  1. Something to consider is most casino people aren't cruising on free rooms. Why give away the profits needlessly? The casinos will still make money. If spending money is the consideration for free cabins, how about free cabins for those who actually pay for cabins? Or drinks? Or specialty dining? Or spa treatments? Or shore excursions? Or anything else on the ship?
  2. So then same day bookings are still possible.
  3. We did basically a private 50 Shades of Lemon tour here. Not cheap, but I'd do it again. and again. The tour description... Discover the Amalfi Coast and its golden treasure, its majesty, the Lemon! You will have a relaxing drive through the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, one of the most scenic drives in the world, where you will have the chance to stop for photos. You will visit Ravello, that unlike most of the other towns of the area, is located atop a hill. This small village is famous for its gardens with spectacular views and its thrivign cultural scene. Do not miss the opportunity to visit Villa Cimbrone or Villa Rufolo, or simply enjoy your time there while sipping a coffee in the local piazzetta. You will stop in Amalfi, where you will have time to stroll around or splurge on shopping of handmade Amalfi paper, bottles of local limoncello, and of course ceramics. Visit the historic centre or the striking Cathedral that bears Moorish influences. You will visit one of the oldest lemon groves in the area where, together with a local guide, you will discover everything about this golden treasure! You will learn how Limoncello is made, have a tasty appetizer and a full course lunch where the main ingredient will be lemon! You will have a fresh fish appetizer, followed by 2 different pastas and a then a main entrée of fresh fish. Everything will be prepared with the fresh citrus fruits of the Amalfi Coast. You will then finish this scrumptious lunch with a dessert, the famous “Delizia al Limone”, paired with the Limoncello you prepared during your visit!
  4. These days, in general, in the US, probably true. It depends on the deadline for the ship to turn in a passenger manifest. But the day before should still be possible, if the cruise line allows.
  5. Of course casinos can make money The reality on slots include not all machines are being played or are operational, some people are taking up space without playing at all, others are slow rolling to get their 15 drinks on. Some people sit and Facebook all day with only an occasional pull. Cruise ship odds are horrible, but they are still probably paying at least 80% back. and that's before the cost of perks.

  7. Numbers, please. Casinos come in all shapes and sizes. Some cruise lines don't have any at all. Less than half of the Carnival Cruise Line fleet have non-smoking casino annexes. Which arguably are still an experiment. The main casinos likely easily dwarf the annexes on a per sq foot revenue basis.
  8. Keep trying. Maybe up to the last minute. There are always no shows.
  9. I'd like to see the data from Carnival you used to come up with that conclusion, while reminding others that revenue does not mean profit. Every penny the casino gives away for perks or whatever educes profit. Square footage on a cruise ship is not free. It can be argued that most revenue is derived from selling cabins.
  10. Which department eliminated the $25?

  12. Not sure if it is or not, but I'm going to pretend that is Stromboli
  13. By the time we finished lunch, even more buses had shown up and crowds were growing. Glad it was almost time to return to the ship.
  14. We don't know anything about Carnival Corp components, including whether or not the casino pays for rooms or other comps, or how much. Each Carnival component is run as a separate business and Corp expects each to turn a profit. It is absurd to try to lump them together and say it is all the same company. That isn't how a legitimate business operates. I get almost daily emails from the casino. Not interested in "free" inside staterooms or Australia, and it seems like most cruises are a year or more out. Clearly Carnival doesn't lose money on cabins or they would have been out of business a long time ago. I think it is also clear that there are cutbacks in casino offers, and more competition for those cabins.
  15. Bummer. Good to know. I had though about visiting the zoo, as well. Our ship tour for the cable car and Landing Museum was canceled for lack of people. Surprising since it was the anniversary of D-Day. Ended up with Uber to the museum and cable car back. Then another Uber back to the shuttle boats. Still much less than the ship tour and no lines. We had to hurry to get to the top, because I did notice the museum had an annoying habit of closing for lunch and I didn't want to rush through it.
  16. You are correct to not risk giving your Mother Covid. Too many people only care about themselves. While perhaps possible, I doubt you would catch covid again so soon. The Legend cruise was exhausting if you had a tour in all ports. We did. It took a few days before life returned to normal and we weren't sick. Maybe Carnival would let you move the Splendor cruise to a different ship and date? I learned a long time ago not to schedule cruises too close to each other. A lesson I still forget from time to time. Personally, I would say suck it up, buttercup, and go. I would try. I can sleep when I'm dead.
