aplmac, I love the pictures you post!! Keep 'em coming, it gets me excited about my vacation :) 4 weeks from today we'll have checked in and be exploring more of San Juan, wahoo!

 

Also, how do they determine dining rooms? We had the Atlantic dining room last time...I'd kind of like Pacific this time :p

Seems as if that's the economy these days.

 

I was sitting with no work to do because they'd made this decisions months ago. They were just waiting until the end of the month.

 

Had to work me like the proverbial dog during tax season with those 70 hours weeks, then toss me to the curb when they decided they could pay someone else less because they have less experience.

 

But thanks for the sympathy/empathy. :(

 

Now to update the resume and send it out, then I'll start working on my review.

Gosh I'm sorry to hear about that. The economy is picking up a bit, so hopefully something will pop up very soon for you. I hope you got some sort of severance package (and that it was considered a lay off and not a firing so you can collect unemployment). Good luck!

LOL -- yes, but that's not unheard of -- in fact that's pretty much the norm during tax season for some people.

Yes, we "professionals" don't receive overtime. Rather than the usual 2080 hours/year that someone who works a normal 40-hours-a-week job works, we're expected to work about 2300-2400 a year, so when you break that yearly salary down into an hourly, based on total hours, it isn't as good as it looks. Not to mention the stress of tax season.

 

Have started sending out resumes. I'm just really concerned since it took me months to find this past job, and I now have a mortgage and car loan that I didn't have in the past.

 

It just isn't supposed to be this way. I put myself through school as an older student; I was a single mother of a toddler at that time; I worked 20-30 hours a week all through school; I kept a 4.00 GPA until I was a senior; I passed the CPA exam on the first sitting (back then, you took it all at once, over a 2-day period) which is really difficult to do; I just paid off MY student loans in March while paying for 5 years of DD's undergraduate tuition.

 

And now I'm back just about to square one. Even if I find a job fairly quickly, I bet I'll have to take a substantial pay cut, just when I thought I'd finally be getting out from under so many obligations.

 

Oh well. That's life. I've been close to destitute in the past, but that's not what I had planned for this late in my working career.

 

ANYWAY, BACK ON TOPIC...

Sorry to hear about your job situation NC. I hope something comes along for you rather quickly. If you can find a scanner I would still love to see those capers from the Victory. I really enjoyed your review and will probably use your information when planning our excursions for next year. Can't wait!!

I don't remember them having one in 2005, but don't hold me to that. There's the "adults only" pool, which I put in quotes because even though it's adults only, there are still some children. Plus it's where the pizza is and two ice cream machines, so there will be kids running around in there either way (though I will say the lack of kids walking along the side of the pool splashing their feet is better :))

Hubby and I went on the Splendor in January, and loved the quiet of the Serenity deck. Was hoping for the same thing on the Victory. Not that it would deter us if they didn't have it...just an extra bonus.

No Serenity pool, but there is still the Adults Only Topless deck on the Victory!

 

My don't misses:

San Juan - Old San Juan

St. Thomas - Magen's Bay or Sapphire Beach

Dominica - Champagne Reef

St. Lucia - Anything that gets you to the Pitons (preferably by water)

Antigua - Runaway Bay

Barbados - Turtle Snorkel

St. Kitts - The views overlooking the South end

I see you made the boardwalk to the West of Rockley Beach, huh?

Glad you liked it. As I've said before, it's not popular with the locals fer nuthin! ;)

Your pics are nice but...they all show a big ole smudge at top right.

Looks like a fingerprint either on the lens (easy to clean)

or someone put a pawprint on the sensor (you may need professional help for that one)!

 

Have a look at the front glass of the camera's lens to see if anything's there.

If not, carry it to a camera place(along with some photos to show them the problem)

and see what they say!

this thread was started on may 4, 2009 and my wedding was may 4, 2002, and our honeymoon was on the victory (starting on the 5th) so I will always have a special place for her in my heart. My wife and I want to do a southern carribean cruise; so if victory is still doing this itinerary for our tenth anniversary it would be great.

Looked at the lense, nothing there, although the spot does still show up on the digital screen. Camera did get wet because it was sitting too close to the sweaty ice bucket on the ship. :(

Awsome! We were looking at a 14 day Celebrity cruise from San Juan over Christmas and New Year with only 3 sea days! It's on sale on several sites for $1999pp for a balcony. Plus I haven't sailed Celebrity yet. I want to sail on [b]all[/b] the major cruiselines at some point. Carnival is still my favorite so far but I really liked Disney too.
