When you say I should go to Vasa before heading over to the Hard Rock, what is at Vasa?

You never heard about it?

It is a museum 100% dedicated to the 17th century warship Vasa.

http://www.vasamuseet.se/en/About/News/This-is-the-Vasa-Museum/

It does not matter if you are 0% interested in history or old ships this museum is top class and it is A MUST.

http://www.tripadvisor.se/Attraction_Review-g189852-d208277-Reviews-Vasa_Museum-Stockholm.html#REVIEWS

Also don't worry if you are in a wheelchair, the museum is wheelchair friendly and very accessible with a wheelchair.

There are no steps and all levels have elevator access.

Hi! We have booked tickets for the Abba museum ( wife is a big fan) I think we will taxi there from the port? I really fancy the Ice Bar (I'm a big fan! :) any idea on distances between these two venues from the cruise terminal and roughly how much we'd be looking at for the taxi journeys?

Thanks,

Gossy :)

Abba museum is just across the harbour, use HoHo boats to get there.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=42884442#post42884442

The museum is about 160m straight forward from where the boat drops you off.

You can also use; bus #53 towards Roslagstull from Londonviadukten to Sergelstorg where you change to tram #7 towards Djurgården/Waldermarsudde, get off at Liljevalchs/Gröna Lund.

For the latter you can visit the Ice bar before you continue to Abba museum. Get off the bus at Stockholm central Vasagatan.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Stockholm+Central+Vasagatan/Icebar+Stockholm+by+Icehotel,+Vasaplan+4,+101+37+Stockholm/@59.3309959,18.0580097,17z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5fd41ea9a3:0x947f8c30d0eb3289!2m2!1d18.059785!2d59.330345!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d607fff44d9:0x2fb52fcb5bc7a52b!2m2!1d18.056462!2d59.332068!3e2

When you are finished at the icebar you can walk to Sergels torg to catch tram #7.

Awesome! Thank you. We have tickets for about 10.00 for Abba so will probably do the ice bar after. But I guess I could reverse the route you mention above :) thanks for your quick response.

Hi

Firstly and foremost what an excellent forum, my thanks to all contributors.

Having read through previous posts I have learnt so much about Stockholm and probably saved myself some money :)

I arrive on the 3rd of July approx 9am at frihamnen (I believe 3 other cruise ships are also in Stockholm on this day)

My agenda for the day is quite simple; Vasa, changing of the guard followed by a leisurely stroll around Gamla Stan and then return to the ship.

My plan so far;

1. As soon as we dock purchase 24 hour tourist card

2. Catch bus 76 to Vasa

3. Catch 76 bus again to Gamla Stan for changing of the guard etc

4. Return to ship via 76 bus

Now for my questions;

1. On the outbound 76 bus what will be the destination on the front of the bus?

2. At the Palace what is the best place to watch the changing of the guard (I'm a keen photographer)

3. On the return 76 bus what will be the destination on the front of the bus?

4. With regards to bus stops are they clearly visible, any distinguishing features :)

Apologies for such precise questions but I am a solo female traveller who has a built in fear of getting lost and missing her cruise departure time! I prefer to cross all the T's and dot the I's before I leave.

Due to the heavy volume of cruise passengers in town on this day, if you feel I need to re-route e.g. Vasa in the afternoon, please feel free to point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for your help

Kind regards

A x

Ally,

1. Norra Hammarbyhamnen

2. I don't know, I would recommend you to check youtube videos of it. Search for changing of the guards stockholm or Högvakten stockholm

3. Ropsten or Frihamnen.

4. Yes bus stops are easy to spot: https://www.google.com/maps/@59.341587,18.118229,3a,15y,355.56h,88.34t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s10uXGwEtwWNG-LzVJRRfJw!2e0

The pole with the red/white plate on top is at all bus stops. Where there is room there is also usually a glass shelter.

The pole as well as markings on the shelter and time tables in the shelter will indicate which buses that stops at that particular stop.

I don't know if the afternoon would be better for Vasa, I would probably do Vasa as the first thing. It gives you a much greater flexibility as well.

