  1. I believe the shuttle was from the port to the train station. We took the included tour but I recall the port talk saying you could take the train to Bruges. The port is very large and requires transportation to exit.
  2. On our last cruise the laundry room was closed on Deck 4 for five days. It’s was a pain to find an open machine on the other decks. Yes, there is a small laundry bag that can be used.
  3. Was your return on Lufthansa? We had a similar situation in April because Lufthansa cancelled some service from Munich on certain days to our destination. Instead we had two connections with long layovers in Frankfurt and Denver.
  4. While traveling independently in Australia, we took a Great Ocean Road bus tour from Melbourne. Yes, it is a very long day but the views are spectacular. The inspiration for building the road was CA-1 and Big Sur. The scenery surpasses that. When we arrived, we were able to book a helicopter ride over the 12 Apostles. That was one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. BTW I was reluctant to go because of the long ride but DW insisted and she was right, of course
  5. Although I haven’t heard anything about that particular San Gimignano tour, we did take the Tuscany post cruise extension on the Journey to Antiquities cruise last January. That included Sienna and San G plus lunch in the afternoon. The tour you are referencing sounds pretty close to the 2nd half of our day. It’s a wonderful town to experience and the guide was exceptional. Whatever tour you chose, you really can’t go wrong in Tuscany. It’s one of my favorite places to visit. 6. Cruise ships pay a premium price and that greases the skids, so to speak. BTW Here is an NPR broadcast from 2008 that cautioned about how the expansion combined with climate change was going to create problems in the future. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=87851345
  7. Exactly. It looks like a 3rd party app trying to link into or scrap pages from CC. The banner that was seen by another poster was probably an ad by the app’s developer. It’s essentially a travel booking app attempting to attract users by liking to other websites. Anyone who used it should immediately change their CC password via the official website.
  8. It sounds like this is a 3rd party app that is merely linking to, or scraping the pages of CC. The banner that someone in this thread noticed was probably a paid advertisement. It appears to be a booking app with links to other websites to attract users. I’ll pass.
  9. When you board ask to see the menu schedule and see if you can rebook to the date of a menu you prefer. Most of the time this will not be a problem as many tables open up due to cancellations, etc.
  10. Maybe they mean In the Wake of the Vikings? Trade Routes is between Bergen and Barcelona.
  11. If you are going to Monte Carlo (that is a district in Monaco, akin to Beverly Hills being in L.A.), there is a public boat shuttle service that takes you from the dock area right across the small harbor to the general area where the casino is.
  12. We were there in April and they had already set up the temporary grandstand and repaved the streets. It takes over a month to prepare for the May race. Here is a picture of the temporary grand stands and finish line from The Rock.
  13. The daily restocking is included in your fare. Just let your room steward know your preferences.
  14. FYI If you don’t want to sit in the pool area, you can get your food and take it to the World Cafe, which is next door. Pool area can be a bit humid. Plus WC has the gelato.
  15. The area is not public and if you look at a picture of the ship it has portholes. My guess is also crew quarters.
  16. Have you been to Barcelona? If not, I consider it a must see. You can easily spend a week there. The last morning on the extension you will have the same tour as the included tour when on the ship (you’ll have the bus tour around town before you board). This gives you an extra day of sightseeing instead of another travel day. I also recommend Barcelona Day Tours for your free day there. Family run and excellent guides. 17. Congrats 🎈🎉 It’s Explorers’ Lounge, plural possessive.
  18. Not only is it free but there are also irons and ironing boards in the laundry room.
  19. Yes, that is the tour. The early tour will leave you at the palace about 45-60 minutes before the changing of the guard. Plenty of time for a restroom break, shopping, and to line up to watch the changing of the guard. As I stated in my write-up, we bought a combination palace tour and Oceanographic Institute tour, went back to the ship for lunch, then walked back up to the palace and stopped at the Institute on the way back. We didn't go to the Casino but we still hit the jackpot. To get to the top of The Rock requires taking a series of escalators and elevators. If you take a look of the picture I took of the ship from the top of The Rock, that gives you an idea of the change in altitude. Be sure to pay attention during the tour because if you take a wrong turn on the way back there are a LOT of stairs to navigate. This is taken from the botanical gardens looking past the Institute, with the parking structure at the bottom. The ship docks right around the bend. That is the sidewalk you take way down there:
  20. Out last cruise listed Monaco as a tender port but we actually docked there. We walked back and forth to the ship twice. It's a great port. Here is my write-up https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2927474-almost-live-viking-sky-mediterranean-odyssey-april-2023/page/2/#comment-65245954
  21. On our last cruise the volume was limited so low that you could not hear any of the recorded lectures. The live lectures and performances were not limited in any way, only the recordings.
  22. You’re bringing them along to show how you’re spending their inheritance? 😉
  23. For some background, here is a 2008 NPR interview that predicted the future expansion and climate change would combine to produce the exact situation we are seeing today. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=87851345
  24. It’s part of my writeup for my Almost Live Journey to Antiquities in a previous thread. It’s a picturesque bus ride along the coast to the cape and about 45 minutes at the site. We took it because we had mistakenly double booked the Acropolis (the Acropolis Experience when onboard is identical to what you are given on the Classic Greece extension). Cape Sounion was the only other available tour that took us somewhere we had not yet been. It was an ok tour. We were a bit jaded after our previous three day adventure.
