  1. ok, chiefmatejrk this may be our one and only chance. when are you booked on the prima, and is the cruise the one that originates in iceland. inquiring minds want to know
  2. julig22. by the way, if you just want a glass of soda (or pop, depending on what part of the country you are from) it's free. i just prefer the can. also, if we book a suite, i can usually sweet talk the butler into bringing a few cans of soda to the cabin and leave them in the fridge. of course a $20 handshake doesnt hurt either (LOL)
  3. well, as previously stated, i am a vietnam vet, and one of the ports was cu chi, where i was stationed with the 25th infantry division. i wanted to take my wife and grandson to see where "papa" was 50 years before. for obvious reasons, i wanted to see hanoi. so no need to feel bad, the ports we did get to visit were amazing. i got to ride an elephant in Bancock. wow, that was great, all things being equal, i really couldnt complain. i also used the credit to book a 10 day cruise on a 2 bedroom suite on the epic the following year, hamburg to hamburg. again we took our grandson and a friend of his. they had a great time. by the way, the 50% reduction in fare took the price of a forward penthouse suite for 3 people down to less than $4,000
  4. if you dont want to be nickel and dimed, dont buy the nickel and dime stuff. i think, what i get when i book a cruise/cabin with ncl,is reasonable for the price i'm paying. no more/no less if i think something falls under the nickel/dime category, and i dont feel it's necessary, i dont buy it. only product that annoys be for paying extra is a "can" of soda. im addicted to cola (prefer pepsi, but those ncl days are gone, so im stuck with coke) for $3.00 per can. in all my posts, i seem to write like an ncl cheerleader. that's not totally correct, but for 13 years of cruising with them, and 24 cruises, (I dont know, maybe i'm just lucky, or have low expectations) i have found very little to complain about (other than soggy hamburger buns) the only actual disappointment we ever really had was the inaugural southeast asia cruise from hong kong to singapore. When we got on the ship we were advised that there were mechanical problems and we couldnt get to some ports. Taipei, hanoi and cambodia. As a vet, i wanted to see hanoi. In exchange for the missed ports, ncl offered the following: full refund, but we were already in hong kong and booked into a hotel in singapore 2 weeks later, so that wasnt an option, or, a refund of 1/2 the price of the cruise we were on, and 1/2 off any future cruise. we were in a suite with my wife and grandson, and my sister in law and her husband were in the adjoining suite, so to accept this offer was a no brainer. say what you will about nickel and dimes, ncl (imho) really stepped up to the plate to fix this one.
  5. ncl will probably just cancel the room if there is a no show. when you check in, you will get key cards consistent with your cabin. you or your mom wont be able to get the card for the other room. even if all goes well, i think it's a little tricky with what you want to do. why take the chance.
  6. sorry, your original post made it sound like you only booked the one room. regardless, enjoy your cruise. since you will still be getting perks that come with a suite, imo you will still have a great time
  7. i think your determining factors would be price, itinerary and specific cabin. all things being equal, i would pick the prima just because it's a new ship and i'd like to check out the bells and whistles. that being said, however, we've been on the epic twice and no real problems or complaints, although the have aft cabin suites leave a little to be desired
  8. dont pooh pooh the getaway!. we've been on most of the ncl ships in the past 13 years, and the getaway is by far and away our favorite. besides, even the ship didnt change, you, spouse, daughter and father would have gotten screwed up sleeping arrangements. my understanding is that there is only one bathroom, one bedroom and a pull out sofa. you'd have been better off booking the 2 bedroom suite
  9. ooh, very, very snarky! dnt hold back birdtravels, how do you really feel
  10. i usually book our own flights, we've flown l.a. to athens, london, venice, flown back from copenhagen, rome, etc. usually delta airlines, we've got a great flight to london in july on british airlines, coming back from stockholm same airline. went to panama non-stop from l.a. on copa airlines. never heard of them before, but it was non-stop both ways, and very reasonable fares. try a bunch of airlines with which you are familiar, i think in the long run you'll be happier with the outcome, and regardless of the price, i wouldnt trust ncl with my flights. if you truly have read most of the posts, there are to many horror stories to take the risk
  11. there is only 1 bed in the owners suite, the other is the pull out couch., i think tere is only 1 bathroom and shower also . if it's 4 adults, go for the 2 bedroom and fight about who gets the bigger bedroom
  12. hey good buddy, my wife and i do this a lot. but regardless, no one ever looks on the ticket when you get on the tour bus. you love ncl as much as i do, and know that as long as they get their $$$ they're happier than a pig in whatever. so it rea ly isnt necessary to swap names, just buy t he ticket and happily go on the tour
  13. you can also call the stateside concierge number ( i find that whenever we're in a haven about 2-3 weeks prior to sailing, they call us and ask for any special requests. just give them your reservation number and i'm sure they'll be more than happy/willing to send out the updated tags. by the way, weren't the pretentious twits part of the british invasion of the 60's. i think i still have one of there albums (lol)
  14. just remember, whatever bid you place gets multiplied X2
  15. yes. if youre in a haven, you get the haven perks.
