Rare Lois R Posted April 29, 2008 #26 Share Posted April 29, 2008 Hi There, I just came back from a stressful day at work and was so happy to read all of the above posts as I am sailing on the Mercury for the first time this July to Alaska and am so excited. After having read very mixed reviews, I was getting a bit ansy, but feel better now and can't wait. :D Thanks all. Hi Bugsy, I have a good friend who is on your sailing and it will be his 8th or 9th time aboard Mercury:) Hope you have a fantastic time. I appreciate the reassurance - I think I know who your friend is as there is a Roll Call for our sailing and he also assured me that I wouldn't be dissapointed. It's so great to have this community to share thoughts with. :D
ekeberg Posted April 30, 2008 Author #28 Share Posted April 30, 2008 Putterdude, There are still some very dirty windows in the Navigators Club. I think we counted 12 that needed to be replaced. Lynn

Hebe Posted April 30, 2008 #30 Share Posted April 30, 2008 Lois -- not sure if Sonia will still on in Sept. Yes -- Damien did leave the ship at the end of March in SF Ketehut -- Cigar smoking is only allowed outside on the aft area of deck 11.
Iggipolka Posted April 30, 2008 #31 Share Posted April 30, 2008 We are on the Mercury right now (docked in Astoria) and absolutely love the ship! She's in beautiful condition, the crew is overwhelmingly friendly, the spa is great and the food is fantastic. I really don't have a single negative thing to say about the ship. I wouldn't hesitate to book her again in a heart beat. :D

Bklynbill Posted May 17, 2008 #33 Share Posted May 17, 2008 We'll be on Mercury the first of next year for the Panama Canal transit, L.A. to Ft. Lauderdale. First cruise on Celebrity. We are on the Sky deck in cabin 1226. All your comments have us looking forward to our trip on the Mercury. Since it's always more interesting to give & get information here rather then contacting Celebrity, I'm hoping someone has the answers to a couple of questions. (1) Is there WiFi, or any internet connection, provided in Sky Suites? (2) The balcony looks big, but wondering about the long, HIGH sidewalls on either side of it. Is it like being in a tunnel? (3) You mentioned Michaels does not allow cigars anymore. Is there any bar, or any area at all, where one can have a drink and a cigar? Hello Ketelhut! I've been on the Mercury twice, once when she was really young and just last fall for a PNW 4 nighter in your exact same cabin. I will be repeating the PNW 4 nighter with family this year in just an outside cabin. The balcony is fabulous, especially on the panama canal. No worries about tunnel vision. The best part of the cabin is that the bed faces the window. It's such a rarity, we really enjoyed it. We felt that the tub area on this cabin is where the ship shows her age. If you were thinking about long relaxing soaks, you might get disappointed. Still, a great cabin if you feel you get it at a good price. It is unfortunately true that the aft section of deck 11 is the only spot for a cigar (bring your own drink). Technically cigar hours don't start till 8pm. On my last voyage they were stacking chairs and tables out there at 7:45 all nights but the first (it was in gorgeous weather, it really made no sense except to try and keep us from smoking cigars). Hopefully in Panama they keep the area open. It really is a shame how X treats cigar smokers. I'm not asking for multiple spots to fire a stogie, just one spot where I can be treated like a passenger/customer (perhaps at more flexible hours than 8pm-mid). flashdog_1 Posted May 17, 2008 #34 Share Posted May 17, 2008 I really miss being waited on and I miss those shrimp cocktails. Were they the regular size shrimp or the little bitty ones I've heard ships are serving now? Thanks
drk Posted May 17, 2008 #35 Share Posted May 17, 2008 We fell in love with crusing on the Mercury in 2003. 25 cruises on many lines but we have 2 booked on Mercury so we can enjoy her twice before she leaves the fleet. R/T to Hawaii 2/28/09 and 11 day caribbean 2/1/10. Don't usually book so far in advance but the rates for '10 were excellent. We will miss her and Galaxy. trustee55 Posted May 18, 2008 #37 Share Posted May 18, 2008 Hi! We are booked on the October 13 Mercury Wine Cruise from Vancouver to San Diego, but didn't get the cruiseline airfare. Would someone please post the names of some consolidators other than Travelocity where affordable airfare can be found? flashdog_1 Posted May 19, 2008 #38 Share Posted May 19, 2008 Just curious, have they fixed the frosted windows up in the Navigators Lounge yet? Looking at deck plans. Is this the same area called navigator's club forward of the teenager room on sky deck? Must be.
Rare hcat Posted May 19, 2008 #39 Share Posted May 19, 2008 She's one of my favorite. I just booked her for Jan 2010 for a chance to sail her one last time before she retires from the fleet. Is she defiinitely leaving? IMHO, they'd be losing their best ship!
Karynanne Posted May 19, 2008 #40 Share Posted May 19, 2008 Is she defiinitely leaving? IMHO, they'd be losing their best ship! We were on her in Feb/Mar. and yes, it's a done deal. We too love this ship, and hate to see it leave Celebrity. But corporate has a different vision for their product. They want all their ships to offer the same amenities to their passengers, and the Mercury and Galaxy did not fit into that plan. To retrofit both of the ships proves to be too expensive, to be cost effective.
Rare Lois R Posted May 19, 2008 #41 Share Posted May 19, 2008 Looking at deck plans. Is this the same area called navigator's club forward of the teenager room on sky deck? Must be. Navigator on Mercury, Statosphere on Galaxy, Hemisphere on Century.....during the day they are sort of lounging areas along with activities as well. In the evenings they turn into a disco. That would be the one and it is a lovely place to spend the day reading, watching the scenery pass by and just relaxing.
Putterdude Posted May 19, 2008 #43 Share Posted May 19, 2008 Is she defiinitely leaving? IMHO, they'd be losing their best ship! You keep hearing rumours but I am not aware that there has been a annoucement in that regard. She remains probably their most favourite ship and people are quite passionate about her.
