@kazu, Jacqui, can you offer to pay rent for a month or so to whomever buys your current home to allow time for the ideal apartment to become ready?

I doubt it, Joy.  Most buying will want their children in school in this area.

And, to be honest, I don’t want to pay rent to two places.

I’ll wait and see what the closing dates are , when the my apartment will be ready and take it from there.

the problem is I told the realtor (as well as some who have looked at the house & asked) I was all set and could move early September.

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for the Daily Rich.  I'll celebrate birth control pills what a life changer that was for women.  I'll celebrate Pinot Noir day with a Littoral Hirsch that is an open bottle from last night.  Good quote from Old Blue Eyes. The Battle of Britain was one of the notable battles of WWII.  We have been to Callao/Lima.

Thanks for the cares and celebrations reports Vanessa.  Prayers for healing and less pain for Sandi's DS and DB.  Prayers for Chuck and Annie, Tana and Terry, Ann, Bonnie, Melissa and everyone else who are ailing or grieving.  Prayers for a smooth day of home showings and a perfect offer with a good closing date Jacqui.  Great photo of your church Graham.  Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own.

It is another rainy and windy morning here.  I am ready for some real sunshine, this system over Canada is not moving out like predicted.  A good day to clean the house.  Have a great Sunday.  Nancy

When Callao (Lima), Peru was first port of the day I was aboard Volendam cruising the Amazon River so didn’t post photos.  So I went back to find photos from our two South America cruises in 2012 and 2015 that visited that port.  The first trip was on Star Princess on March 7, 2012.  According to my photo book the ship was delayed for several hours that day due to fog, so they allowed the ship to stay longer in port by the same number of hours.

From my photos it appears we boarded a bus at the port and took a tour of Lima highlights. We saw this guy in the city but I hope he has a seat for that bicycle somewhere!

Next photo is of one of the many large, ornate buildings seen that day, the Archbishop’s Palace.

The Government Building, home of the President of Peru, located on the edge of the Plaza de Armas.

The yellow building is the Municipal Palace of Lima

The Cathedral of Lima.  All these buildings line the massive Plaza de Armas.

After driving around and around the city, we next went to the Parque del Amor in Miraflores.  There is a famous statue there called The Kiss or "El Beso".

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

There were plenty of people in the waves of the water below the Parque del Amor.  And though I didn’t take a photo I remember people paragliding from the cliff to the water below.

Three years and 2 days later on March 9, 2015 the Ruby Princess arrived in Callao.  This time DH was recovering from an allergic reaction to something he ate, no doubt a wild mushroom.  It had happened before.  So in the afternoon I took a Princess shuttle bus to a local mall.  I stuck around about an hour and went back.  Not very exciting.  Here’s a few pictures I took along the way.  I took no photos inside the mall, which was modern and big.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

I would not be happy to be a driver with these vehicles right on my bumper!

This may be the actual mall – Real Plaza Salaverry

You definitely should find something to do outside of Callao when there unless malls are your thing.

Nice photos Sandi.

We were in Lima on the Volendam Grand South America.  The drive into the city is long with traffic in both directions.  Our first day in Callao we took a HA tour to the Plaza de las Armas and for a dinner at Casa Aliaga, the oldest home in South America.  It was a fun time and a great way to meet people we would be with on our long cruise.

Good Morning! @Mr. Boston Happy Birthday.

A short one as we are getting ready for church. Enjoyed a grilled BBQ Chicken dinner last night with corn on the cob.

We were in Lima last January for the second time and will revisit next January on our South America cruise.

Enjoy your day and thanks for the featured reports and post. B.

Day 2 in Lima we went to three places on our extended HA tour.  Part one we went to Museo Larco in the suburbs of Lima.  It was packed to the rafters with Pre-Columbian pottery in the middle of beautiful gardens.  Almost all the pottery was gathered by one man.

Good morning, everyone!

We had some heavy rain overnight that woke me up once.  Fortunately, I was able to get back to sleep easily.  The sky looks like it is going to dump more on us, but the forecast is iffy.  Nothing on the agenda for today except to start packing.  I usually wait until the day before, but Wednesday is a busy day and Thursday we fly out.  I do want to get to the hardware store and get some mortar to fill in a couple places on the house.  No critters allowed while we're gone!

@Mr. Boston

@kazu Moving is such a pain!   I thought I was going to have to store my stuff and bunk in with relatives for a week or two when we moved, but fortunately all worked out.  It gets expensive when you have to store stuff and move it a second time.

@aliaschief The meme today made me laugh out loud.  We almost had the full house last week, but fortunately had the sewer line cleaned out in time.

Today's meal sounds yummy.  The first recipe is not what we think of when we think chicken salad.  Chicken Salad with Spicy Mayo Dressing

It sure looks good to me!  I'd grab a fork and dig in!

