Do you need advice about Stockholm?

You mentioned back a few threads about this boat service being new. Is it currently in service? I have looked on their website and I could by tickets in advance, but I am reluctant to do that without much knowledge of their service.

Any advice about purchasing tickets before arriving on a cruise ship. It would be nice not to have to wait in lines to get tickets. It also would be nice not to wait in line for tickets for the Vasa Museum and Skansen as well. Do you know how we could accomplish that?

Their first day of service was April 16th or 17th so yes they are in service.

You can find their facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/Redsightseeing

I don't know if there is possible to buy tickets in advance for Skansen and/or Vasa but I don't think so.

We arrive 12:30 pm on July 9 and board ship Jul 11. We are debating the Stockholm card vrs HOHO boats or both. Any advice

For 2½-3 days I say yes to getting the Stockholm card. As for the HoHo boats it depends on what you plan to do and in what order.

we would be doing the normal highlights Vasa, Gamla Stan, palace. We won't go very far.

OK, I still think that a Stockholm card would be preferable over HoHO since a Stockholm card will give you more flexibility

as well as free entrance to many museums and also free transport with buses trams and subways.

Your ship will dock at F638 at Frihamen.

We are in docked in Stockholm for 2 days and are considering going to the Birka Museum. Is this worthwhile and doable on our first day in port. We dock at 8:00 am.

Thanks.

Doable yes, is it worth it? I don't know, basically it is a two hour journey by boat there, 4 hours at Birka and then a two hour journey back to Stockholm.

Birka itself is quite interesting however from what I've read it's quite expensive there and there aren't much remains to see but the museum is supposed to be nice.

http://www.stromma.se/en/Stockholm/Sightseeing/Day-trips/Birka---The-Viking-City/

The cost is 360SEK (about $55USD) for adults (12 y.o. or older) and 180 for children (aged 6-11) which included boat trip, guided tour and entrance fee to the museum.

Thanks for the feedback on Birka Museum. We may decide to book it as it is a nice change.

We are docked at Frihamnen 634 and would need to get to Stadshusbron to catch the boat to Birka Island.

How would be the best way to get there and how long would it take?

Will bus 76 get us there and what kind of ticket would we need to buy?

The ship docks at 8:00 am and the boat leaves from Stadshusbron at 10:00 am. Is that enough time to make it.

Thanks for your feedback. Truly a big help.

You cannot go all the way with bus #76.

This is how you have to go:

From Fihamnen to Kungsträdgården (kungsträdgårdsgatan): Bus #76 towards Norra Hammarbyhamnen

From Kungsträdgården (kungsträdgårdsgatan) to Tegelbacken Bus #62 towards Fredhäll.

From Tegelbacken walk to the boat (about 300m). https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Tegelbacken/59.3281091,18.0580481/@59.3280982,18.0601783,539m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x0:0x202026cac16dd5a6!2m2!1d18.062337!2d59.328541!1m0!3e2

This will take about 30 minutes.

Thanks for the directions. A bit more complicated than I thought it would be but guess we will give it a try.

No it's not that complicated.

Here is where you'll change bus:

https://www.google.com/maps/@59.332165,18.072,3a,90y,320.59h,72.53t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sMSm7-URS3fCRbCEGLja9Zg!2e0

The bus stop in the centre of the picture is where you both get off #76 and get on the next bus (#62).

Then at Tegelbacken:

https://www.google.com/maps/@59.328486,18.062303,3a,75y,305.78h,89.16t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s8xNWGP4bs6S1TLUgSYpCgA!2e0

The bus stop is to the right, then just walk towards the city hall (the large brick tower in the background), under the bridge and continue until you see the boats on your left.

You might even be able to see the red flags behind the bridge, which is the boats berth

Hello,

I know that the Nobel/Town Hall can only be visited with a guide (or at least that is what I keep reading). We will be going in July. Do you know if tickets/openings are usually available or if we would have to get there early in the morning to get a tour scheduled/buy tickets.

Thanks!

I don't know how popular these tours are so perhaps you could send an email to the address listed at this page:

http://international.stockholm.se/the-city-hall/tours-of-the-city-hall/ and ask them for advice.

However it does say: " In June, July and August, there are tours available in English every 30 minutes between 09.30 and 16.00"

We are going to be docked at the buoy (Eurodam) and didn't get our order in for the Stockholm card early enough, so we printed out a voucher. How far is it from where our tenders will bring us to a place to pick them up?

According to Stockholm card web site FAQ you'll have to pick them up at the Stockholm Visitor Center, Kulturhuset, (house of culture) Sergels Torg 3. If the boat drops you off near Slussen it will be a 0.8 miles walk 'm afraid.

Another options is to walk down to Slussen T-bana (Subway), go with the subway, Green line #17, #18 or #19 towards Hässelby Strand, to Hötorget and walk from there:

Hi, booked tickets for Abba Experience. Just wondering about distance from cruise terminal? How far? Taxi cost for 4 people? Public transport available?

Thanks :)

Is there an entrance advantage with the card? That is a faster line or other advantage?

With the ~$105US for 2 days vs our planned costs of ~$70 (plus a few busses), it doesn't seem to be worth it. We also plan to use HOHO boats and apparently not covered by the card, correct?

Thanks for all your help. Very valuable.

Distance is about 5km by car or about 1.3km across the water.

http://kartor.eniro.se/m/n2D1m

I would guess that taxi cost would be around 200-250SEK for one taxi.

There are also public transport available.

There are HoHo boats but I don't know if the early ones stops at both Allmänna Gränd and Vasa or if they only stop at Vasa.

Possible you can walk from Vasa to the Abba Museum:

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3278262,18.0902595/59.3288077,18.0918408/@59.3277412,18.0922642,427m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!4m3!1m0!1m0!3e2

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3277366,18.0923353/Abba+The+Museum,+Djurg%C3%A5rdsv%C3%A4gen+68,+115+21+Stockholm,+Sverige/@59.3263296,18.0924875,516m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f82aad341ff05:0x4a15f07835978e47!2m2!1d18.097092!2d59.324822!3e2

The other option is to take a bus (or walk) down to Slussen and from there go with Djurgårdsfärjan to Allmänna gränd.

http://www.waxholmsbolaget.se/visitor/djurgarden-ferry/maps-ferry-terminals/

Bus tickets is sold at the terminal where you dock, by Stockholm Visitors Board Ab (Masthamnen). Closest bus stop is Londonviadukten.

Tickets for Djurgårdsfärjan is sold at the ferry terminal.

There is no faster entrance line with the Stockholm card to my knowledge.

It is also correct that the card is not valid on the HoHo boats.

Are there two entrances to Skansen, and if so which is closer to the Vasa Museum? We will be visiting the Vasa first and then want to go to Skansen.

Yes there are two entrances. The closest is the western entrance called Hazeliusporten.

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/59.3276925,18.0924337/59.327386,18.0986829/@59.3280391,18.0970644,542m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!4m3!1m0!1m0!3e2

https://www.google.com/maps/@59.327419,18.098431,3a,29.8y,105.42h,96.49t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sQEEuq1gIKZHRariTS8ROqA!2e0

The closest route is to take a right turn when you exit Vasa, walk along the side of the museum, across the lawns and the across the street.

You could also go up the stairs at the side of the museum, past the Estonia memorial and through Galärvarvskyrkogården and then across the street.
