njmomie Posted June 23 #1 Share Posted June 23 Planning a cruise in the Mediterranean late March through early April (10 days) on NCL Breakaway. Not sure about weather at that time in that region (first time there). Please provide your thoughts and experiences. Thank you.
CruiserBruce Posted June 23 #2 Share Posted June 23 Welcome to Cruise Critic! Many people prefer the April/May time frame because the temps are milder than the hot summer months. You can find out factual (as opposed to anecdotal) weather data by Google searching weather in a couple of your ports. For example "Rome April weather" or "Athens May weather". There is a whole section of Cruise Critic devoted to sailing the Med, located here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/8-europe/
SbbquilterUT Posted June 23 #3 Share Posted June 23 Also consider when Easter falls - this can impact closures and crowds. The weather should be lovely.

Remember that most years the date Easter is celebrated in Greece is different than the other countries in the med, and that weekend and the Monday afterward a lot of things are closed. njmomie Posted June 23 Author #6 Share Posted June 23 Thank you for that but our itinerary doesn’t include Greece.
Rare Hlitner Posted June 23 #7 Share Posted June 23 You are talking about the so-called spring shoulder season, which has been our favorite time of the year to be in the Med. The only downside is that it is not quite hot enough for folks that want to swim. On some of the Greek Islands, the "season" does not really begin until Easter so this can be a consideration in years where Easter is late. But, we were in the Med this past April, and many places were already packed with tourists. As to the weather, I suggest you do an internet search (i.e. Google) for your various destination weather averages (easy to find..by month). The Med is an expansive area and you will find some variation depending on your ports. Hank