Here is what we think of as chicken salad.  Spicy Chicken Salad Sandwiches

This one adds in some ranch flavor to the mix.  You can use a low carb tortilla to make a wrap or a lettuce leaf to keep the grains out.   Sriracha Ranch Chicken Salad

Part two of our long Lima tour took us through the Miraflores District to a ruins right outside of the city.  Sandi's photos are from the top of the cliffs.  Her photo of close vehicles reminded me we had an accident on our tour when a little red cat tried to squeeze in between the bus and parked cars.  That was a 20 minute delay while they worked it out.  I can't recall the name of the ruins that continue to be excavated.  Right up against the ruins was a neighborhood of shacks and other homes built on top of the other. The guys with cart are trash pickup. The building with the pillars is an abandoned Catholic mission.

Happy Sunday. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports.

Rain expected today. Under a flood watch.

Need to go grocery shopping. My sister and I went out and did some shopping for my nephew's wedding next month. It was successful. We had lunch out as well. It has been a long time since we have done that due to our busy schedules. Today, nothing much planned.

Happy birthday to @Mr. Boston!

Thinking of all on the care list.

Celebrating with all who are celebrating.

Have a safe and healthy day.

The final part of our tour was a Paso Fino horse farm on the outskirts of Lima accompanied by a lovely lunch.  The Peruvian wines were very good.  This tour gave a lot of bang for the buck.

Good morning from another hot day in central Texas.  It is 78F and feels like 78F[ however, the predicted high is 101F.  Currently, there is a 3mph breeze from the south, but it will pick up to 7mph this afternoon with no rain in sight for the foreseeable future.  This morning I'm going to make a quick trip to the store, then stay inside the rest of the day.

Birth control pills were liberating for women when they were first introduced.  I'm not sure about delivery rider appreciation day, but will honor Pinot Noir day.

I like the Frank Sinatra quote.

No chicken salad today, but it is in our future this coming week.  Today I'm picking up a chicken to smoke in the smoker.  We've smoked turkeys but never chicken, so I have may fingers crossed.  We'll pass on the drink, but have enjoyed the wine many times.

We have been to Lima twice.  The first time was in 2001 when I was still using a film camera, and the second was on Ruby Princess in 2015 with Sandi @StLouisCruisers.

I'm glad Tennessee ratified the 19th amendment in 1920 giving women the vote.  The Battle of Britain in 1940 was a horrible but necessary battle to save Britain.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm sorry your apartment won't be ready in time, but with all the paper work and preparations the buyers will have to make to move, it seems unlikely they could be ready to to move by the first part of September.  That would give them less than two weeks once the offer is accepted.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, shortly after our Koningsdam cruise last winter, we got several emails about a special Effy cruise, but I didn't pay too much attention to it, since I wasn't interested in Effy jewelry.  Enjoyed your pictures of Lima.

@cunnorl  Charlene, I hope Ernesto doesn't mess up your cruise too much.  I'm surprised they gave you and your DH different times for the Mariner brunch.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm glad you are being spoiled, and hope you are getting a lot of rest.

@ottahand7  Nancy, thanks for you pictures from Lima.

@dfish  Debbie, the third recipe sounds similar to the one I use for chicken salad.  Older DD gave it to me when she worked in Kroger's deli in college.  They use a mixture of mayo and ranch dressing.  The last time I looked it up, Kroger had substituted yogurt for the ranch dressing, which seems bland to me.

We have been to Lima twice.  in 2001, on Ryndam, we took a taxi, along with two tablemates, to see the catacombs under the cathedral.  If you have never been to the catacombs they are interesting, but a little creepy.  I won't say any more about them so I won't ruin the first look for anyone.  Unfortunately, that was the last cruise where I still had a film camera.

In 2015, along with @StLouisCruisers Sandi and Dennis on Ruby Princess, we docked in Callao.  That day due to reports of high crime in Lima, we took the shuttle to Miraflores, a resort and beach area outside of Lima.  These are some of my pictures from our day in Miraflores.

This first group of pictures were taken from the shuttle on the way to Miraflores.  Thus is the Palacio Municipal de Miraflores.

For those of us who wanted to convert US dollars into Peruvian Nuevo Sol, the guide from the shuttle led us down the main street until she found the man she was seeking.  She explained that he was a money changer and would give us a good rate.  From what we knew of the exchange rate, we felt we got a fair deal.  From there, we walked down to the Indian Market to look at the native crafts.  The large market that was in the terminal in 2001 had closed by 2015.   Compared to a huge warehouse full of vendors, the Indian Market was small and a disappointment, but it was still interesting.  I think we bought two t-shirts.

Our drop off point was a hotel across from a large open air mall, Larcomar, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  It was a good place to sit and relax, get ice cream and a cold drink.

Since we didn't spend all our Nuevo Sol, and we knew that by the time returned to Peru, the currency would have changed again, we needed to find a way to spend what we had.  There was a casino next to the hotel pick up point, and we figured we would have some fun while getting rid of the money.  Wouldn't you know it, that was the day the slot machines were hot, and I kept winning.  Finally, we switched machines and made our donation to the slot gods.
