  2. From the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships: Travel Agent Recommendations There shall be no third-party recommendation (whether positive or negative in content) of travel agencies on any forums within Cruise Critic. General discussions regarding the TYPE of AGENCY to be used to purchase a cruise will be allowed, as long as no recommendations for any source of purchase are posted.Touting of your personal cruise agent or cruise line "personal cruise consultant" (or any other venue by which you purchase a cruise) is not allowed on our message boards. Postings that contain "tell them John sent you" will be removed without notice. This means you should not ask about someone's travel agent, nor should you respond in kind. Offering to email someone your travel agent's name or info is also not allowed, nor is asking members to email you for the information.Cruise Critic will remove violations of the "third-party recommendation" guideline without warning. Additional posts may result in permanent suspension of your posting privileges. Advertising is Not Allowed Cruise Critic has strict guidelines prohibiting blatant advertising, commercial sales and solicitation posts on all of our message boards. Our Cruise Community is meant to be an exchange of advice and tips where cruisers can talk about their travels -- not a marketplace for advertising and selling services. There are thousands of cruise professionals online and if we didn't insist on a non-solicitation policy the cruise boards would be very quickly overrun with nothing but ads. Cruise Critic defines advertising as an individual or company's attempt to generate business or other commercial enterprise, either directly or indirectly, by using our Cruise Board. Solicitation includes, but is not limited to, requests to be E-mailed, the posting of phone numbers for your business, constantly mentioning that you are in the travel business, and the referring to or posting of one's own Web site address. There shall be no third-party recommendation (whether positive or negative in tone) of travel agencies on any forums within Cruise Critic. General discussions regarding the TYPE of AGENCY to be used to purchase a cruise will be allowed, as long as no recommendations for any source of purchase are posted. Touting of your personal cruise agent or cruise line "personal cruise consultant" (or any other venue by which you purchase a cruise) is not allowed on our message boards. Postings that contain "tell them John sent you" will be removed without notice. This means you should not ask about someone's travel agent, nor should you respond in kind. Offering to email someone your travel agent's name or info is also not allowed, nor is asking members to email you for the information. It also means you cannot post links to travel agencies, no matter what the specific reason. Cruise Critic will remove violations of the "third-party recommendation" rule without warning. Additional posts will result in permanent suspension of your posting privileges. BTW, this means no cryptic hints either. Also: Do you sell cruises; are you sponsored by the cruise lines; do the cruise lines pay you to say good things about them? Cruise Critic is not a travel agency; we do not sell cruises. We do not rate or recommend travel agencies. Our mission is to help travelers plan the best possible cruise vacation. We are not sponsored by any cruise line. Like most websites, we do accept advertising and, at times, partner with cruise lines for contests, events (such as Meet & Mingle parties). At Cruise Critic our mission is to provide balanced, unbiased reporting and take our journalistic credibility seriously. It is central to this mission for the site to provide you, the reader and our members, with an accurate and reliable resource on all aspects of cruising, and we do so by pairing our editorial content with thousands of reviews from our members of the site. Cruise Critic accepts advertising, but it remains strictly impartial from an editorial standpoint -- something which is made clear to all advertisers.
