyed it, but agreed that we are out & about all over the ship that it lost a lot of value for us. If you spend most of your time in the room and/or in these exclusive areas, I could see the value.
