  1. Might be because so many US citizens on closed loop cruises sail with a birth certificate and ID instead of a passport.
  2. Considering that the changes are due to an equipment failure, the compensation is more than fair. If the ship can’t make speed it can’t get south to PR and the BVI.
  3. Then switch the order of the ports, make Ketchikan the first stop not the last.
  4. IMO you won’t miss anything, and yes it is buried in the middle of the ship - not a window to be found.
  5. In my definition premium include Azamara, Oceania, and others like that. Luxury include Regent, SilverSea, Seaborne, and Sea Dream of the lines in the US. I know there are other luxury lines.
  6. The distances between ports in SE Alaska is so short that NCL could easily add 5 or 6 hours to the stop and still make the next port.
  7. Last time I looked AK was still in the US, and at times a passport card will work to get you home on a cruise if your passport is lost or stolen, at least it did for me when my passport was pick pocketed.
  8. At best NCL is a middle of the road mass market line. Celebrity, HAL, Princess, and VV are all well above NCL.
  9. My experience is that the solo lounges are under utilized except for the afternoon/evening get together. In all the times I have been in the lounge I have never seen another person. YMMV
  10. It’s good we have choices. On formal night we choose to dine in the buffet, as we don’t want to fool with dressing up.
  11. Nothing wrong with CCL. I have cruised everything from SilverSea down to CCL. Enjoyed them all. The difference with CCL is sometimes some of the passengers are a little rambunctious. If you can overlook that CCL provides a good product. if you need an alcohol package check the cost and compare total out of pocket with NCL. You might find NCL to be a better value.
  12. None of those. If I’m paying that much I’m going on a luxury line. (Don’t think the luxury lines are stuffy and that you have to dress up for dinner. They’re not and you don’t though men do need long pants and a collared shirt.)
  13. Take a look at NCL. Their Free at Sea package which is rolled into the cruise price includes alcohol and specialty dining, along with excursion credit and some wi-if minutes. You pay the gratuity for the alcohol (appx $21 pp/pd) and for the specialty dining (appx $10 per meal). The NCL boards have a wealth of information.
  14. Uber would be perfect, but traffic to SB on a Sunday is worse than a week day, just plan on some extra time.
  15. Hotel for a day is a good idea, but I would not worry about a shuttle to the airport. Just plan on an Uber.
  16. They do to Seward, so I would think they do the same to Whittier, but it’s been about 6 or 8 years since cruised AK. We’ve been doing land trips there.
  17. The one time we drove to FLL we parked at the port. Covered garage, and up high enough that there is little likelihood of water damage if there is a flood or hurricane.
  18. Catch up is taking a long time. Delta is especially hard hit.
  19. Come about 15 - 20 minutes after the dining room opens and the line is usually gone.
  20. Quebec City we were on a B2B and that was turn around day. We were off exploring when it happened. Since we were already boarded, NCL never asked about. CBP let me back in the country using my passport card. The met us because I had already reported it stolen.
  21. After having my passport stolen by a pickpocket while ashore, mine never leaves the ship any longer.
  22. I think if you were to look around and find some freestyle dailies (for any ship) you will get an idea of what goes on onboard on port days.
  23. Using today’s computer mess illustrates why it is better to come early instead of last minute. I hope your friend doesn’t run into flight issues.
  24. Incorrect answer. If it is a closed loop cruise it is not necessary.
