Questions on Spellbound and Dorios on the Sun

Recommended Posts

If you have been on the Sun would you please give me your honest opinion if Spellbound was worth the $300 per couple. We do drink, but we will not drink 22 drinks on any months, yet in one evening. Would you please let me know what you had for dinner and if the food was worth it. Also, if you went to Dorios could you get the meat cooked as you liked. I can only eat meat that is WELL done, and I am concerned that all the meat will be to undercooked for my taste. Not that it will not be good for everyone else, but not for me. Any information you can give will be appreciated.

Also, I heard that you can get a vegetarian meal at Dorios and I would like to know what would be served if I choose that while my husband had the meat dishes. Thanks....

I don’t think that is true.  It is meat, meat and mostly meat menu.  Best to go to another restaurant in my opinion.

Yes, there is a vegetarian menu at Butcher Block by Daria.

Menus for Sun here:

Spellbound - I'm very much looking forward to in my upcoming cruise.  But then, I love Magic Castle.... It's an evening experience. Lots of reviews and videos online..  4 course menu - squash soup, shrimp, steak and lobster ravioli or a fish dish or eggplant dish. Desert has been different things.. the menu has changed a couple times already.

At your table up close card tricks and such plus a show for everyone, only 30 people at a time .drinks included..

I already did a step by step review of Spellbound. Look for it.

I hate the “is it worth it” questions.  Everyone’s price point is different. I think it’s absolutely worth it to upgrade to first class for my overnight flight to Munich on Lufthansa. My husband does not. Same budget.

I thought it was a great experience that I have never done on a cruise. I couldn’t care less about the cost.

I don't know if I'd pay $300 for a magic show. Virgin has a "secret" magic show held in the bow of the ship for free.

This is our first Princess cruise and have never been to a magic show like Spellbound.  Yes, the price is high but a long time ago I was told that it is not the things you do in life that you regret but it is the things you don’t do that lingers.   Compared to the price of the cruise and airfare I am not going to let the cost of Spellbound cause me to regret not going.   I am lucky to have a good retirement and can afford the added cost.

Spellbound: I did a write up on another thread however, I've a few minutes here: I have been to the original Magic Castle in Los Angeles a couple of times and Spellbound does a very good job of recreating the atmosphere and ambience of the LA venue. After your dinner, which is very good, a Gatekeeper appears and escorts the group to the Black Door adjacent to the casino. Once inside I no longer felt like I was on a ship but was back in Los Angeles. Attention to detail is excellent as far as having all sorts of old-style magical decor and little hidden "easter eggs". We were asked not to say too much or take videos but we very much enjoyed the experience. The magic is all close-up magic. The first show is done at the bar and the second is in a small theater.

The Spellbound drinks are interesting, some spectacular. I only had a few, one I didn't finish as it wasn't to my taste.

Darios Butcher Block: We attended this a well and YES, you can get vegetarian and YES, you can get well-done meat. The Aussie couple next to us had their meat well-done.
