The stinging mechanisms in most invertebrate marine organisms
utilise a proteinic acid to do the actual stinging.
That's why it stings and burns. Acid!

So what we need is an anti-acid. Stupid as it sounds, meat tenderizer works very well.
Why meat tenderizer ? It's an anti-protein, isn't it..
- it breaks down the cell structure of the meat, rendering it softer

In the islands, we use green papaya as a local meat tenderizer
but you're not likely to have Green Pawpaw on you, I know.

A bit more 21st. Century would be to take anti-histamine tablets a.s.a.p.
a remedy we use for centipede bites, here on the island (that clever tip from my Doctor-dau.)
since stings activate histamines in the body.

Today's useless facts, but just in case you have these things along with you..

Wow. That looks like it really hurts!! (and I have been stung by enough jellyfish to know).

Two things I never go on vacation without: Topical Benadril, Liquid Band Aid.

I guess I have been lucky, I have never even seen a jelly fish in the Caribbean. I thought they were all right here in Virginia Beach and the Outter Banks, NC.
NCTribeFan- thank you so much for your hard work and invaluable information. These boards are truely amazing.

I have excursions planned in every port and have never missed an excursion due to watching a movie the night before. I just prefer a movie over a show in one of the theatres. Reminds me of the good ole drive-in movie days. To each his own.

Two weeks from now I will be in Dominica :D
Well, we didn't do any shows, either!

Honestly, about halfway into the cruise, I mentioned to DD that we hadn't even seen half the ship, let alone DONE anything (other than eat, sleep, visit the casino for brief visits, and wander through the shops on the way back to the cabin).

I'm not a late-night person, anyway, but do normally stay up a bit later on cruises.

Not this one! Guess I'm just old. ;)

Must find a job, because I absolutely do NOT want to have to cancel my Miracle cruise in December. That will be my "lots of relaxation and 4 Fun Days at Sea" cruise.

 I have two questions about the dining room which I hope someone will be able to answer.

1. We would like to eat breakfast at least once in the dining room--as we never did get around to doing that on our last cruise. For those of you that had breakfast in the dining room approx. how long does it take from the time you are served to the time you are finished eating? I would like to figure out how much time to allow and still make it ashore to catch our excursions on time. On our last cruise we only ate breakfast on the Lido Deck--that was a quick way to get breakfast--especially if you are in a hurry to get to your excursion on time!

2. We are assigned the late seating (8:15) for dinner. Does anyone know what dining room we would be assigned too?

Thank you for your help!

The day we ate in the dining room for breakfast it took about 1/2 hr. I'm sure it all depends on how many people are there too.

We had late dining and was in the Pacific (aft) dining room. I don't know how they decide which dining room you will be in.

As much as I LOVE eating breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room, we only ate there once, and that was for dinner. I just found that we were way too busy with this itenerary to do all of the traditional ship stuff.

We had 8:00 am shore excursions booked everyday and were way too tired when we got back to the ship to be on a schedule for the rest of the evening.

We didn't eat dinner in the dining room, we didn't go to shows, we didn't stay up late dancing, we didn't eat breakfast in the dining room, we didn't even look at the Carnival Capers (I even forgot to see what time we had to be back on board a couple of times!).... we just enjoyed the heck out of every island! :D

I always read these type of things in the reviews and thought to myself, "well that won't be me....", but it was.

After 14 weeks at sea, I thought I had this cruise thing all figured out. Don't be suprised if you don't do things exactly the way you originally planned on this one. ;)

so if you need to get going before that, Lido might be the best option.

if you have a cabin far forward like we did(6207,on the bow!)
it seems you get the midships Dining Room named Atlantic.
We did.

The cruise before, when we were in 6431(considerably aft) we got Pacific, at the stern of the ship.

I'm guessing it has to do with where your cabin is located.

Interesting observation aplmac. Our room is far forward--so if the dining room is assigned according to where your cabin is located, we could get the midship Atlantic dining room. Anyone else notice this trend too?

Thank you DOTTE for the information on how long it took you to eat breakfast in the dining room. It looks like the dining room service for breakfast moves fairly quickly. Our tour in Dominica doesn't depart until 10:30--so we are hoping that we could make it to the dining room for breakfast on this day!

That could be true what alpmac said, we had an aft cabin so we were assigned the aft dining room?? Makes sense I guess.

