wow my nephew worked at restaurant when he was 14 as bus boy he only worked Fri & sat nights He used to get $40 in tips each night plus his wage & dinner LOL Times have changed

the gratuities go to Waitstaff & housekeeping dept Bar & butlers have their own gratuity pool Other staff kitchen maintenance security / Captain/officers are salaried employees

I usually put the laundry in check the timer & my watch then go off until a few minutes before it is supposed to be finished Put things in the dryer & do the same check timer check watch If you choose to sit there & wait there are soft drinks & a tv & sofa

per cabin Concierge level & up

I think multi segment cruises you need to upgrade again or decline I know some have opted out after one segment as it was more port intensive & they would not be drinking enough to breakeven I agree they could have given more notice to those continuing on to the next sailing & at least given them the lower rate Will see what other changes are in the works for 2023

The letter you posted did not say it was mandatory to upgrade so during the next segment just don't upgrade then see how much you drink outside of the House select package it probably will not be $648 USD

I have not earned points when booking with other cruise lines so doubt Viking would count If I upgrade before the flight with A/C we get points just on the upgrade portion of the fare

well they have been collecting passports of Canadians & other Nationalities for years on cruises out of the USA They can clear Immigration in other Countries without pax having to line up for a F2F Some you still have to do the F2F but some it is far easier if the Purser has your passport ready for inspection If you are worried just refuse to give it to them then get up every morning very early to meet with the Officials

So you are saying the crew get no tips unless you hand it to them personally?? I have heard they do get a share of all gratuities whether is comes via O or from the daily amount added some of that pool goes in the crew fund for parties/awards/bereavement fund We do get the PPG via O but we also tip extra to some staff We are not leaving tips on the table after meals we are not running around tipping every staff member we encounter the gratuity that is tacked onto drinks is more than fair IMO so we do not feel the need to tip more we may only have 1 or 2 drinks a day so no favourite bartender to make happy anyway as another tipping thread emerges just do what works for you

I hated the envelope method bad in the old days Prefer they just add the tips in the fare or at least on the account then I can give extra to some staff that went above & beyond Personal choice

since you a locked into the OLife perk at least for the next cruise do not upgrade that is not locked in you can still opt out If you drink more that 3 drinks outside lunch/dinner then you have to do the math Buy something ashore for your cabin or just pay as you go for other bar drinks JMO

as long as you are onboard 90 mins before sailing You will be OK I would plan to be there 2 hr prior to sailing time at the latest on embarkation day

College games may be a major event in the USA but not sure if it would be worth it for the cruise lines Just saying Final games for World Cup/Super bowl /World Series Sometime some Olympic games JMO
