cruisemiluv28 Posted July 31 #1 Share Posted July 31 So I'm sailing with DH and DS 7 years old. I got the drink package for DH and myself and got the soda package for DS for 7 nights. I'm second guessing myself if I should cancel DS soda considering he'll be with us pretty much the whole time. Would I be able to order for him and myself at the same time? What would you do? weezal Posted July 31 #2 Share Posted July 31 no, you will not be able to order 2 soft drinks at once. besides, drink packages are not meant to be shared.
cyntil8ing Posted July 31 #3 Share Posted July 31 (edited) We have had Cheers for the adults and no package for our kids. We were charged for their sodas. We had a few instances in the dining room when we were not charged, but it was not the expectation. We expected to pay for them separately. We did not buy the soda package because they usually only had one per day, either at dinner or in the theater while watching a show. cruisemiluv28 Posted July 31 Author #4 Share Posted July 31 Thank you both. I'll keep it.
Rare 1025cruise Posted July 31 #5 Share Posted July 31 How much soda do you expect DS to drink? It might be more cost effective to pay as you go.
cruisemiluv28 Posted July 31 Author #6 Share Posted July 31 Maybe 3-4 per day. At home he has 1 every week. On vacations I let him live.
Mike45LC Posted July 31 #7 Share Posted July 31 The kid can drink the free lemonade and iced tea (available at the buffet), and can limit his soda intake.

Take your own soda with you and buy more in ports. That way you save money and he has something he actually likes.

We didn’t let our sons drink pop unless we ate out. When sodas started getting so expensive at restaurants, we stopped letting them have them. Instead, we allowed them to have them at home whenever they wanted, which they rarely took for some reason. Now they are older, living on their own and they don’t drink soda hardly at all. Our 20 year-old nephew has always been allowed soda and drinks it a lot now. His beautiful straight teeth, which my sister paid for braces, are now pretty much rotting out of his head. 😞
x lindsay x Posted August 1 #12 Share Posted August 1 I have never once had an issue ordering an alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink at one time with the drink package. It could be a beer and a bottle of water, or a beer and a coke zero. I have never been charged for the non-alcoholic item. Even with DD (also 7) right there with me ordering her evening Shirley Temple while DH and I order a cocktail.

Rare kctwinmommy Posted August 1 #15 Share Posted August 1 He can also order different juices with it. When our son was younger, he wasn't much of a soda drinker, but he would get some. He would also get pineapple juice that he loved, which wasn't available for free.
Rare ledges1 Posted August 1 #16 Share Posted August 1 You and DH can carry a 12 pack each of soft drinks. If a 7 year old drinks all of that, he will spend most of the time in the bathroom and miss the cruise.

Even if the sugar content is identical (and it's probably real close) - the lemonade doesn't have the phosphoric acid and carbonic acid that soda will. The lemonade likely has Vitamin C the soda doesn't also.

Here’s the lemonade: 100 calories and 25 grams of sugar per 8.5 oz. That’s about the same as you’d find in an equivalent serving of Coke. https://www.nestleprofessional.ca/nestle-vitality/nestle-vitality-concentrated-flavoured-lemonade-beverage-base-12-x-32-oz

We carry on a box of ten ginger ale mini-cans (7.5 ounce). We don’t drink many soft drinks, we aren’t willing to handle more than one box, and there has never been a problem with the mini-cans instead of 12 ounce. Well, yeah, I meant 12 oz max - in theory, 16 oz cans are not allowed. But folks have reported they bring them on all the time and no-one cares.
