What do you do with your wrap during dinner?

I want to wear a wrap on our next cruise. It's about 24" by 65". I'm a complete fashion dunce. I don't want to tie it on as I'm sure it will wrinkle horribly. So what do I do with it when it's time to eat? I can't just let it drape onto the floor. The servers will step on it. I can't put it on my lap. What if I drop food (a problem for me, a dexterity issue) and it misses the napkin? Where do I put it? Or should I just forget it and leave it at home???? Please educate me.

I'm not trying to sound snarky, but how about not wearing it to the dining room - and picking it up after dinner?

I gently fold my wrap and drape it over the back of my dining chair.

If you really need a wrap to keep warm while you're eating, I'd get something smaller that you can tie closed in front or wear a sweater over your shoulders.

If you are warm enough, then don't wear it while you eat and hang on the back of your chair as the earlier poster said she does. Sounds like its large size is pretty unmanageable for a cool restaurant.

Robin, I have exactly the same problem.

 

BTW, for other posters, all wraps these days are about that size.

 

I agree the answer is to fold it in half, and drape it over the back of the dining chair. Then hope I don't snag it when I pull my chair away form the table. (yeah....done it. :o)

 

On my last formal night, I knotted the #$@! thing, and decided not to worry about the wrinkles.

Exactly, fold it neatly and put it over the chair. If the chair back isn't square. Ask the maitre 'd.

Really---put it on your chair! You probably won't need it---the "climate" in the dining room isn't as "cold" as some make it to be!!! Eat, drink, and you'll be warm enough!

Thank you, all! I could NOT find this thread, and I knew it had posted. Imagine my surprise to find it here, instead of the FASHION board where I thought I'd posted it. :o I appreciate your opinions. It's a hand painted silk wrap. I don't want it for warmth, but thought it would be nice to wear on a formal night. Where else am I going to wear it???? Not here in the Desert West. Heh.

Exactly why I don't do wraps; I am apparently unable to manage them and spend half of my time getting one to stay on my shoulders, off the floor, from sliding under the chair, or tripping someone, etc. It's just too much of a nuisance for me. Especially if it's a slick, chiffon-like material.

 

If I'm afraid of getting cold--some dining rooms are cold, others not, I bring a fancy sweater or shrug so I don't have goosebumps. I can't eat dinner with a wrap on anyway.

 

If you do wear it to dinner--it sounds lovely--I'd fold it carefully and drape it over the chair back or behind you.

We adore our Bichon! He's the sweetest, most easy-going dog I've ever known. Three years ago my then-Senior-in-high-school daughter was going through a bout of clinical depression. (She actually swallowed a bottle of Advil in a suicide attempt.) Her therapist said she needed a puppy. (Part of the depression stemmed from losing our 13-year-old Maltese the fall previously and my refusal to get another dog--it just rips my heart out when they go, and I didn't think I could face that again.) So I did some research and found the Bichon was best suited to our needs. And, boy, was he! He loves EVERYONE. I believe he saved her life. He is our hero!

I wear a wrap every night around the ship, because I've found it's the easiest to put on & take off & put on & take off & put on & take off ... I'm sure you get the picture. When I'm at dinner, if I don't need it, I just slide it down and crisscross the "arms" across my lap (under the napkin) and I can just pull it up again when I need it. Same thing in the casino!

 

So far, I haven't dropped one on the floor or mistakenly used it to wipe my hands!

Putting it on the back of the chair -- will still wrinkle it.

How do you intend to get it onto the ship?? Suitcase?? It will get wrinkled that way as well.

Leave it at home if you don't want it wrinkled.
