  1. Wow. So professionally done. Regent must be thrilled. Looks like they are luxury travel agents and got a comp cruise.
  2. On the Grand Asia Exploration this Spring, lecturer Brian Unger did an awesome job covering Chinese, Japanese and Korean history and culture -- with terrific slides. Best lecturer I've had on ANY ship. Funny and informative.
  3. We were in Suite 743 on Explorer, which was diagonally across from a service closet. The door did slam frequently but only in the daytime and never too early. Didn't really bother us, but you could hear it slam when in our suite during the day.
  4. Good news. Thanks for checking. Always glad to shut down incorrect info.
  5. Tell your server you want to make it to the 9:30pm show and they will do their best to make it happen. And you may want to reconsider your cooking classes (which are awesome) for 10am. We found that when taking the 4pm class, we were MORE than full afterwards and couldn't eat dinner. And missing meals is a horror when aboard ship!
  6. Thank you for your awesome daily review...it's a real highlight for us land-lubbers. Quick questions. There's a rumor on the FB site that Ray Solaire is "retiring." I suspect he's going on vacation, but thought you'd know. He's such a fixture on Navigator..."how do you doooooooo?"
  7. We had some trepidation before boarding the Grand Asia Voyage on Explorer this January but needn't have...it was fantastic. Yes, it's a long time, but one gets into a rhythm with crew, fellow "long haulers", restaurants, lounges and the many activities Regent plans. We absolutely loved it. And yes, we gradually built up our cruises -- did a 28 day Baltic cruise and the next year did a 34-day Circle Australia cruise. Hope this helps!
  8. My dad taught me to take off my cap indoors. Especially at meals. Here’s some info on why this tradition is a sign of respect. Many young people aren’t aware. https://bestlifeonline.com/rude-to-wear-a-hat-indoors/
  9. Escargot, Miso-glazed Sea Bass, Lamb chops -- all in Compass Rose.
  10. Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I know how time consuming this must be and we all appreciate your views and photos. Thanks for offering your honest views...successes and failures. Good luck with your reentry to daily life off the ship. We always miss the menus, housekeeping and friends we made onboard.
  11. Hi Bill! Here's my brief review for Explorer Penthouse Suite 743. Hope I filled it out correctly. Thanks for doing this -- we all benefit from your efforts! John Explorer 743 cruise critic rating.xls
  12. Explorer is scheduled for a dry dock in May after her Pacific crossing from Tokyo to Vancouver. Her schedule is clear from May 23 to June 7.
  13. Regarding the poor Internet, we experienced the same dismal connectivity but it was somewhat improved by advice I'd gotten on this site -- to use the binoculars supplied by Regent as a wedge to keep the door open. The "repeater" is in the hallway and this does help somewhat. 🙂 We had dinner with the GM and he says Explorer is being fitted with Starlink when they go into drydock in May. 🙌 Fifty folks will board with the express purpose of rewiring the entire ship. Another 200 will board to re-carpet the entire ship and some other improvements. He was vague on what other improvements were in store. All in 7 days.
  14. You are smart to be ready to go with all of your choices the minute excursions open for booking. When I have a lot to book and I'm having trouble with the site, I call Regent's 800 number. I booked all excursions for a 61-day cruise in 15 minutes. Would've taken hours online.
  15. Thanks for sharing your trip with us! I understand that speaker Brian Unger is aboard Explorer. If you get a chance, go see him. Very entertaining and informative. Best speaker I've seen on any cruise line.
  16. We just returned from the Grand Asia Exploration on Explorer. We had the live muster drill for all but the last leg of our 61-day cruise. Looks like the live drill is no longer being done -- one must watch the TV drill (that is quite long) before you can watch anything else on your TV.
  17. Welcome back. Your insight and sense of humor have been missed.
  18. Sorry if this is has already been mentioned, but there is a page of special offers for solo travelers on the RSSC site, some supplements as low as 25% https://www.rssc.com/specials/single-supplement-special-us
  19. We're also boarding Explorer on Jan. 26. An Aussie friend reminded me it was Australia day and the harbor area will be alive with celebratory events. Hope we see fireworks from the ship! We are lucky to be staying aboard for the Grand Asia Exploration, which ends in Tokyo on March 28. See you soon!
  20. I'm excited for you and excited for us, too. Thanks for taking us along. Your last "live report" was so informative....and entertaining. You have a familiar writing style that is easy -- and fun -- to follow. BTW...your tree and village look amazing!
  21. We have friends who swear by these temporary tub handles. Use them on every cruise. https://a.co/d/ajAMUgF
  22. HI BIll! Attached is a review of Mariner cabin 834. Thanks for making this updated document available for us all. Much appreciated. John Regent Mariner Cabin 834 review.xls
  23. We have been on three Regent cruises totaling 80 nights and most of the busses on our excursions ranged from 50-70% full. The crew a the destinations desk told me they try to keep at least 30 percent of each bus empty to allow for more comfort and spreading out. I can't think of a time we've been on a full bus, but that may have happened...but very rarely.
  24. From looking at the RSSC Facebook page, David Nevin is on the Explorer.
