  1. Remember, below the equator it’s the north, not south.
  2. It’s about a 2 hour bus ride but they stop at a cafe for a bathroom break on the way there and you stop at a restaurant for a meal on the way back. It was also a highlight of our Classic Greece extension. Here is our post about Delphi
  3. In Trier, the birthplace of Karl Marx, the crossing signals are his likeness and they sell “Mein Kapital” piggy banks.
  4. What happens in Zurich stays in Zurich
  5. On our Paris to the Swiss Alps river cruise, there were toilet instructions in Switzerland.
  6. FYI Promo SUM23 is still good until Aug 31 and it also gives double past guest discount.
  7. I’ve never requested it pre-cruise but once you arrive inform your room stewards. They will convey the information to the food service staff and will typically change it before turndown on the first night. BTW We don’t use coffee pods (coffee is available 24/7 in the WC) so for some extra shelf space you can request the coffee machine removed.
  8. Viking uses the Nobu in Barcelona. It’s right next to the train station. Here is my posting about the Barcelona extension
  9. Today’s email: London, Paris & D‑Day 12 DAYS | LONDON TO PARIS VIEW ITINERARY PRICE & BUILD
  10. We loved Journey to Antiquities with the Classic Greece and Tuscany pre and post extensions. Here is our travelogue:
  11. IMO most of the summer 2024 promos have already expired or are currently active. Summer is peak season and the discounts are typically for under booked itineraries, low season, repositioning cruises, short notice, or more than 1 year out. If you look at the current summer 2024 sailings (do a fake booking to see what is available, then exit), the popular ones are filling up. If you see something you want at a discount, I would not wait.
  12. V1 and V2 do not get the minibar refreshed. Only DV and above. You can request it to be filled the first time with whatever flavors you like but after that refills would be chargeable. Typically they have tonic already stocked (lots of gin drinkers?) You can however grab an extra can of soft drinks from the WC and put it in your fridge yourself.
  13. The US State Department has issued a travel advisory to “reconsider travel” to Nicaragua.
  14. Nicaragua has been deemed too politically unstable. Many cruise lines have stopped going there. The US State Department has issued a travel advisory to “reconsider travel.”
  15. Kent - If you missed it last time, take the CARTAGENA FOUNDATIONS WALKING TOUR. Our tour guide was the person who actually discovered the Roman arena as a young college student. His dream was to make the city a major tourist stop for visiting ancient archeology. The tour also included the Carthaginian ruins and well as entering buried Roman houses.. A fascinating tour and tour guide.
  16. We have not taken this particular excursion but have done two others with Viking that required a train connection. Luggage was checked onto the train and you were only responsible for your carryon. BTW we took a variant of Trade Routes that sailed to Copenhagen instead of Bergen. It’s a wonderful cruise. So many different ports and countries. We really enjoyed it. Tip: the included Portsmouth tour can drop you right at the entrance to the historical attractions. The Mary Rose Museum is a must see. Afterward you have plenty of time to visit Nelson’s flagship Victory.
  17. It’s not his nationality, it’s where the business is conducted. Different contract law for different countries. For example the US vs UK pricing is totally different because under UK law “all inclusive” must include tips. Not so in the US. That is just one example. I’m sure the insurance coverage options are much more complicated. Their website has not been programmed to handle any of this, and it is probably not cost effective for them to do so. The vast majority of Viking’s business is North America, Australia, and the UK.
  18. We flew Air Canada into Toronto once and almost missed our connection. We will never fly them again. The connection required a 15 minute walk then a long line at passport control. The flight was late and they kept telling us we had plenty of time. When we got to our gate they had already released our seats and told us the only way out of Toronto was a flight the next morning to Montreal, then to Europe. After a half a dozen passengers made a scene they ended up letting us board. One couple had their First Class seats pulled and ended up in the very last row of coach for the flight to Barcelona. Worst travel experience of my life.
  19. What country are you in? The website redirects based on ip address. You cannot make online bookings if you are on the European continent. This has to do with contract law of different countries as well as exchange rate of currency. The only places you can book online are US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand(?). All other locations require you to call Viking or book through a travel agent.
  20. We have stayed next door in the DV1 4122 and 4123. We love aft cabins. The sail away views are incredible as is the mesmerising wake. On the last cruise we were invited into the ES by our neighbor. It was spectacular. If we could afford it, the aft ES would be the cabin of our choice.
  21. This should be posted in the Viking Jupiter Roll Call forum https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/835-viking-jupiter-roll-calls/
  22. This blog about cabins to avoid lists 3001 as one. YMMV https://viking-cruises-cabin-guide.blogspot.com/p/cabins-to-avioid.html
