We cancelled both of our reservations. On our last 2 Ocean cruises we were disappointed with Manfredi’s. When we saw that The Restaurant had the exact same main course as the World Cafe, we decided to cancel. The food on the Explorer ships are definitely the best we have experienced. Having a steak house quality grill, sushi bar, seafood buffet, bakery, and incredible desserts every night made it an easy decision. Plus, we didn’t want to miss nightly trivia.

There is almost nothing that exceeds the amount (high end Champaign and full bottles of wine, if I recall).

We were only on the Santiago to Ushuaia leg, which we highly recommend. Here is my writeup Not sure if the "toys" are deployed north of Santiago. That being said I found the Expedition ship the best experience of any of the Viking products. The entertainment is limited but I enjoyed that. (I find cruise ship entertainment to be typically awful and something to be avoided.) The main focus is lectures on science, nature, and history; all of which I found fascinating, enjoyable, and first rate. As for as food, it's superior to both Viking Ocean and River. You can dine on steak and lobster every night if you so wish. They also have an extensive sushi bar and seafood buffet. We never had a reason to eat in the restaurant and cancelled both of our reservations. If you are expecting a typically cruise ship experience, you need to adjust your expectations. It is not that. We had 320 passengers and 250 crew. The service was incredible.

We were just on the Expedition cruise of the fjords in October and the only insects we noticed were bees.

Viking tends to send a lot of email. You might want to check and make sure you have the one labeled “Important – Viking Final E-Document: “ That one contains everything.

The first page of the final e-document has a “Your Journey Summary” page. Near the bottom you will find the ship docking location. For example:

On the Octantis last month, our trivia partners brought a bottle of their own champagne to the living room where the staff corked it and served us. Even though we finished 2nd, we had better champagne than the 1st place team.

Not sure what your definition of “normal expedition” is. The toys were deployed on the days we were anchored all day at 3 glaciers and at one port day (Puerto Chacabuco). The toy excursions were scheduled all day long so I’m not sure what you mean by “twice daily.” We were able to take two SOB and two Zodiacs excursions including a landing to see one of the glaciers (we had no interest in sub or kayaks). We found this more than adequate. Basically the toys were used whenever possible. This is a scenic cruise and the scenery was incredible. The only real “at sea” day was the 2nd day out of Valparaiso. Every other day was a port call, anchoring at glacier, fjord cruising, and rounding the horn. Every day was filled with spectacular views and wildlife sightings. This was definitely a bucket list cruise. We’ve never been on any itinerary quite like it and throughly enjoyed it.
