Is Princess PLUS worth it for me personally?

With Premier you get photos included by the Princess photographers as part of the package.

yeah, I know, we had Premier on our last cruise, but why 25? They took 25 photos a day?

Professional photos

Unlimited

Unlimited digital images taken by our onboard photographers, plus three prints

To be completely honest, my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE takes better photos than the photographers' cameras on Enchanted. And we are not limited to 25 per day...

We definitely didn't come out ahead with the Premier (and wouldn't even have come out ahead with Plus), if we had to pay for the Premier package ourselves.

Personally, we'll only get Premier on the Sphere Class since the drinks are different than the other ships and there are many in the 16-20 range that we'll enjoy on the Sun and the Star.  When we're on the Enchanted for 21 days next year, the Plus package will suffice for us.

By the way, the three prints you got were what size?

This subject has come up many times and I am amazed at the number of people that list the alcohol drinks they consume in a day.

So my question I ask is:  Is this alcohol drink count on the ship the same as at you do at home.

It is no longer "PC" to call people Alcoholics, but "AUD" - alcohol use disorder.

One drink a day is considered moderate.

heavy drinker is 4 or more drinks in a WEEK

and here we have people drinking 4 or more for the 7 day cruise - 28 drinks in one week

since I don't drink at home, why would I purchase a package that cost more than just purchasing one coffee per day, and paying for my gratuities upfront.  - less than $20 per day

As with anything, Do the math, do you need any of the stuff that comes with the packages, or will you indulge because you paid all that money for it.   I don't need the wifi, the ocean ready, the room service, the photos, the drinks, etc.  If you are cruising for those items, then get the package.

I know I am in the minority here, but really people do you want it, do you need it, can you afford it.  Only you can make that decision.

ok, let the "beat me up" begin

We don't drink at home.  We do however drink while we're on vacation, ever since they came out with drink packages over 10 years ago on Celebrity.

The Plus package in my opinion is the best value at sea.  After factoring out the 16 for gratuities, that leaves you with 44.  Even if WiFi, non alcoholic drinks and all of the other peripherals included in the package were not important and considered gravy, all you need to do is drink three $15.00 drinks to be ahead in the package.  Obviously though we will take advantage of many of the gravy aspects of the package.

I personally could care less if 4 drinks over the course of a week is considered heavy by someone.  When I cruise on Princess, 4 drinks would be considered a slow day only because I had hit double digits the previous day.  Over the course of a 14 day cruise, hitting 100 drinks is doable at 7.2 per day.  If this is considered heavy by some people, I could care less.  Some people can average 11 a day and hit 150 over the course of a 14 day cruise.  As usual it all comes down to perspective.  Edit...Everyone has their own vice, some like to gamble and earn free cruises, others like to chill with a drink in hand and relax.

“ could care less.”
Everyone has to decide for themselves if it is worth it, if their health matters ( currently praying for a friend with liver disease.)

Agree that Plus is a value for those having 3 $15 drinks a day.

I'm not beating you up but I don't think you have the classifications for moderate and heavy drinkers right according to:https://www.niaaa.nih.gov/alcohol-health/overview-alcohol-consumption/moderate-binge-drinking#:~:text=Heavy Alcohol Use%3A,or more drinks per week

Moderate drinking is: For men, 2 alcoholic drinks or less a day and For women, 1 drink or less a day for women.

Heavy drinking is: For men, consuming five or more drinks on any day or 15 or more per week and For women, consuming four or more on any day or 8 or more drinks per week.

Alcohol Use Disorder is inability to control the use of alcohol.

I don't drink alcohol at home at all but I do when I socialise.  On holiday I drink as much as I want because I'm on holiday!!!  Also I love Aperol Spritzers and you can't drink them alone as they require a bottle of prosecco to be opened! I'll am looking forward to having at least 2 a day. It might take me a few days to find a barman who makes them well.  But I also have at least a litre of sparkling or still mineral water a day.

DH doesn't drink what I consider much but on holiday he'll have at least a beer or two a day and a glass of wine or two with dinner.  He'll also have at least three espresso coffees a day and lots of water - more than me.

We have to have wifi and so for us the plus package is a fabulous deal.

Last cruise I only had mocktails and it would have still worked out cheaper on the plus package.

I had 75% of my liver removed 18 years ago, due to cancer. (not due to drinking), so I am not suppose to drink.  But my father was an alcoholic (now called AUD) and he died from alcohol abuse.

Like I said.  If you don't drink at home, why over drink on a cruise.  Makes no sense to me.

Like I said before, everyone has their vices.  I don't gamble at all, but you obviously do since you have had 13 comped cruises according to your signature.

Do I need to drink at home?  Yes, Coke Zero and unsweetened ice tea.  Do I need to drink while cruising during my retirement which I earned?  If I have a drink package which provides value, yes.  If I was paying individual prices like it was 15 years ago, then no, I would have alligator arms.  But things change and I for one appreciate the Plus package. And am looking forward to the Premier package when we cruise on the Sun and the Star because of their newly expanded drinks menu.

Hey Roxie

No beat up from me. I totally agree with you. I would personally rather use the spa or thermal room and keep my money for this. The only thing that attracts me is the WiFi (keep in touch with sick daughter) but I can pay for this ad hoc if I choose too.

I'm not a big drinker. On a cruise I may buy a beer for lunch & maybe a spirit before bed. I have come off cruises with a 0 bill before now 😂

I am on a tight income so would rather save for another cruise later on.

On saying that I can see the attraction for people & if this is the way they enjoy - hey ho

Each to it's own 😄

I don’t drink alcohol as much at home as when on a cruise but then I also don’t have a three course meal everyday, sit on a sun lounger, eat ice cream, go to a daily show, swim in a pool, bet in a casino, the list goes on. You’re on holiday so let your hair down, it won’t do you any harm!

I really don’t think any of us need this advice-“ let your hair down.”

No one needs to justify what they do nor convince the rest of us to do what you suggest.

done here.

I happen to mention drinking up to 15 drinks a day to my doctor at my last appt. he just laughed.

I'm not a health nut but their packages sure do encourage over consumption.

You really can't ask OTHER people whether something is worth it for YOU. Only you know whether your personal habits and circumstances (eg. are you Elite with a minibar and wifi discount already?) would make such an expensive money grab by the cruise line worth it for you. For us, the answer has consistently been, and continues to be, a solid "NO".

I think you missed the point of my post, it was not specifically about drinking alcoholic on holiday it was a more general comment on what I and others do on holiday that we may not necessarily do at home.

If the 15 drink maximum on Princess, Carnival and HAL encourage over consumption, what does that say about the drink packages on RCI, Celebrity, NCL and MSC which are unlimited?

The Plus package is the best value at sea for many people.  If you want to talk about a money grab, why is a mini suite over 1000 more per person for a 7 night cruise over an inside cabin?  If you factor out the gratuities, it's an extra 44 a day pp to have an inside cabin with Plus, versus an extra 100 a day pp to be in a mini suite with no package plus 18 for gratuities, unless you pull them.  I'll save the 148 per day between the two of us and enjoy the amenities of Plus.

We obviously have opposite opinions as to what constitutes a money grab.
