  2. We always book DVs and have never been shut out of the tour we wanted. That being said there are some techniques you need to employ when booking optional excursions. 1) make a plan and prioritize your excursions. 2) book in MVJ as soon as your excursion booking window opens 3) book included excursions last. 4) having an excursion in your shopping cart doesn’t guarantee a booking. Checking out does. So do one at a time. Select your times then immediately pay and check out, then proceed to the next one. 5) credit cards require you to enter the number every time you check out, while ACH info can be pre-entered. Therefore paying with an electronic bank payment is quicker. Time is of the essence. 6) some optional excursions, like those labeled privileged access, have a limited number of guests. If interested in one of those, book it first. 7) if something is sold out, go back to MVJ daily and check again. People sometimes cancel and sometimes additional tours may be added if demand warrants. We were on the Mediterranean Odyssey in April. Here is the link to my “live” posting.
  3. Especially since the Olympics are in Paris next year, there will be pressure to postpone this until 2025.
  4. Given that the 2026 dates for Egypt river cruises were announced earlier this month, my guess would be in the next two months.
  5. I’ve never seen the EBD (Early Booking Discount) do anything. It seems the discount price, if any, is already baked in whether you use the code or not.
  6. Why do I think that a response to an 6 year old thread that plugs a hotel from a user that joined CC an hour ago, might actually be someone posting an advertisement?
  7. I wouldn’t fret. While you might not find this week’s best sellers, the collection is vast and eclectic. I’m positive you’ll find something to your liking as you explore the ship. BTW After winning our 4th trivia contest on our last cruise, the assistant cruise director told me that all the answers to the trivia contest are found on the ship.
  8. Books on board have been curated by London bookseller Heywood Hill. Literally every nook and cranny is filled with books. Some spaces like the Explorer’s Lounge and Living Room have many bookcases. It’s almost impossible to sit down in any public space without having a selection of books a few feet away. https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/video/why-viking/curated-libraries--recommended-reading/play.html
  9. Drinks are provided in all cabins but replenished daily in every cabin class except V. No big deal since you can take and extra soft drink can from the World Cafe. You are correct about boarding. Your cabin might not be ready but the World Cafe is open for lunch and the rest of the ship is available to explore. I’ve always been able to board when I arrived.
  10. SSP is just a different way to pay for alcoholic drinks. You can purchase anything available on the SSP wine list. IMO unless you drink spirits, you are better off buying wine by the glass. I’m not a big wine drinker, but on one cruise a couple we were with sometimes preferred the included wine. The whole wine thing to me is totally subjective. As a joke I once took a bottle of Ralph’s plane wrap wine to a wine tasting and in a blind taste test, it placed 2nd.
  11. I’m curious if you filled out the dietary preferences in MVJ before your cruise?
  12. No Diet Coke on two Mediterranean cruises this year.
  13. Coke Zero is their diet cola. FWIW Diet Coke is being phased out . The word “diet” is no longer effective in marketing. Even Weight Watchers changed their name to WW. Can’t mention dieting.
  14. The Octantis is currently heading toward the Maritime Provences on its way to the Southern Hemisphere. Does anyone have an update on how Lee is affecting the trip?
  15. I’ll see your Fresh Ground Coffee and raise you Home Roasted Coffee. Once you try it, you’ll never want anything else. Tasting fresh custom roasted single varietal beans grown in a micro climate is pure bliss. https://www.roastmasters.com BTW “strength” has nothing to do with roast or color. The finer the grind, the stronger the coffee. Darker roasts have a different taste because of the amount of carbon, but that is not strength.
  16. Were you expecting a bar? SSP is for use at the bars and restaurants, it doesn’t cover your in room spirits. They will be replenished daily.
  17. I was recently at a major league baseball game and two 20 something insurance salesmen sat behind me, arriving during the 3rd inning (of course). For the next two innings they loudly boasted about everything imaginable, trying to one up each other and brag about how much money they were making. I finally turned around and asked them to turn down the volume a notch. That lasted for about one inning and then they left. Self-awareness is totally absent in society. It’s a narcissistic nightmare.
  18. I doubt it’s an off the shelf fixture. Probably custom designed and made for their fleet.
  19. The OP was asking about the Longitudinal World Cruise
  20. I found some interesting videos of the expedition online that go into the details of the clothing they bought and what was actually used and what they would do differently. I’ll try and locate a link and post it. Edit: Here is the link. I recommended watching his whole day by day series of videos. He even describes how the kayaks work. https://youtu.be/y0cRTg3P2eI?feature=shared