Can we go to Abba Museum without buying tickets ahead of time? And what is the price? Ships tour is $89, but that includes transportation and a city tour.

I am not sure if you can visit without booking. you can buy tickets at the museum but I assume that there is no guarantee that there are available times if you don't book ahead of the visit.

price is 195SEK/Adults ($29-30 USD)

http://www.abbathemuseum.com/en/practical-info

I would recommend against doing the ship tour, Stockholm is better to do it yourself.

Ok no problem regarding the date, your signature said June so I assumed you were coming here the 3rd week in June.

Anyway do it like this:

Ship (Räntmästartrappan)->Vasa-Djurgårdsfärjan

Vasa->Abba->Östermalmshallen.

Vasa->Abba is a short walk along the water:

Abba-Östermalmshallen, either tram 7 from Liljevalchs/Gröna Lund stop

or:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=42536019&highlight=ressel#post42536019

to Nybroplan and walk from there.

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Stockholm+Nybroplan/%C3%96stermalms+Saluhall,+%C3%96stermalmstorg,+114+42+Stockholm,+Sverige/@59.3339789,18.0789051,17z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5bb559edd5:0x35c4743cccabec4c!2m2!1d18.076552!2d59.33273!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5b24096139:0x3d784e22bab4355a!2m2!1d18.078389!2d59.336035!3e2

Then you have the rest of the day of to do whatever you want.

Perhaps walk to NK and from NK to Drottninggatan?

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/%C3%96stermalms+Saluhall,+%C3%96stermalmstorg,+114+42+Stockholm,+Sverige/NK+Stockholm,+Hamngatan+18-20,+111+47+Stockholm,+Sverige/59.3328939,18.0623909/@59.3336459,18.0656449,17z/data=!4m15!4m14!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5b24096139:0x3d784e22bab4355a!2m2!1d18.078389!2d59.336035!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5c19adfc51:0x71d7e22255fa1cde!2m2!1d18.069171!2d59.333152!1m0!3e2

Both are in the shopping area of Stockholm.

The second day I would do it the same order as in my previous post with city hall directly in the morning followed by changing of the guards and strolling around Gamla Stan.

Go with bus 3 from Mälartorget to City Hall stop:

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Stockholm+Nybroplan/%C3%96stermalms+Saluhall,+%C3%96stermalmstorg,+114+42+Stockholm,+Sverige/@59.3339789,18.0789051,17z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5bb559edd5:0x35c4743cccabec4c!2m2!1d18.076552!2d59.33273!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f9d5b24096139:0x3d784e22bab4355a!2m2!1d18.078389!2d59.336035!3e2

Buses and trams requires prepaid tickets or travelcards.http://sl.se/en/fares--tickets/

For the harbour ferries Djurgårdsfärjan and M/S Emelie (Resselrederi) where the tickets are bought during or after boarding.

Thank you again for your help! I thought of a few more questions, if you are able to assist:

  1. If we are tendering from the ship, what would be the best place to buy a 24 or 72-hour card? Do the machines at the bus stops offer these types of tickets?
  2. Is the tram you mentioned included in the 24/72-hour cards?
  3. I saw the SL site mentions that the 24/72-hour travelcards are valid on "Djurgården ferries between Slussen and Djurgården" - it looks like this ferry runs fairly frequently. Would it be a faster option than the bus to get to Vasa in the morning?

The museum also warns that there is an extra 10-20 SEK fee for buying tickets over-the-counter, which I assume means not online, in advance. There is a MasterCard offer for 5% off admission when you buy online in advance.

All ticket info is on the museum site: http://www.abbathemuseum.com/en/

There is a tobacco shop called Spelslussen located at Slussplan 1-3

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Slussplan+1/@59.3221953,18.0725554,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x465f77e32543eb87:0x7c03f6532c76c723

Opening hours is week days: 08-19, Saturdays: 09-18, Sundays: 10-16

Yes all SL traffic is included as well as Sjövägen and also Djugårdsfärjan.

