  1. Hello to all, particularly those familiar with cruising from Southampton DH and I will be staying at the Premiere Inn West Quay prior to a British Isles cruise on the Regal Princess... is it feasible to walk the the pier on embarkation day with 1 rolling suitcase each? Are there sidewalks? I know that taxi's are available and reasonably priced, , but sometimes it's faster to walk if the distance isn't great
  2. Was the bubble and squeak dish actually called bubble and squeak on the menu? ( I understand that it did not appeal to you, it would not have appealed to me either)LOL I was on the Sky at the end of January, and although there were a number of choices that I took a pass on, there were plenty of choices that were quite good. We had the "new" menus. Duck L'orange, Beef Wellington, also Fettuchini Alfredo was not on the menu every night, but they would make it for you if you asked. Lobster was on the menu the night we didn't go to the dining room.
  3. I was on the Sky in January, did not have the plus package...Mojitos and martinis and many other cocktails were $9 to $12 plus 20% tip each. Specialty coffee's were $3.75 each plus tip. For us, it was better to pay individually as we are not big drinkers and we are fine with tap water and tea from the buffet. I think that there were 6 drinks on my folio for the week and a few specialty coffees. The plus package does cover bottled water, specialty coffees, tips and internet for one device as well as a so for many it is a good choice for many.
  4. These were taken on the Sky Princess Jan 28 sailing. I was happy with the new menus.. photos are of a dessert souffle with vanilla sauce, other photos are Pork Tenderloin, Yankee Pot Roast, and a seafood appetizer in a puff pastry crust. I m not sure what the pink dessert is called but it was delicious. I did not get photos of the duck, or prime rib, but both were delicious.
  5. Hi there...thank you for taking the time to post your review..it was a pleasure to read..Agree that the Regal is very nice ship... Im particularly interested in how the bidding process worked for you. When was your bid accepted? Would you bid again?
  6. I was able to drive directly home from the port, so did not need to use a hotel..so no experience .... but my next cruise is in Europe, so if I get unlucky again, return home will be more complicated. I wanted a travel policy that offer primary coverage for urgent medical care, medivac and also trip interruption. I went to a few on line trip insurance websites and was able to compare policies and covereage on line. Once I had narrowed my focus to three possible companies, I used the chat feature to ask the agent a couple of questions. The company that I used was insuremytrip.com
  7. I was on a 7 day cruise on the Sky at the end of January, my first after 5 years. I am vaccinated and boosted, and had not had covid before. I felt a little off on Thursday afternoon day 6 of the cruise. At that point I thought that I had gotten too much sun in Mexico, however, as the night progressed the i developed a cough and sore throat and felt sicker. My husband obtained a test from a friend the next morning and we both tested posative. We did alert the medical center. They sent a team member up to check on us an to do their own test, which confirmed the posative result. We were advised to quarantine in the cabin and to call them if necessary, and to order room service for our means. We were able to order from the dining room menu. Later on, a letter was slipped under the door indicating that each of us would receive a future cruise credit of $44.00 each, which would be applied to our Captain Circle accounts within 30 days. The next morning was disembarkation day. We were allowed a room service breakfast because we could not go to the buffet...at 8:00 AM Princess security escorted us off the ship, and we were in our car driving home by 8:15. Princess staff was professional and kind while this was going on. Covid can be very serious for some people, however we were very lucky and recovered quickly without lasting issues. We have a big anniversary cruise scheduled at the end of May, and considered cancelling, but have decided to go ahead, but plan to do more to mitigate the risk. We only booked shore excursions and hotels that are cancellable, just in case we need to quarantine again. I reserved table for 2 for dining. (We love meeting people, but on our last cruise 2 people at our table told us they had sore throats and didn't come to dinner one night, so we think we may have picked it up there) We plan to mask in crowded areas as well as tour busses and elevators and on the airplane. I also selected a trip insurance policy that covers medivac, emergency medical care and reimbursement for quarantine hotel just in case we do get it again. My big takeaway from the experience is that Covid might be less of a threat than previously, but it is not over quite yet. .
  8. I have cruised on the Crown 4 times, most recently in 2011, so some things may have changed, however, ..I liked the nice promanade deck, lots of outdoor spaces and the aft pool has a beautiful wake view. I found the food just fine. I used to go up to Skywalkers on sea days to read a book and look at the ocean...beautiful views...would not hesitate to book the Crown again. More recent cruises were on the Regal and Sky, both beautiful royal class ships but fewer outdoor areas, smaller cabins and balconies and tiny walking deck. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice
  9. iI didn't want to wear a lanyar either, so I put the medalion on a silver link bracelet that I wore all week. The medallion is waterproof, so did no need to take it off to swim or shower. My friend put hers on a watchband type holder that she got on a previous cruise with a different line. My husband carried his in his pocket,
  10. I was on the Sky in January and many Vegan options were available in the buffet. I took photos for my vegan daughter
  11. The good news is that Fettunccini Alfredo is still available. It's not on the menu except as an appetizer some days, but you can ask for it any day and they will make it. My husband had it on the Sky last month a couple of times,
  12. I love the gelato on board the Sky and Regal. Sugar free sorbetto was available every day last month on the Sky. I didn't try it, but noted that it was there for my sugar free companions. On past cruises on the Regal I had no problem ordering a simple hot fudge sundae, and my friend ordered banana splits and was delighted. I would not go for the silly desserts with bottles and lollipops on top, but to each their own.
