Carnival Secrets they usually don't tell you about

Not sure if its been mentioned or not..but you can get nutrition bars in the gym. They normally have 100's of them.

I always bring my own because I like Clif bars, but for those that want to nibble on something for shore excursions, this might just do the trick, for a nice snack. On my last cruise they had Pria Powerbars.

The Carnival Website also has the pdf's to download the instructions for animal folding. You would follow the stateroom tour and then they ask you to guess which animal is in the different room tours and when you get the answer correct they give you a link to download the pdf. Hope that helps.

:)

I can't seem to find this. I went to virtual tours, staterooms. What am I doing wrong? I watched Samantha Brown on one of her cruises and can't for the life of me figure out that monkey towel fold.

It's not on the Carnival site (not even from Carnival), but Cheryl has these pages from Royal Caribbean scanned on here website (the Monkey is at the very end):

This is a good site for many things, or can refer you to sites that have things you want to know.

You have to either hover your mouse over, or click the towel animal on the bed. It will ask you a 'What's This Animal' quiz, then if you are correct you have the option of downloading the PDF. HTH

Don't know if this was posted. If you are going to buy a soda card, wait until you are out of port because if you buy it in port they charge sales tax on the total cost of the card, once you're sailing no sales tax cause no jurisdiction.

In the casino, they'll give you a lanyard, as well as punch a hole in your S&S card for you.

It's actually a "coiled" lanyard kind of like the old telephones. This way you can hook it to your belt, purse or whatever. The idea is if you're playing the machines you can insert it in before you put your money in. If you do walk away the card will SNAP out of the machines and give you this GIANT welt on your butt :) I'm just kidding about the welt thing but it keeps you from leaving your card in the machine when you walk away.

My sister wears a neck lanyard, so we go and ask to have a hole punched in her card too. Much faster to open the door if you just have to lean forward, than to have to unzip a pouch and pull it out of something.

Lots of people asked where she got her lanyard.

I dont know if this is true or not- I have purchased soda cards and were never charged a tax-- I was charged a 15% gratuity on top of the price of the card--- but never a tax.

And even if it was taxed-- you saved less then 3 bucks-- doesnt seem like its worth it to wait a few hours-- guess it depends on when you get onboard. We have always been onboard by noon- so waiting until 5-6pm when you sail- plus waiting to get into international waters-- just dont seem like its worth the wait.

:D I am really enjoying the info on this thread. I hope that I can read it all in the next few days. I am a first time cruiser going on the Glory on 9/13/08. I appreciate the effort everyone has put into posting all of this.

LOL I learned this too late and i put it in my review

Also if you wait a day, the price drops...

I paid $59 for an 8 day cruise.. $48 soda card/$7.20 gratuity and $4.02 NYC tax...

If I had waited one day $42 for the card $6.30 gratuity- no tax -and it would have cost $48.30!

Live and learn

I can keep up with my S&S card better with the hole punched and the coiled thing ( whatever its called ).:o You can get a coiled thing in the casino.

Lanyard LOL

and they are free!

Just keep your S&S card away from your cell phone and anything magnetic

I dont know how I did it, but my card was erased and I could not get in my cabin!

an 11.00 tax on two cards? seems too much. seems you were also charged the tax on the gratuity- the person who sold ou the card had no idea what he/she was doing.

if you still have that receipt I would be on the phone with carnival and asking why.

I would be too except it looks like there was a lack of $4 worth of tax and some type of pro-rated amount because they went thirsty for a day lol.

Hi Serene!

No.. On day one while still docked in NYC the card was $48, $7.20 Gratuity and $4.02 NYC sales tax= $59.22 total

On day two the card would have been $42 and $6.30 Gratuity = $48.30 Total

Difference= $10.82

I have the receipt right here..

Hi CMNIATL,

I saw your post on our roll call for 09/13/2008 on the Glory. I hope to meet you and all the other posters for our roll call.

This is the best place for reviews/opinions! And it seems that there are also some great folks here as well.

We sail on the Legend on 08/17. Anybody else here going at that time? This will be our first cruise and we are very excited and a bit nervous!

We're Newbies! Very Excited Newbies!!<BR>countdown.cgi?trgb=000000&srgb=00ff00&prgb=111111&cdt=2008;08;17;16;00;00&timezone=GMT-0500

I am sure there are certainly others going;) but there are only two posts on your Roll Call. I don't think there are two Roll Calls going for the same sailing.

You having a magnetic personality ..must have been the cause...;)

On a only a few ships I have cruised on has that happened and we bring our own NJ ..well NY Jets Lanyards aboard..

On your Tax in NYC... yes having a large tax with no way of rebate.. We do with the VATS in the UK as well Canada...

A lesson learned in taxation aboard a docked vessel now...

I thought on other CCL :NYSE Lines.... you could purchase the Cards prior on the TOLL FREE Landline from Guest Services and such((?))

Maybe inquire on this for your next voyage..

Lanyard LOL

and they are free!

Just keep your S&S card away from your cell phone and anything magnetic

wow-- that really sucks and one that should be remedied. Soda cards are extremly expensive on carnival and selling each one for 4.02 more is just too wrong. This might be a NY thing- I have cruised from Florida and not charged a tax-- even with Princess last February from FLL - and no sales tax

I'm halfway throught the posts. Guess I'm just a glutton for punishment, but I will read them all. What is so interesting is that so many who asked questions in the beginning have now probably taken several cruises. Can't believe this thread has lasted so long. Good job guys.:) :) :)