  3. Hello @blacklab16 and welcome back to Cruise Critic! Thank you for your new thread on the Ask a Cruise Question forum! However, it is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. Your inquiry concerns a specific cruise line and is off topic there. To help you out, your new thread has been moved to the Holland America Line forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that are sailing HAL frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you. I suggest you use the Follow feature on any threads where you are interested in the new replies. That way you will not have to go looking to see if there are new posts because they will come looking for you as notifications. If you need information on how to do it, please click here How to: Follow Topics & Forums (Subscribed Threads/Forums Info). Be sure to find and post on the Roll Call for your cruise. Please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call. 10. Regarding the Cruise Critic message board Message feature, it is available for use by Administrators & Hosts ONLY. We can use it with each other and to members. The Message feature is disabled for members and has been I think since Cruise Critic was part of AOL over twenty-five years ago. I do know for sure it was that way when I joined Cruise Critic in 2005. In the olden days when the Cruise Critic message board used vBulletin software, if you and another member had your own registered identities for certain instant messaging networks and placed the info in your Cruise Critic profiles, you would then be able to contact each other via those networks. Waaaay back then you could click on User CP or Quick Links then Edit Profile and then scroll down to the Optional Information - All information will be viewable by other forum members section. There you would see the following: Instant Messaging You may enter your registered identity for the instant messaging networks if you would like other visitors to be able to contact you using that medium. ICQ Number AIM Screen Name MSN Messenger Handle Yahoo! Messenger Handle Skype Name Once you entered your registered identity info of one of those networks and clicked the Save Changes button back then, your instant messaging network logo would then appear in all your Cruise Critic posts with your join date & post count. You and other Cruise Critic members with the same instant messaging network would be able to click the logos appearing on Cruise Critic posts to contact each other via the network. However, those days are loooong gone now that Invision Community software has been used by the Cruise Critic message board since October 2018. Hope this additional information (and little history lesson from Memory Lane 😀) will be helpful! Host Kat

  13. @zumbagold For desktops and laptops, the Search feature is upper right of the thread or forum. It is the oval with the little magnifying glass under your user name. You click the little down arrow to see the various locations. Make sure you have used the correct location in the drop-down menu for your search. Here is a clip of my choices: And sometimes you need to enter multiple words surrounded by quotation marks - like, "Miami hotels" - you will get different results than if you entered just the two words. This is because quotation marks are used for phrase searching. That way your results will just be posts containing the phrase "Miami hotels" and not ALL the posts containing the word Miami as well as ALL the posts containing the word hotels. Also, I know you know what you are looking for... but sometimes I try to think in the way someone else would have posted the information. Then use word phrases with quotation marks as mentioned above.

  17. Hello @scott5003 and welcome to the Cruise Critic message boards! Thank you for your new topic on the Cruise Blogs & Websites forum! 21. Hello @canaderek and welcome to the Cruise Critic message boards! If you have stopped wearing a watch and rely on your mobile phone for the time, know how to manually set the time zone on your phone. Sometimes ship time and port time are not the same. Pay close attention to the usual signage where you depart the ship showing the ship's time for passenger return. You do not want to be a pier runner watching the other passengers waving bye-bye to you as the ship sails without you! The Cruise Critic website and message boards are a great resource for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list for the various message board forums. Read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. I also want to let you know about the Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship and departure date. 24. @MizMoon The dreaded Comic Sans font is severely hard to read by some members. I changed the font for you. From the Posting and You! section in the Guidelines: Rich Text & Graphic Images The use of these features on our message boards can greatly enhance your online Cruise Board experiences. However, postings that are difficult to read, too BIG or too small, too light in color, etc., may be returned to you so that you may repost. Hope this will be helpful! Host Kat
  25. Actually, a Report needed to have been made for a quicker response. Click here: How To: Report a Post As stated in the Guidelines: "We encourage you to utilize the reporting system built into the board system; you'll find a Report a Post icon located in the upper right hand corner of the posting. Use it! We will review the report and take appropriate action." Remember, since Cruise Critic does not review messages before they are posted and cannot read through the thousands of messages posted each day, we depend on all Cruise Critic members for help. Especially for problems NOT related to being off topic or violations of the Guidelines. A User Reported Content list of reports is generated for review to all non-paid volunteer Hosts and paid Administrators. The reports will automatically show the important information they MUST have such as the forum name, thread title or post in addition to your message. The non-paid volunteer Hosts or paid Administrators will review your Report post report when they can. I say "when they can" because all e-mails and Report post reports to Cruise Critic are answered in order of receipt. With almost two million members and some sending e-mails and reports 24/7 from all over the world, please be patient for any action. Also, please remember the Hosts are non-paid volunteers and work the boards when their real life permits. Most paid Administrators work regular weekday business hours. I hope all this information will be helpful!
