dual Posted June 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Being a new cruiser - how chilly is it at night on the ship? Im doing the western Caribbean in November - I'm sure the daytime will be warm - but what are the evenings like outside and inside the ship? Its bad enough trying to fit in all I want to pack - but sweaters can take up alot of room. Do you all take sweaters/Cardigans etc or will a couple of those wrap over shawls work just as well? Thank you
Jan_In_Maine Posted June 12, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I've never had a problem with it being too cold in the evenings ... sometimes a shawl is nice, but otherwise I wear a sleeveless shirt at night. Jan
Keksie Posted June 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Of the four cruises I have been on 2 have been cool, one was freezing and the last one was comfortable. It really depends on the ship and how easily you chill. I get cold very easily and then I am miserable so I always bring at least one sweater for the evenings. I don't like wraps but I have a fairly thin sweater that is a little dressier. I also have a little bolero that is dressy that goes with some of my things. oceanbums Posted June 12, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I take a light sweater or wrap for the dining room; sometimes after being in the sun all day I get chilly on the ship at night.
Happy ks Posted June 12, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Many women who get cold easily claim they are cold on a ship in the evening. I'm the opposite and rarely get cold, so I don't bother taking a wrap or a sweater along. But, instead of plural sweaters, take one and perhaps one wrap for your formal nights. CowPrincess Posted June 12, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I take a "pashmina" in a neutral color. It takes very little room in the suitcase. I usually use it in the dining room.
ucmom3 Posted June 12, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I've taken a sweater on both of my cruises, used it both times. So, I plan on bringing it again. I too get a chill from being in the sun all day. I also think it gets cool in the showroom and casino.
Beanie01 Posted June 12, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 12, 2009 On my last cruise, it was FREEZING in the theater! This was in May! I was so glad I brought a cardigan with me. This time, I'm traveling in Oct., but it's indoors that I'm worried about. So I bought a black velvet shrug to go with all 5 dresses I'm wearing, and I'm bringing a simple black cardigan for the other 2 outfits.
DoggieDash84 Posted June 12, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I always brings a sweater or even a light jacket. But then again, I get cold very easily. I also always bring something to wear to dinner at night, too. If you don't want to bring something on the cruise, you could wait and see how it is for you and buy something later at port or in a gift shop. cb at sea Posted June 12, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2009 In Nov. it will STILL be summer-weather--in the Caribbean, it's always pleasantly warm!
Rare Lois R Posted June 12, 2009 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Hi,:) I have sailed to the Caribbean in almost every month of the year. Its a warm climate all year round but I always take a cardigan with me. Maybe its just "my Mom"....no matter where we went, whatever the time of year, if on vacation she always made sure I packed a sweater;). Now, I am not talking about a heavy gage pullover. But a nice button down cardigan....something with a soft hand that goes with most anything because the one I usually bring is black and it does not take up much space at all. And I only bring it for the evenings.:)..daytime I will throw in a light warm up jacket (just in case). Oh, My Mom has been gone since 1993 but some of those things still stay with me.;)
dual Posted June 12, 2009 Author #12 Share Posted June 12, 2009 Thanks for the input. Ive been to the caribbean so many times, at night I can get chilly as its so hot in the day, so I figure in the middle of the Ocean im sure the winds can whip up a bit. I'll take a cardi and a wrap just in case. Better safe than sorry eh :)
svetty Posted June 14, 2009 #13 Share Posted June 14, 2009 i usually take pashmina with me, if i wanna sit on the balcony and it feels a bit chilly i just wrap myself in pashmina and it feels warmer right away:))) as a rule i always bring something with long sleeves just in case, but pashmina looks really nice even on a formal night when you want to dress up and might not wanna wear a sweatshirt for warmth:)
