  1. For a comparison, take a look at the Sum23 promotion going on now. All the legs of the Sept-Nov repositioning/WC are now on sale. The Antartica segment is sold out so there is that. It’s anyone’s guess what will happen next year. Part of the promotion might have been driven by the Polaris accident causing the cruise to be undersold. Just a SWAG on my part.
  2. Typically the discounts are on the legs of the WC. As the date gets closer the entire cruise might go on sale. It’s a roll of the dice.
  3. What is your destination? We will be on the Octantis in about a month. Polaris and Octantis are starting their repositioning to the Antarctic. Hopefully the hurricane situation won’t delay things.
  4. Has this been implemented fleet wide? I didn’t notice it on our previous two cruises this year but will be looking for it on our upcoming expedition cruise.
  5. BTW the Russell Lee talk at the link near the bottom is excellent. Anyone going to Greece should watch it.
  6. We’ve been told on cruises not to rely on the app since the content is controlled by the web servers in LA and is not always current. On the other hand, the in room TV information and displays on the ship are updated locally and is current information.
  7. The walk to the Acropolis is not that bad. The killer part of Dubrovnik is the first set of stairs. That is by far the hardest part.
  8. Add the feedback to the app. I’m not filling out paperwork on vacation. I would however fill out an e-form on my phone while sitting somewhere on the ship. A paper form feels like homework and I ignore it unless something goes really bad.
  9. The times are on your invoice. Be aware they are subject to change for a variety of reasons.
  10. Lol Yes, Bridget wore a Fitbit and we were clocking in at 8-10 miles on some days, not to mention walking to the top of the Ancient Greek theater at Epidaurus, the largest still in use. Which reminds me, we need to start “training” for our Patagonia adventure.
  11. Itinerary and the passengers it attracts. After living in a beach town for a decade I have no desire to sit around a pool all day. To me this is the most boring thing I can think of. Personally I would never choose a Caribbean cruise. Others are attracted to this area specifically for the beaches, so I can see why the pool is such a popular attraction on these itineraries. I find the idea of traversing the canal something I’d like to experience, but the rest of it is not appealing to me at all. To each, their own.
  12. My personal favorite gift were the packing cubes. Use them all the time.
  13. If there is an airline delay and the ship sails. Viking will attempt to get their air passengers to the next port. This happened on our last cruise. There was an air traffic control strike as well as weather issues. We departed Venice and picked up 80 passengers at our next stop in Split.
  14. The same day airport transfer is only from the ship to airport and vice-versa. It is not designed for people who make their own hotel arrangements for additional time pre-post cruise. Your flights must arrive/leave the same day as the cruise begins/ends.
  15. 1) I have never heard of one way air. 2) If you fly on the same day as embarkation / disembarkation you can purchase a transfer from Viking without Viking Air. If you purchase a pre or post trip extension from Viking, it includes airport transpiration to/from the hotel.
  16. Promo OML is still valid https://www.viking.com/reservations/start?voyageType=ocean&cruiseId=81349&sc=voc&referralPage=australia+new+zealand_datespricing&country=US&originCountry=US&office=US&currency=USD&voyageName=QXVzdHJhbGlhICYgTmV3IFplYWxhbmQ%3d&promoCode=OML&voyageId=OVE250106&voyageSailingYear=2025&voyageSailingMonth=1&_ga=2.249770694.1191659241.1693955042-93921947.1693675138&_gac=1.61862622.1694052615.Cj0KCQjwxuCnBhDLARIsAB-cq1qzj9Hn_O3JrhUs1fDQdKxeLIwImryecg5Q5HexBc9c0FJvRMuc75YaAnJxEALw_wcB
  17. 3 times a year? Wow! In CA it’s every year unless you are selected for a jury and then it’s 3 years. It’s also a one day appearance and if not selected, you are good for another year. Pre-paid vacations are a valid excuse to defer.
  18. If you book a pre or post cruise extension with Viking, transportation from/to the airport is included regardless of whether you use Viking Air.
  19. The have upgraded their ISP to Starlink, but even this system has issues at high latitudes. The issue of streaming to the TVs from you device is totally different. It’s a potential nightmare for IT support staff. Introducing thousands of devices to a private network for streaming to TVs is fraught with issues, not to mention the cost of upgrading the TVs. From the Sky in April:
  20. We were on the Journey to Antiquities last January. You will love it. Here is my live posting.
  21. Pre-sale / skip the line is essentially required. It sells out quickly. The Sagrada is the only distributor of tickets. If you buy a local tour that includes entrance to the Basilica, they are simply buying the tickets for you. If you buy from a 3rd party, you will be sent an email and you must validate your reservation on the Sagrada’s phone app. There were many people on our cruise that did not realize you must make a reservation, sometimes weeks before, and were disappointed that they could not enter. We heard one guy trying to bribe the hotel concierge. “You mean to tell me there is no way to get tickets?”
