The Adagio Lounge is the only true "piano bar" in the fleet. If the right pianst is on board...it is the best place Princess has to offer IMHO!!!:D The Ocean View rooms are spacious!! My only trivial complaint is that on balcony rooms, the doors all seem to creak!! (And we've been in many of them!).

 

The dinning room service is sublime, and they still do the traditional table-side preparation of deserts!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!! 42 days left for us to wait for our own farewell cruise

Glad to read so many of the positive comments on the Regal Princess. We are on the LA to Sydney cruise & I had heard rumors that Princess was not maintaining this ship as well due to its change in status at the end of that cruise. I would hate to be on a ship for 31days that wasn't in tip top shape. Smaller is fine, but poor maintenance is not. Happy cruising! Chicago Babe:)

Everybody down here is getting excited about the Regal coming Down Under. I believe they are keeping everything as is, except the kids club is going where the theatre is, and the current kids club is becoming the Teen Lounge. Also the Casino is being moved to where the Stage door currently is and the dome is turned into a Bar/Lounge Area.

I don't know whether she will fit into the current market here in Oz. The current market is along the Carnival market, the Young, party type who stay up till all hours.:rolleyes:

This is a BIG step up for Australian cruising.;)

PS Also forgot, they are adding another 500 berths!!:eek:

We'll be on her for 20 days the end of May, I'll report back as to how she is holding up....my belief is she'll be just as good as she's always been!!

They are just adding 3rd and 4th berths in the exisitng cabins. I believe there will be no additions to cater for the extra 500 people.:eek:

Down here, it is marketed as 4-share and NOT Twin share, hence the extra berths being installed.:rolleyes:

I think she arrives into Sydney on the 1st of October. The Pacific Dawn's (new name) first cruise has already been cancelled. At this stage the first cruise is departing Sydney on the 9th of November, though there is some doubt about this cruise as well.:rolleyes:

I sailed on the Regal in March from Lima to San Juan. I loved the intimate atmosphere. Being a smaller ship you got a chance to know the other passengers and the crew a lot better.

 

I think Sammy Goldstein will be in the Adagio lounge for your sailing, he was wonderful.

 

Another favorite spot was the swim up bar, a great place to get a cool drink and cool off.

Exactly. Here's one of my favorite spots on the ship: the aft area on Deck 10 (all of the aft areas are open deck so there's lots to choose from.) This was taken mid-afternoon -- look at all the available loungers!

 

That looks great. Do they put loungers on Caribe and Dolphin too? I like to be a bit low in the ship and wondered if there would be loungers on those decks.

 

Also does anyone know if there are many tables for two in the dining room? I am thinking that's what I'd like to do this time.

 

Where do people take a promenade i.e walk a mile for exercise?

The casino - Does it have Texas hold 'em poker, ring game or tournament? fun 21?

 

We like to bring wine onboard to have in the dining room. Can you bring a case on in San Pedro? do they seem to look at how many bottles you have? any experience with the corkage fee in the dining room, on some cruises we have the corkage fee charged each night and others sometimes it gets forgotten:) ?

We've been three times on Regal Princess, and think she is a fine ship.

 

In immoderate seas (rough), she handles/rides very well - I think much better than the much larger Grand class.

 

As noted in several other posts, her cabins are larger than the Princess norm - she was designed for Sitmar Lines.

For all those people down under who want the Regal to remain the same. SORRY --- they are going to make some serious changes to the ship. The dome will be a disco and the disco will become the new casino. Reason -- Azzies and Brits drink much much more beer than do Americans and they gamble less. ( so we were told on our April PC trip on the Regal )

 

Next the pools will be replaced and the Waves bar will be moved aft of the two new pools. I hope they keep a swim up bar. In hot weather its the place to be.

 

There was also a rumor that they were adding cabins to increase capacity but I doubt this.

 

Currently the Regal is in fine shape and whoever sails on her will enjoy the cruise.

 

PS --- say hello to Stoyan and Franco at the Waves bar. They were great and made the cruise very enjoyable.

I fear the Regal will lose some of her dignity on becoming Pacific Dawn with the changes. It will be a problem feeding and entertaining those extra 500. Good to hear she is still in good order. She arrives Sydney on Tuesday 2 October 2007. Once here she will be out of action for some 6 weeks getting the re-fit, paint job and extra beds going in. I believe the work is being done in Newcastle, 150 miles north of Sydney and Brisbane which is 600 miles north of Sydney.

And yes, we will be on board and the trip is getting closer.!!!!:cool:

they have a few tables for 2...but mostly they are kept for people who need them (we were seated by a couple who one of them had hearing problems and being at a large table was difficult for them. they said they needed a doctors note to get the table---that was in 2004)

There is a walking/ jogging tract on the top deck. Joggers go in one directions/ walkers in another.

yes there are lounge chairs on the promonade deck.

I know I will miss the Regal!

We have sailed on the Regal Princess twice and are booked on the 5/28 Hawaii/Midway Island cruise. As others have said, it is an older and smaller ship without some of the features of the newer Princess ships.

 

The smaller capacity is a plus. We also like the layout of the decks and there are laundry facilities (great for a longer trip). Because it is a smaller ship, its itineraries have been more interesting - e.g., Panama Canal, Australia/New Zealand, etc.

 

There are some definite "negatives" (depending upon your perspective): no MUTs (movies under the stars - great for those nights at sea), limited workout facilities, and limited dining options (the buffet is converted to a bistro at night and there is a pizzeria but there are no specialty restaurants) and weak buffet food and layout.

 

Happy cruzer - Princess usually does not have a lot of tables for two in the dining room. The bistro (a section of the buffet open at night) offers "sit down" table for two dining in the evenings. As for wine carried on board, we have never had a problem with Princess in the past. We plan on bringing wine on in San Pedro and restocking at a port in Hawaii.

I got off the Regal April 28th. Loved her! (liked her the first time, loved her the second)

The deck chairs (lounge) are in all the aft outdoor areas (My favorite to read a good book and listen to the ocean)

She was in great shape.

Our airconditioner broke...was fixed in hours (once we figure out that what it was)

Things to note about the RT to Hawaii (I noted that the OP says it's their first cruise):

1. Bring motion sickness meds (try out first at home to make sure you don't have a reaction). Much of the time, this cruise involves rough seas.

2. The casino isn't open from the time you reach your first port until after you leave your last Hawaiian port. We usually don't hit the casinos, but this may bother some.

3. There are plenty of activities scheduled for sea days.

Besides, Regal Princess handles rough seas better than Island Princess - so unless one is prone to motion sickness, I wouldn't worry.
