May 21 Voyager Reykjavik to UK---Group booking?

My wife and I are considering the May 21, 2009 cruise from Reykjavik to Southampton.

We noticed in a recent mailing from Regent that the cruise is listed as "Limited Space Available". This seems a little surprising, considering the dates and the itinerary.

We're not concerned that the ship would be full, experience tells us the ship can easily handle the full passenger load. However, we're curious that it might mean there is a large group booking? Once before, we were on a Voyager cruise which was nearly 3/4 filled with one group. We had an enjoyable time, but there were a few negatives as a result--lounges frequently closed for "private functions", shore excursions dominated by large groups of friends, some public areas over-crowded as large groups gathered, etc.

Anyone know if there is a large group booked on this cruise?

I know of a TA's escorted group on this cruise and the segment before it. But this is not a large group, probably about 40 or so. I doubt if that would be a problem, since they are all nice people and will probably be pretty independent of each other.

I understand your fear of a large group--this happened to us once on the Paul Gauguin and, although it did not impair our cruise, it was annoying for everybody else on board. We also had a smaller group on the first leg of that cruise, an escorted Vantage group, and they were very nice people and were no problem at all.

We are part of a TA's escorted group for the entire 23 days. It will be our first Regent cruise which we booked because of a great price and many new ports for us to enjoy. I believe that many others also booked this because of the slightly more favorable prices than Regents usual.

We do not expect the TA's group to be together as a group with the exception of a possible reception. We are not group travel people and can be found at a table for two wherever we go. Book and don't worry about groups.:)

We had looked at this cruise because of the good pricing and interesting, rather different, itinerary. We ended up settling on a different one because our son's HS graduation is the first day of the cruise, but I suspect a lot of people are attracted to it just because of these factors. I wouldn't worry. It just doesn't seem like the type of cruise for a large corporate bookiing.

I feel that you make a good choice by not booking Regent for your son's HS graduation. There will not be many young adults in your son's age group on board so early in the summer. He probably would not be comfortable with the majority of passengers being over 50. This particular cruise is of interest to many people. It's not surprising that it is full.

Funny thing is I don't think he would really mind being one of the only kids on board that much. On our Baltic cruise, he mainly hung around with us as, while there were a lot of kids in their early teens, there were few his age. He is used to being around a lot of adults and has traveled with us since he was little. But since the first day of the cruise is the same day as his graduation, this just wouldn't work.

So we are going to do the Norway cruise as a graduation present for him and a 50 birthday present for me. We plan to do a lot of hiking.
