  1. While staying on the same ship is easier, there is something to be said for jumping ship so you can experience an Edge class ship - they are very, very different than other Celebrity ships IMHO. Some of the differences I love and others not so much. Edge class definitely has a very big WOW factor, and they tend to get the best entertainment options. It's not really that hard to change. We did something similar last December - Apex to Reflection. Other than the small hassle of packing and unpacking again, the biggest issue (and it was not that big a deal) was that it was confusing trying to find the shuttle bus which would take us from one pier to the other (this was in Fort Lauderdale). No one seemed to know where to tell us to go. We finally found someone who could direct us to the bus. When the bus parked at the new pier, we were unable to enter the boarding area until boarding started for everyone. So we were all left standing outside until then. Ok if the weather is nice I guess and you don't have to use the facilities unless you like Portapotties. I would have thought Celebrity could have come up with a better idea of how to handle these side to side cruises as they are not all that uncommon. So the best plan is to stay on the ship until you have to leave, or the latest time you can to catch the shuttle bus. But at the end of the day, I certainly wouldn't let that stop me from doing it again. As far as staying on the same ship instead - have done that many times as well. But we are older and more into just relaxing and chilling than caring about activities onboard. If you are very into the shows, for example, the production ones will be the same on each cruise. The guest entertainers may or may not. The lounge entertainers often stay, but that varies. The menu is exactly the same, but there is so much variety that for me that is not a big deal. And there is nothing like relaxing on the last night of the first leg while most everyone else is thinking about packing and flights home!
  2. I agree, it should be noted somewhere on the Move Up information pages
  3. OMG stop! Just stop! I don't know if I can take more of these kinds of posts. We've gone from complaining about dress codes, and chair hogs, and whatever else and now we're down to berating the green beans. Where does it end?!?!?!
  4. I don't know why you think multipliers based on status are unfair (I think that's what you are saying?). It is a perk that comes with loyalty and people who have spent alot of time and money with Celebrity. Why shouldn't they have this perk? As long as it is known upfront to everyone that it is the process, I think it is fair. You can bid or not bid; your choice. In the past, it was the higher level CC members who got offers to upgrade, in fact sometimes as a freebee. At least this process allows everyone, at every level, to bid. And when all is said and done, the multipliers are so small, even at Zenith level, as to really make almost no difference at all. I really don't think an extra $10 or $15 added to my bid is going to be what pushes me into the win, although of course on a rare occasion that will be the case.
  5. I have never heard of any loyalty benefits being denied because of not booking directly with Celebrity. Could you please give us some specifics?
  6. I think that's a good guess, although apparently times are different based on where you live. In my area the Below Deck program on Bravo at that time is a repeat. The first new show appears to be very early in the morning the next day I think it is, at 2:30 am! Needless to say I am recording it.
  7. If you're in an inside cabin and get quarantined for 5+ days then how would you feel about them?
  8. Have you tried it? I thought it was ridiculous. Then I tried it once and I am hooked! Try it once if you haven't and then give it up if you don't like it.
  9. One thing I learned the hard way is if you have really bad reception in your cabin, you can report it to the IT guys and they can put a booster (or whatever the technical term is) in your cabin. They don't do this without a lot of convincing, so plead your case if need be. We had to do it once, and it significantly improved our reception. It is very true that some cabins are closer to the "whatever the term is" technical thingies and get better reception than others.
  10. Sometimes you can't win for losin' on these boards as the saying goes. Describe an issue or a problem and you are a complainer who is never satisfied. Defend Celebrity and you get called a Celebrity cheerleader.
  11. I guess it doesn't hurt to be extra careful, but have you ever heard of this happening?
  12. Thank you so much for the detailed info. He is renting a scooter and unfortunately won’t have a wheelchair with him. He can walk short distances with a walker but has diabetic neuropathy in his feet so is afraid to walk too far so his strength has deteriorated. I’ll check out the handicapped tours and see what his thoughts are. Thanks again
  13. First time traveling with a relative who needs to use a scooter. I understand San Juan might be very difficult to get around due to hills and cobblestone streets? I think St. Kitts has a nice little shopping area we can go to. I don't recall the port at Tortola - can anyone help with that? Secondly, are there taxi services or tour companies on these islands who could handle a disabled person using a scooter? He's never been to any of these islands and it would be nice if he could see them. The cruise line (Celebrity) has a very, very limited number of tours with accessibility.
  14. I saw that same post. I was on Summit a few weeks ago and we ordered off the MDR menu regularly. I can't prove it one way or another but I have to think that is wrong - perhaps their waiter was new or confused.
  15. No, they won't let you all board and IMHO to do so would be incredibly inconsiderate of those who are paying for the privilege of being in a suite as well as not fair to others who don't happen to have a relative in a suite trying to get them special favors. Maybe the right and most considerate thing to do is to change your cabin to the same kind of cabin as the rest of your group. That's something I certainly would do out of respect for my family members. And be advised that if you want them to dine with you in Luminae (and considering the young children and babies comment you won't make a lot of friends that way), they will need to pay each day, and then it will be based on availability which could be a problem given the size of your group. And they also aren't allowed in any other Retreat areas so hopefully you didn't plan on letting them in.
  16. The only part of your post I find somewhat offense with is how you feel the need to distinguish yourself as someone who paid full price rather than a move up. You have no idea how much people do or do not pay to move up and I'm not sure why it matters. It's akin to comparing someone who paid price "x" and then someone else got it cheaper at a sale and paid price "y", and then saying the first person should have more privilege. Not cool.
  17. Been on many Alaska sailings and I don't recall ever being able to see the land most of the time from either side of the ship except in the Inside Passage.
  18. I've sailed more than 70 times (67 on Celebrity) and IMHO it is just unpredictable overall. In some ports it might be more likely one way or another but we would need to know which port to answer the question
  19. I don't know of any. People have reported being moved due to setting aside quarantine cabins, but usually it was a different cabin or a move up, and certainly not a downgrade from a suite
  20. I can tell you for me it is because generally speaking the Celebrity ships are larger than the upscale ships. They have more venues and activities, and I am much less likely to get sea sick (which I suffer from) on a larger ship than a smaller one.
  21. This is very interesting and disturbing. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with all of the "free" cruises offered. I don't know about this particular cruise but I know it applied to several Solstice sailings. Maybe the Blue Chip Club and the regular booking folks got things mixed up?? I would never take an offer like this and would be very, very upset if it was anything other than a request. I am of the mind that a VIP type person and/or group wanted a suite and none was available.
  22. I agree that they will do what they can to have your table available. They can't always hold it, especially on a full ship, but they will do their best. We used that method on our last sailing on Summit a few weeks ago and they did a great job, but there were times we had to wait 10-20 minutes.
  23. If the policy has changed, it has literally changed within the last couple of weeks. I seriously doubt that it has. There really would be no good reason. They share kitchens on M class ships. Obviously I am not onboard right now so can't say with 100% certainty but I highly doubt it has changed. If anything, Celebrity is bending over backwards these days to get and keep people on their ships so more than ever this doesn't make sense to me. But we'll see if anyone else reports a change.
  24. Totally not true. We have always done it on M class ships multiple times, and did it on a September Summit sailing that was full capacity. And I did not ever "push the issue". In fact, it was offered to us as an option before we even asked for it on our September cruise.