As for Djurgårdsfärjan the actual travel time is about the same.

If I were you I would take Djurgårdsfärjan to Vasa, then I would take the other ferry m/s Emelie from Djurgården to Nybroplan, walk from Nybroplan to

Östermalmshallen, bus from Österhalmshallen to Gamla and then walk around gamla stan until it's time to leave.

This means that you only have to buy one bus ticket.

MY editing time ran out:

My suggestion means that you don't have "waste" valuable time in the morning to try to get a travel card and you'll get some really nice views of Stockholm from the water.

As I said with the ferries you buy the tickets during the boarding process.

However the ferries does not run as frequent as the buses.

Also at Östermalmstorg there are ticket machines in the north east corner.

Like PatriciaF says HoHo boats only runs in clockwise directions.

Do Vasa the first thing in the morning followed by changing of the guard and Gamla Stan.

From Vasa to Gamla Stan/Royal Palace you have several options.

HoHo boats - this is probably the slowest option. around 20-25 min.

Djurgården harbour ferry this will take about 10-15 min.+ 10 walking time.

bus #76 this will take about 10 min.

Also changing of the guards takes place at 12.15 on Mon-Sat and 13.16 on Sundays/red days.

http://www.forsvarsmakten.se/Global/Myndighetswebbplatsen/2-Var-verksamhet/hogvakten/vaktparad-med-musik-mars-december.pdf

However there should be plenty of time for what you want to see, you could spend 2,5 hours at Vasa and still have a good margin to get to the Royal Palace in time for the changing iof the guards.

OKAY .. I had this all planned out arriving in Frihamnen 634 (per NCL this is where we are docking) BUT accordingly to the port schedule we are docking at Stadsgarden S167. I don't think NCL knows where their ship is docking LOL!! From what I am reading, find the bus stop and getting to the Ferry dock is harder than the farther pier Frihmnen.

Can someone please provide directions for me??

We want to get to the Ferry to go to Vasa first off boat at 8am.

Then walk/or use pub trans (thinking bus #76) to changing of royal guard and then walk through Gamla Stan. From there .. do we still take #76 back to Stadsgarden or bus#1 (read someone but disregarded as I thought the pier was Frihamnen).

Thank you .. I tried scanning through the thread but there is so much information here LOL!!

No this not correct.

get off at Slussen and just walk across the Slussen bridge and you'll find the ferries on the right side (you can't miss them),

See this post for transport options from Stadsgården.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1017275&page=88

Bus #76 can be used from Vasa to Gamla Stan but it does not pass Stadsgården. use bus #53 from Gamla Stan back to the ship.

It stops at these places in Gamla Stan. https://www.google.se/maps/dir/Riddarhustorget/M%C3%A4lartorget/@59.324211,18.065041,585m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f77e21fa377d7:0x88feeee0277d799a!2m2!1d18.066364!2d59.325409!1m5!1m1!1s0x465f77e3ae23cd5d:0x733aedf1e9bf46a7!2m2!1d18.068173!2d59.323016

You could also walk back to the ship. It's quite far to walk though but it will give you really great view of Stockholm.

https://www.google.se/maps/dir/59.3219804,18.0727095/59.3189956,18.074933/59.317731,18.0824861/59.3171069,18.0894491/59.3156232,18.0899534/59.3155356,18.1034288/@59.3177255,18.0801687,15z/data=!4m8!4m7!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!1m0!3e2

Is it possible to buy admission tickets ahead for the Vasa museum?

Are there any other reservations or admission tickets that should be done ahead of time?

Thanks!

To my knowledge the only place possible/needed to buy tickets in advance for is the Abba museum.

I'd start a new thread but don't know how so I'm hoping someone can help.

The Vessel Calls site shows the Norwegian Star is docking here July 28. I read it is a buoy and we will be transported to dock. Anyone know where that dock is? Trying to figure out about transportation. May have to just book a tour cuz I don't want to be caught in the middle of nowhere!!

Can anyone provide information? Thanks.