We are leaving in 29 days on the Victory - :D I am looking at excursions at each port - or at least "don't miss" spots for each. Does anyone have any recommendations??

Go to the Ports of Call board for each port.

There will be lots of info about each port there.

7 days to go for me. You could say I am "on deck." :D

The ports of call section is indeed filled with invaluable info. I am not sure what interests you, but based upon what I have read these are popular tours and ones I have actually done:

St. Lucia- Cosol's Tour

Barbados- Silver Moon Catamaran snorkle with the turtles (there are a few companies that do this tour

St. Thomas-Airforce 1 (Papa Bear)- island tour and Coki Beach (you actually get your choice of beach)

Antigua- Eli's Circumnav Tour (they also have an Eco Tour which is popular)

Dominica- Bumping Tour

All of these you will find in the ports of call section and if you do a google or yahoo search, you should find their actually websites.

Happy Cruising

Hi everyone, I will be sailing on the Victory in April and getting married in St Thomas! This is my 5th cruise and my fiance's first. I tend to get sea sick sometimes and was wondering how bad the motion on the boat really is. I'm a little nervous now and don't want to spend my honeymoon sick:( Any insight would be appreciated.

Everyones pictures are great by the way!!!

As has already been suggested, do some reading on the POC boards.

I read on the boards for HOURS, as well as checking out the vendor websites, and figuring out what sort of budget I would have to use for excursions before I finally decided what I wanted to do (and I ended up changing our tour in Barbados due to additional reviews on that board).

My review is linked elsewhere in the thread and includes thorough reviews of the tours. We did all independent island tours. All included a beach stop except Dominica. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend all six tour operators. Good, interesting island tours with pleasant, knowledgable drivers/guides.

But it all depends on what YOU want to do. I wanted to explore the islands, as they were all new to me except St Thomas.

I have been on the Southern Itenerary a few times and Granted weather can change but in my experience it has been the smoothest sailing I have ever had each time.

April will be perfect,

I be sailing Southern again the moth before you.

Congratulations and have a great cruise!!:)

Thanks all for the hints on the excursions and must see places. I wish I had lots of time to read the POC boards, have glanced at them - a lot of good information to try and take in. I appreciate your quick lists of your favorites!

We'll be on Silver Moon exactly a week after you :) Have a great time!! My MIL and FIL have done this and recommended it to us, so we're hoping it'll be nice and relaxing :) After Dominica, and our crazy adventurous day with Bumpiing Tours, we'll need the relaxation I think :)

I would recommend ginger pills and start taking them the day before and continue each day of the cruise. Also, there is a product called motion eaze that I use that works great. It is a liquid that you put behind your ear. It smells a little, but the smell disappears quickly. I also found out about another product on this board called quease ease. It is an inhaler that is supposed to work quicly should you feel nauseous. I am going to buy it and take it with me....better safe than sorry. I also keep bonine on hand. Hope this helps.

Could be true. Our cabin was an aft cabin and we had the aft dining room, but what about when people traveling together have cabins both forward and aft and still want to sit together at dinner??? :p

Yea, I have to be the difficult one. :D

We just got off the Victory and had a great time!

We:

Raced Sailboats in St Thomas,

Took the Island Bus/Waterfall tour in Dominica,

Played on Rockley Beach in Barbados (thanks Alpmac!),

Mountian Biked up the Mountains and Hiked Down to the waterfalls in St Lucia,

Snorkeled with the Sting Rays in Antigua,

and SCUBA in St Kitts

They where all so amazing, it would be really hard to say which one was my favorite.

I have a link to our pictures in my signature. It was pretty amazing! :)

I would recommend having things planned in advance on this itenerary. Time moves really fast and it will catch you off guard if you are not prepared.

Can anyone tell me which dock Carnival Victory uses in St Lucia.

From what I have been reading there are 2 dockx

There are a couple of ships in port on our date ( november ) and I don't know if our ship dock in Pointe Seraphine or dock at La Place Carenage.

I am planning an excursion that is why I ask this maybe stupid question.

While I am asking, is there on one of the islands : St Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, St Kitts a time difference between the ship and these islands that I should consider in planning our trips ?

and which are the dockx on the other islands ?

Thank you all for your input

Have a great day

Frieda

In my limited experience, Carnival usually gets the berth at Point Seraphine

Castries-4.jpg

Because they are year-round visitors(not just winters-only)

Carnival usually gets the berth of preference.

You should be here...
