  1. @gburleighwelcome to cruise critic!! Yes, the industry was shut down for 16 months but it's been back up & running fine for 17 months. Sounds like these are goodwill FCC -- either bonus ones because you received a cash refund for April 2020 cruise or just the extra FCC for the 1st round of cancelations. Do go into your account as Shelly97060 suggests just so you know whether you have other FCC & where your FCC expiration dates stand. Then maybe a short cruise to burn through the 816FCC ? I've cruise with a broken foot before and whereas it hampered me off the ship, I was just fine onboard. That wouldn't stop me but we're all different
  2. I don't add to the tip but I don't subtract from the auto tip. I understand that we earn more here but I've seen those wages in the Philippines and know that they're being paid more on the ship. I stock snacks for room service & steward (and yes that's individual chip bags & chocolates, must appreciate them as they help themselves). I do not consider myself 'cheap' and am relieved that they don't stand at my table hoping for more still. I felt that was demeaning. FWIW I often eat out in the no tipping zone at home. Prefer it just added to the bill here too ~~~ hope that practice becomes more common
  3. MLB watch party tonight. Platters: veggie, fruit, gefilte fish. Also: matzo ball soup, bread, rice crispy treats & brownies. I purposely told people no chips & dip. Izena!! That's just an average of 66 miles a week. Yes, Belle, we're all cruising happy!! Out of FCCs finally so writing checks (figuratively not literally) now. At least prices are low. In fact I've never paid this little per day before and I upped my category from outside to balcony!! Jo, voted by 'internet?' Wish we could do that. Too bad about Guernsey but I also missed it once. Was it current or something else? Jan, 😁🔔
  4. Its no longer 'officially traditional dining,' its just same table / same wait staff / same time. Cannot be arranged in the app, must be arranged with the HW in the respective dining room (not available in MDR midship deck 6)
  5. Thats not Salty Dog Gastropub. No real similarity between the 2 other than the 1st 2 words in the name
  6. I can only sporadically post but can read. My phone doesn't like updates Waist back down 1/2". Thought I'd be up but not. And no idea why. I voted 2 weeks ago so I'm with you, Izena. Add to that the calls to buy my house, contribute more to charity, politics, fear religious groups .... itz exhausting Walked this morning but only a 1/2 hr as it was 35°. Still under 40°. It's November. Supposedly our warmest month. Very strange weather
  7. I admit that I packed differently (22" + 2 bottles + flowers + Koda's suitcase to pass him off to Sohnjay at the Ferry Bldg) when I take Bart to the ship. And probably will do so again 4/2023.
  8. I want this!! If it shows up will wear white jeans & sparkly top. Find my sparkly gold flipflops. Not dressy but keeping with theme
  9. I can't find mine. Hope I didn't leave them on Ruby Princess (took Bart to that ship so my biggest suitcase) Bottom line. It shifted from formal wear to dress to impress. Which is sort of like dress how you would go to the philharmonic. I don't know anybody who wears a text/ sequined gown there anymore but also nobody wears cutoffs And yeah, gotta leave space for chocolate now that the steward doesn't leave it at night. Priorities Apologies for taking topic off track
  10. Its not just California cruises that have a lot of open rooms. I'm on a Florida cruise in 5 weeks and there's a ton of unassigned balconies. I'm in 1 but wonder if those on inside rooms will get upgraded
  11. Maybe mens shoes are different but my block heels take up a lot of space. Maybe I could switch to kitten heels. Oddly my dress doesn't. It's those darn heels. Plus in order to make the 17" suitcase work I have to pack my underwear flat. I've tried the roll method and it doesn't work .... plus opting for skirt over more socks. (Not digging mine out but these in silver)
  12. pack less candy Formal dress requires formal shoes. Shoes are a problem. Replace candy with souvenirs on the way home
  13. Formal wear takes up 1/2 a suitcase ... the difference between a 17" and a 22" case. (23" with wheels, carryon -> checked)
  14. As a woman, I will wear knee length shorts to MDR just like I would to a restaurant here. But not any shorter. I am wearing long plain jeans (without contrasting stitching) plus a dressy top on formal evenings (or what now seems to be called "Dress to Impress"). I have seen some cruisers (1 elderly lady in particular) try to file a complaint about what others were wearing with the Loyalty and Events Mgr. Employee handled it well. But not doing anything Yeah, I really prefer Dress to Impress over Formal
  15. The only reason I packed Hersey mini bars for steward & room service was that I actually had room!! Thats what happens when I pack shorts for Caribbean versus long pants, more socks, & another sweater for Europe
  16. I couldn't fill 1/4 that if I packed everything I own!! (Saw 2 rows of suitcases)
  17. Wear jeans / top / sweater on plane. Pack 2-3 pants, skirt, 4 tops, 1 dressy top, underwear, sandals. Pack 3 colors (next trip is white & blue cutoffs, mint green capris, jean skirt, 2 tank tops, 2 long sleeve tops, 1 chiffon top) Toiletries fit in 1 qt bag. Food fits in purse. Fly in day or two before. Buy wine embarkation day. Then use laundry services onboard
  18. I got 2 coffee pkgs on September 2, 2022 but only 1 was activated at a time. Not an issue on a week cruise but I still ran out on the 15 day cruise. Even with 2 pkgs
  19. Personally this summer (& Heathrow) taught me that I don't need as much as I thought I would. Granted I was only in UK 2 nights before the cruise & I might feel differently if I was land based for a week beforehand (like November 2023 & April 2024) but for a regular trip I'm starting to pack light. Thank you to the April 2022 Pacific Northwest Cruise roll call members who gifted me my new favorite suitcase!! An awesome 17"
  20. I take it onboard. It's either my 22" or my new 17" carryon (just 1 + purse). Take it directly to my room. Then off to MDR for lunch. The heaviest it's even been was 12kg. That was when it was loaded down with formal wear.
  21. And the wellness check is gone (for my future cruises anyway)