  16. dear travelguy!. we've been on most of the ncl fleet in the last 13 years. 24 cruises and counting. we've been on the epic twice. i've posted my opinion(s) re. this ship at another CC post. once again, i find the epic is no better or worse than other ships in the ncl fleet. sure, it may not have all the bells and whistles of their newer ships, but as ive said before, "personally scarlet i could give a d**m. i'm 75 years old im not water sliding, go-karting, excessively drinking, etc. i enjoy cagney's, moderno, teppanyaki. ive never met an ncl employee who was not less than curteous, helpful, and hardworking im on cruise to enjoy the mere fact of being on a cruise. your post suggest that some people will never be happy, satisfied, regardless of the conditions. please remember that you have a 1st world problem. cant you just enjoy being on a cruise and sailing to exotic places? not all of them will be 100% attractive or interesting, but we've been in some absolutely amazing ports, from hong kong to hamburg, copenhagan to curacao, etc. by they way so no one posts about no cruises from these ports, im merely quoting the places we've been to with ncl. so, travel guy, i'm certain this post will not change your perspective. but i'm sure ncl will survive in it's entirety, if you take a break and cruise with another line. my wife and i however will continue to cruise (happily) with ncl. FYI, we're currently booked on back to back from london to copenhagen, compenhagen to stockholm july 27th thru aug 15 on the dawn, and a 21 day cruise from capetown to barcelona next march also on the dawn. if somethjing comes up interesting on the epic, we would not hesitate to book that ship once again. so,as the immortal sly stone once said "different strokes etc"
  17. been on the epic twice, both times in a haven suite. 1st was aft. youre right, the cabin layout is a major pain in the a**. the circular bed takes up almost the entire cabin, and you have to sit down to let the other person pass. the bathroom layout is a joke. and whoever designed these cabins should be whipped with a wet noodle. other than that, i disagree with everything that has been negatively posted about the epic. the 2nd time we took our grandson and his friend on a 10 day from hamburg. we had the 2 bedroom suite, the boys had a fantastic time, we hardly saw them, they were so wrapped up with other teens they met, the ports were interesting, and a 2 bedroom haven suite speaks for itself. consequently, other than my ongoing gripe about soggy hamburger buns, i have no problems sailing with/on the epic again. whoever is contemplating booking on the epic, it aint as bad as some people have made it sound, i'm sure you will enjoy the entire experience, and since we've been on almost the entire ncl fleet, i can say without a shadow of a doubt, the epic is no better or worse than any other ship in the ncl fleet, other than the getaway, which is in an amazing class of its own, and far and away our favorite
  18. what my wife and i have learned, in 24 cruises with ncl, ( we were on the bliss last july. hellova ship), is to just cruise for the shear joy of cruising. if there are 2100 kids on board so be it. i escape to my balcony, get a cold beer and read my kindle. by the way, regardless of the amount of fellow passengers, if you book a haven or a suite, you can escape from the hustle and bustle even easier. ive always maintained that we choose ncl, because it gives us the best bang for our buck, both pricewise and with their multi-varied itinerary. i'm 75 years old, and have been with ncl to places i never thought i'd see in my life. sure other lines may go to the same ports, but i seem to be most comfortable with norwegian. i have almost 2600 posts on this site, and in the past have indicated numerous times, once on board, my needs are few and far between. a number of their shows dont interest me, i dont stay up very late anymore, so i dont bar hop. the drink package in and of itself allows me to drink more than i should or normally would. im on vacation, and there is no one at home i need to speak to, so the wi-fi is irrelevant for meet, we usually hire a cab so i rarely book an ncl shore excursion. so, at the end of the day, im very happy just to be able to relax on a cruise ship and watch the world go by. again, after all is said and done, regardless on little annoyances, my long lasting and on going complaint is the sogginess of the hamburger buns. If that's all i can b***h about, i figure i'm still batting 1000
  19. also, its probably a great deal easier (for everyone concerned) including you, your partner, mil, crew, etc, if you all check in together, if not, make sure your mil has her own set of cruise docs
  20. flaham: that's probably while they fall apart so quickly. we've sailed on most of the ncl fleet, and i find this an across the board problem. LOL* * and talk about getting off topic!!
  21. for what it's worth, we're booked on what i believe is a similar itinerary at the end of this july . it leaves from southampton and ends up in copenhagen. got a pretty decent airfare on british airways also why dont you try and give this one a look
  22. chiefmatejrk. as always, thanks for your post. i was beginning to think that i was the only one that got my posts censored or deleted. on top of everything else, it's very nice to know we also have this in common. have you noticed that whenever cc deletes a post, they never tell you exactly why. at the end of last year (2022) they banned me entirely for 4 days, again with no specific explanation. i feel bad that some posters are so thin-skinned as to not like what another's response might me.
  23. question is "how much did it cost you in bids, as opposed to the actual cost of this cabin"
