  1. @canuck742 call HAL to book the bus tour - it is well worth it and is usually included with the various packages. Once you finish that you will have all afternoon to hike. There are numerous trails from the Visitor Center where you can elect to be dropped off at the end of the “ bus tour”. HAL runs a shuttle continuously from the visitor center to the lodges during daylight hours, it may run later but do check. Here are the hiking trails https://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisit/dayhiking.htm
  2. I agree. I like the model of a base fare then a menu of options. Everyone values different aspects of travel and there is no right or wrong. I read a lot of people discussing butlers, luxury and so on and I simply don’t require that nor do I want to pay for it. I would rather travel very often than have a butler.
  3. It is likely a browser setting instead of the blocker. Browsers have fairly sophisticated settings now and if they are set high it can cause grief.
  4. My sister was married in Scotland on a Texas marriage license, no problem at all. People do this all the time. Instead of relying on all of us your friends should call HAL and ask.
  5. It could be your blocker. I have a single website, my financial site, that I need to turn off my cross website blocking - not even for the whole site just to view the bonds available- weird, right? At least they warn you and give you workaround instructions
  6. @NorbertsNiece have the pools and hot tubs been open? We are packing now for the cruise next Sunday
  7. You can find the audio tours for the art on the Oosterdam here https://www.theinsidecabin.com/holland-america-audio-art-tours/ oops , I see someone else already posted. Twice won't hurt.
  8. Exactly. Most wedding ceremonies are symbolic. A license must be purchased to make it a “marriage” . They don’t sell those onboard😂 nor do they sell those at the church at home.
  9. I wish I could figure this out, I find them through google search. Hoping someone else has better ideas
  10. Are these maps being delivered to your stateroom? Or are you picking them up on shore? I miss the days when HAL delivered or at least had available the port maps. Few of my cruises since 2022 had them or if they did one had to know to go to the port talk to grab one. I now rely on AllTrails, Whatsinport and other web sources. This morning while planning my cruise next week I realized Google has those user created maps and downloaded quite a few nice city walking maps from there.
  11. Yes, @ontheweb and I discussed above there are issues and they are fine to note here but too complex to discuss here. I was a self-employed person operating a profitable business which paid taxes of every ilk.
  12. Thanks for that correction. I guess it depends on where one wants to be licensed as some regions do not recognize all marriages
  13. Can one make MDR reservations at that podium also? My guarantee does not allow choice until embarkation
  14. They need to get the license before or after but they can get married on the cruise
  15. I am a bit belligerent about encouraging people to start a business 😉
  16. Perhaps. My point is if you do own a business there may be legitimate ways to write it off or secondly create a profitable business to write off travel. Some YouTubers are doing that and some are taking free cruises. As to those who are simply taking the free cruises there are tax issues also but I am not versed on those issues
  17. I was going to mention that aspect but that is complicated. I was in business (30 years) and some of those YouTubers are in business just as many reporters are in business. It can be done as long as you mind the tax code. businesses can write off travel expenses and there is no rule saying you must drive or fly
  18. I did claim a cruise or two as a business expense a few times - it was an economic transportation method to visit some of the mineral markets I wanted to access. Yes I did come home with a suitcase of collectible mineral samples for resale if a YouTuber is reporting from a cruise and generates income from that video that YouTuber can most definitely write off the cruise as a business expense.
  19. There was a major change overnight with some nifty new features. I hope this marks a halt in tinkering for a little while. Log in seems to be working and I am not getting the error messages. I was able to complete a variety of tasks without being expelled🫨
  20. Our first year in retirement,2023, was spent house projects so the house is in tip top shape when we leave for our travels. We also “filled the gaps” taking as late of 4-6 day self-driving tours in our region. We managed to stay fairly busy until the past few months. We have a very busy travel schedule for 2024 currently with 140 days already booked cruises and likely will also do some of our self-driving weekends. This year our tours focused on regional history prehistoric to modern. Next years self driving will focus on visiting CCC state parks. We likely will settle down and engage more in our local community after 2024
  21. Those do not operate inside the park, those operate outside of the park. The rest stop periods in the park are also regulated. If you want to go to Denali where the wildlife is truly spectacular you need to go on the bus. If you don’t want the National Park your best bet would be to just rent a car and tour the region independently. i wanted to visit the park so I was fine with the bus. It is what it is
