Luggage restriction like airline?

Does cruising have luggage restriction like airline? We live in Southern California and our port is in Long Beach...no air for us...but does the cruise ship have luggage restriction?

Depends on the cruise line. Check out the line's FAQ page on-line. For most, no tight restrictions (i.e. 500 pound total limit as opposed to 50 pounds per suitcase like the airlines).

Generally, the only limit is that carryon luggage must be able to fit thru a scanner that is like the ones at airports. However, remember that your luggage will be in the cabin with you for the entire cruise.

Most cruise lines do not have restrictions on luggage. As others have mentioned I would highly recommend going to the cruise lines web site and usually under a question and answer section you can find that information. If it is not readily available, then just contact the cruise line by phone.

 

With that said, I would try not to overpack for the cruise as it just means more items to unpack and pack and depending on the cabin you sometimes have lmited closet space. Suitcases will fit under the beds for storage.

No--most lines will allow 200 lbs PER PERSON!!!! You are really only "restricted" if you have to fly to the port by the airline you'll be traveling. If you're lucky enough to drive, bring what you want--and more! the "having to fit thru the scanner" thing is only for "carry-on" luggage onto the ship. Bags you give to the porters for delivery to your room can be whatever you want, sizewise!

If it was me I would take it in the carry on just in case somehow it opens up in your regular luggage and gets a bunch of items wet.

Bottled water can go anywhere. But why bother...The ships make their own water by reverse osmosis. In most cases, it tastes great and is better quality than what you are buying. EM

NCL used to allow 200 lbs pp now they allow two 50 lb suitcases pp. though most of us agree there is no way in He-- that they can enforce that. and they would be foolish to try.

And the rest of us agree that whatever their restrictions they are far and above what anyone would need for a trip around the world, much less a regular cruise.
