No show

If someone can not make the trip they have no travel insurance ( even if they did it would not be a reason to cancel) and they are a no show. Not on any offer just the 1st person in the room,  Am I right that all they will get back is the port feeds and taxes, prepaid gratuities. Should the 2nd person in the room just show up, At what point do we tell someone that he is not going to be on the ship?

I’m sorry, but I don’t have your answer. I just wanted to say that Princess does have insurance that covers cancel for any reason.

Was this a Casino booking? Who booked the cruise?

It was over the phone no casino offer. 1st time on Princess

You ARE able to substitute a completely different person to take the place of one of the original cruisers. The new person can't just show up... they do need to be cleared in advance.

Pretty sure that the primary (first person) *must* show up. I have no personal experience with this but if noinsurance I would think that the cruise would be forfeited.  IDK

It can be one of the first 2, it doesn't have to be the first person on the booking.

Are you SURE?

OP should ask a travel professional.

Yes, OP needs to ask but several years ago we had asked about this, and we were told that we could change one of our party, if needed. I’m not positive but I think there was a $50 fee that we needed to pay to do the name change.

Also depends on the port. Some country rules vary.  OP should speak to Princess if they booked directly online or call in to the cruise vacation planner desk CVP and ask for one.

1 (800) 901-1172

Pick the prompt, that you forgot the extension.  Ask for help.

This could be a difficult task for a regular agent, as they are not all trained very well.  JMO

We don’t even know if the OP has a replacement person.  Maybe not.

If not, a CVP can answer your question, if the person going, should just show up.

Let us know what they say.

I am curious - when did princess change insurance coverage to cancel for any reason?  Several years ago my husband had to cancel a cruise due to business and was informed it was not covered.  Fortunately a friend came instead and fortunately his company reimbursed for having to cancel.

A very long time. Though you get cruise credit (a % depending on what level you bought) as opposed to money.

You can do a name change for a nonminal fee up until a few days before the cruise.

Called princess a few days ago and they said because they were sailing on the 8 of Sept it would be a cancel and rebook.

You can change 1 person's name up until a few days before on the cruise fare. I would call again and ask for a supervisor. One person has to stay on the booking. I don't think this applies to air.

You can't change both names.

They sell two levels of insurance, regular and platinum. You have to have platinum to get the cancel for any reason coverage. If you're platinum or elite loyalty level, you get upgraded to the higher plan for the same cost as the lower one.

Unless you are on a cruise fare that restricts that PVP upgrade to Platinum automatically.

They evidently, do not know what a name change is.  SMH

Call back or call and get a cruise vacation planner and tell them you want to do a name change.  (info on my previous post to you)

Ask what is the fee for a name change?  I’ve heard $50 and $100 name change fee.  I’ve never done that personally, so IDK.

Regular gets 75% cruise credit for "cancel for any reason". Platinum gets 100% cruise credit.

Wow! You're right about that. I could have sworn that it wasn't like that in the past. Did they change it or is this further evidence that I'm nuts? 😂

It’s been like that for quite a while.

After FP, CFAR ( PCL website)

Cancel for any Reason1

Cancellation Fee Waiver1 (Non-insurance features provided by Princess Cruises)
Life is unpredictable… but you can rely on Princess Vacation Protection. If you need to cancel for specified reasons outlined in the Cancellation Fee Waiver section of the plan, you’ll receive a refund of your cancellation fees. If you need to cancel for any reason not listed in the plan, under the “Any Reason” Cancellation Enhancement feature, you’ll receive 75% of the cancellation fee amount in the form of future cruise credits under our Standard plan and 100% under the Platinum plan.

IDK about the I’m Nuts part!  😝

It has always been that way since "cancel for any reason" has existed.

Here is what I copied from my Passage Contract for my cruise this month. May not be helpful!

Name changes require the prior approval of Carrier and may not always be possible.  Name changes and departure date changes are considered reservation cancellations and are subject to cancellation fees

You did not ask us if a substitute passenger wants to take the no shows place.

So, to answer your post, I suggest calling them back and ask for clarification .

good luck!

Yet another reason to have a GOOD travel agent that you have a relationship with.  Your TA will of course lose their booking on that cruise but will support you because of future bookings that they will get from you.