  13. I sailed the Sky Princess three weeks ago. I think we had the "new menu's" The menu's changed every night and there were plenty of options. A few items were available every day, like salmon and chicken breast, and lasagna. One of our friends ordered the lasagna 4 nights out of 7 because he liked it so much. Beef wellington was offered on two different nights and it was delicious. I enjoyed duck one night. There were a lot of fish dishes, and a nice prime rib on the the final night of the cruise. Fettuncini Alfredo was offered as an appetizer on a few nights. My husband asked to have a dinner portion because he didn't care for any of the entree selections, and they obliged. my husband had a different kind of creme brulee every night, and it was outstanding. Chocolate souffe with warm vanilla sauce, pork tenderloin, yankee pot roast, and a seafood in puff pastry appetizer are in the photos. We tried to get a ressie for the Crown Grill, but they were all booked up, but I honestly didn't miss it because we were happy with the food and service in Cielo.
  14. Great question! I could not find any reference to a lifetime cap of 50 in the policy documents, but just to be sure I will call and ask Lots of different policies out there and they vary a great deal from state to state and company to company. I don't understand why it needs to be so complicated, but here we are. The name of my plan is AARP Medicare Advantage Choice (PPO) Plan Coverages outside the US are as follows for my plan: Urgent care: $40 copay ($0 copay for urgently needed services outside the United States) per visit Emergency care : $90 copay ($0 copay for emergency care outside the United States) per visit Our plan covers worldwide emergency and urgently needed services outside the United States under the following circumstances: emergency services, including emergency or urgently needed care and emergency ambulance transportation from the scene of an emergency to the nearest medical treatment facility. Transportation back to the United States from another country is not covered. $0 copayment for worldwide coverage for emergency services outside of the United States.
  15. I purchased the Princess policy underwritten by Nationwide/ for my upcoming British Isles cruise, paid for standard was upgraded to platinum. Medical coverage 20K/ and medivac 75K is kind of low, however, my medicare advantage plan covers emergency care anywhere in the world, so there would be additional coverage there if it is needed. I dont really care about coverage for trip delay or baggage delay as we can self insure for that, but with Covid still being around, I wanted the CFAR option, and the price for the policy was reasonable This is what works for me, but everyone's situation is different. I would encourage people who shop for a policy to use the comparison tools that on line agencies provide to compare coverages and prices, and to read the policy provisions so that you understand the coverages and policy provisions
  16. My cruise on the Sky departs from pier 21 but returns to pier 2. Anyone had experience with this? If I park at the pier 2 garage, will there be a shuttle from pier 2 to pier 21 on embarkation day? or perhaps it would be easier to park off site? I need to drop someone off at FLL for an 11:00 AM flight, so we will be doing early walk off with our luggage Please be advised that embarkation for your Sky Princess cruise on Saturday, January 28, 2023 will take place at Terminal 21 in Port Everglades, and your disembarkation on Saturday, February 4 will be at Terminal 2. Complimentary shuttles will be available for guests who need to return to Terminal 21, while post-cruise hotel and airport transfers will depart directly from Terminal 2
  17. I have a couple of cruises booked in 2023 and thought I might purchase a gift card for on board expenses and/or tips. If the card has an unused balance at the end of the cruise, is the balance returned to use on a future cruise or booking? I read the fine print on the AARP offer, and could not see this addressed. Also, does it matter if you have a physical card or ecard?
  18. It happens often with Princess and NCL.. not a surprise since Im logged into my account when I browse.. If I'm not interested in booking I just let it go to voicemail If I am interested, then I take the call to see if the agent can improve the price or terms..
  19. I have done the chefs table twice....called the dine line once on board, and was contacted to confirm a couple of days later.. this was 11 years ago, so Im sure there have been changes, but I enjoyed it a lot. Both times the fee was $75.00 per person and included wine pairings for each course. My husband is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, so Chef's Table was not for him, so I went ahead on my own. This was fine as our group of 12 included another solo diner, and everyone was very nice. Im glad I experienced it, but on more recent cruises, have gone to the Crown Grill and enjoyed that just as much. If you have an interest, I would go for it
  20. I sailed the Regal in 2017 and at that time you could purchase ice cream in Gelatos with your new grounds coffee card ..i don't remember if the cost was one or 2 punches from the specialty coffee. My brother in law used his card for a banana split.....i don't know if its still allowed
  21. I just booked the Regal British Isles cruise in May and the ship's tour from LeHave to the Normandy Beaches is already sold out and there is no wait list, sigh. I had read about an independent tour operator Overlord Tours on our roll call and also on a cruise cruise member review , so I plan to book a the 9B tour. Here is the link https://www.overlordtour.com/product/tours-from-cruise-ports-9b/
  22. I will soon be embarking on the Sky Princess on a standard fare, no plus package. On pre Medallion voyages, I purchased the New grounds coffee card and received a punch card to present for specialty coffees and brewed coffees and specialty teas. Can someone tell me how this works with the Medallion? Do you still get a punch card, or do they electronically add the coffee card to the app?
  23. I have done the Chef's table twice, once on the CB and once on the Crown in 2010 and 2011. I enjoyed it very much... at the time the price was $75.00. It was a special meal presented beautifully, and the wine pairings with each course allowed me the opportunity to try some wines that I would not have an opportunity to have otherwise. This was 11 years ago. They did serve a variety of dishes from a set menu and it was festive and fun. Here are photos of the menus that I saved5C88CDF2-854E-4F62-93D6-7BE654536EB8.heic5C88CDF2-854E-4F62-93D6-7BE654536EB8.heic5C88CDF2-854E-4F62-93D6-7BE654536EB8.heic5C88CDF2-854E-4F62-93D6-7BE654536EB8.heic5C88CDF2-854E-4F62-93D6-7BE654536EB8.heic DC4D31EF-73D7-4A6F-9057-68D9AD0465E2.heic
  24. I booked a BD balcony on the Sky and was upgraded the same day to a BB on a different deck. Don't know why ...when I received the email I called in to ask for my old cabin back. This was the first time in 7 Princess cruises that I had ever received an upgrade.
