What are the advantages of being a diamond class on RC?

Recommended Posts

Diamond is a tier level of the RCI Crown & Anchor loyalty cruising program - not a class, or category, of cruising that can be purchased. It is attained once you have accrued 80 cruise points, typically measured as one point for every night at sea. There are different membership perks and benefits provided based on the tier level achieved, with Diamond being the third highest level.

Here is a link to the C & A program describing each tier level and associated benefits:

Here is what we get when we sail on an RCI ship. We get Diamond class because of our status on Celebrity.

-$200 discount on our balcony cabin (per cabin-if we book a balcony)

-access (all day) to the concierge lounge. All day coffees, foods. continental breakfast, lunch, etc

-evening in the lounge 5-8PM open bar, appetizers (hot and cold)

-three free drinks each loaded on to our key cards that can be used in any bar between 5Pm and 8PM (but not in the dining room)

-we apparently get these perks/access whether we book an inside or we book the President's suite

plus a few others that are not meaningful to us. Cannot remember if we get any free internet minutes...maybe 100 or so.

We are not loyal to any one cruise line so it is sometimes difficult to keep them separate in our minds. From our perspective, RCI has one of the best loyalty programs HAL has one of the poorest based on our preferences. Clearly everyone has different preferences, likes, dislikes etc.

It is a very good program.

Unless you are staying in a suite, you do not have access to the concierge lounge as a diamond member. Your #2 point is incorrect. Concierge lounge is for any passenger, regardless of Crown and Anchor status, who is staying in a full suite. On most ships Diamond plus and above have access, but this is changing.

Diamond members have access to the Diamond lounge. Lounge does have 24-hour coffee machine. There are hors d'ourves during the evening cocktail hour and usually pastries, fruit, etc. for breakfast. No lunch.

Thanks, I'm going on my first cruise as a diamond class so I can't wait!

One's status in a cruise line's loyalty program is generally not referred to as one's "class".

You do see that term more often used when referencing the additional amenities given when booking a higher category of cabin. (I personally find this use erroneous as well, though not as egregiously so as in the case of loyalty status).

In either case it sure makes the user of the term sound like they believe others to be of a lower level. While we all know the truth is that "class" rarely correlates with either experience or expenditure.

As mentioned by another poster this is incorrect. Diamonds do not have access to the Concierge lounge, but do have access to the Diamond lounge.

-evening in the lounge 5-8PM open bar, appetizers (hot and cold)

And unlimited drinks. The hours are not 5:00 - 8:00 and vary by ship at either 4:30 - 8:00, or 5:00 - 8:30, and take place every night of the cruise.

-three free drinks each loaded on to our key cards that can be used in any bar between 5Pm and 8PM (but not in the dining room)

The eligible times match the Diamond lounge hours and are either 4:30 - 8:00, or 5:00 - 8:30, and expire each day if not used. As mentioned above, the drinks in the Diamond lounge are unlimited and do not require the coupons. The coupons are for use only in bars outside of the DL.

-we apparently get these perks/access whether we book an inside or we book the President's suite

Nothing apparent about it. The Diamond benefits are not based on stateroom category but are Loyalty Program based. Suite (v standard stateroom) categories carry their own benefits that are category based.

I posted a link on my previous response that details the various tier level benefits. All of which are pre-loaded on your SeaPass card.

Agree.

It is a very good program.

Note my comments in red. Much of your information is inaccurate or needs further clarification. Want to be accurate for the OP with their first cruise as Diamond. And BTW, OP, congrats!

On our last two RCI cruises, as Diamond members, we had access to the Diamond lounge. It has a concierge...and we prevailed upon him to resolve an issue for us. He was there in the morning, sometimes at lunch, and hosted the lounge from about 4:30 to 8/8:30PM.

On both cruises we had continental breakfast and multiple caps/expressos every AM because it was quiet. We often had cheese and fruit in the lounge for lunch. Sometimes they had small sandwiches. Don't know about that..never tried them. In the evening there were hot appetizers (very nice ones), cheeses, small sandwiches, vegetable tray, fruit.

Red wine in the Diamond lounge was fine. Up a few rungs from the free red paint remover/plonk we have had on a few other lines.

The typical Concierge hours in the Diamond lounge are 8:00 - 11:30 and (based on ship) during the cocktail hours of 4:30 - 8:00, or 5:00 - 8:30

At one point we were considering what was refrerred to as a suite on another cruise line. The big selling point seemed to be a concierge lounge and not really much extra real estate in the cabin.

We passed, based in part on our RCI experiences. Did not see any point in paying for something that we got gratis on RCI. That was not the deciding factor in selecting the cruise line but it was in selecting the cabin.

We have cruised on RCI twice with this experience. Once in the Med for 8 days, once in Aus/NZ for 20 days. Our favourite time was the morning. It seemed like such a quiet and restful place compared to the DR or Windjammer buffet.
