Question on Ocean Liners Restaurant

If we go on a casual night, can we go to Ocean Liners Restaurant on the Constellation in casual attire?

 

Is this the only specialty restaurant, or is there a steak house?

Ocean Liners follows the daily dress code for dinner but many diners do dress less casually, even on casual night. There is no steak house on the ship.

No...The dress code for Ocean Liners is Informal for both Informal and Casual nights.

 

Ocean Liners is the only full service specialty restaurant on Constellation. There is a buffet in the aqua spa that is managed by the same crew as Ocean Liners.

However, we often go to the specialty restaurant on casual nights and I'd say the average person in the restaurant is a bit dressier than casual.

Thank you for letting me know about the 2007 change in dress code. I was going by what existed during the two times we sailed on Constellation in 2006

Code or not, I'd feel uncomfortable dining there in casual attire. The food and ambiance just don't relate to it, IMO.

 

My husband prefers to wear his tux or at least a suit, and I wear a cocktail dress or gown when we dine there.

I would say you would feel far MORE out of place in casual dress, so go enjoy your dresses! Very bad ettiquette no matter what the "rules" say.

The waiting staff wear white tie, and the whole ambience most certainly dictates a more formal dress.

I love the "escort" to the powder room...:D

On are last cruise when we made our reservations for

specialty dining we were told that men were to wear jackets. We were surprised because we were never told that before enough thought my husband did wear one any way.

The dress code for the specialty restaurants requires men to wear a jacket. You will receive a card in your cabin confirming your reservation. The card also specifies the required attire to dine in the restaurant. I am confused about the information that is given below in other postings. I have been on the Constellation twice and Century (Nov 2007), eating in the speciality restaurants the majority of the cruise. Almost everyone conforms to the dress code. The exception would be my sister and her fiance. Even after explaining many times that the dress code for the ship, whether it is informal or casual that night does not mean you can show up that way in the special restaurant. They gave my sister's fiance a jacket to put on the back of his chair. My sister was wearing casual pants and a polo shirt. They had no idea what to do with her. Luckily, we were not eating with then that night and we arriving just as they were finishing their meal. If you don't want to dress up then you should bypass the special restaurant. I am confused by the information that you dress according to the code that night on the ship. It was definitely not that way in November 2007. Perhaps the Constellation Ocean Liners has a less strict dress code now. I will check on this when I am back on Century in March.

We just got off Constellation from the Jan 7 cruise and for an absolute fact, you CAN dine in Ocean Liners in casual clothing. We dined there four nights of our 11 night cruise, three of them on casual nights, and the code was not informal on casual night. As a matter of fact, a group of 6 came in on casual night and the men were in dockers and collared shirts and the women in capri pants. There was always at least one couple where the man was not wearing a jacket on the casual nights. Personally, we always dress up for the alternate restaurants as the ambience dictates at least informal clothing.

I just spoke to my 26 year old son, who, with his 22 year old brother are accompanying their grandfather on the Millennium this Sunday, and he said he intends to wear his sport jacket and tie at the Normandy regardless if it is casual night or not, because he said it's feels good to be dressed for such a good meal in such a nice place. Makes the occasion feel special. That's my boy!
