  1. This isnt really true at all. It can be a reason but isnt usually.
  2. City status in the UK can be associated with having a cathedral or a university, a particular form of local government, or having a large population
  3. Would have loved that. At least its real. Much better than those wearing Ramones T shirts who dont even know who Ramones are. I could have talked to him for hours. I magine that compared to "Nice Tux, where did you get it?"
  4. Not sure you should be getting personal hygiene mixed up with dress code.
  5. Edinburgh is my favourite City in the UK. Its so much better than London. So, what other cities knock the socks off London? Liverpool Manchester York Durham Glasgow Newcastle Upon Tyne Bath And contrary to popular belief, I like Birmingham. And I love Dundee
  6. I swear I wouldnt notice. Unless someone walked in still wet from snorkelling, with the snorkel still attached. The poster you quoted said, "you are not looking hard enough" if you dont notice. Why would I even need to look? IO am enjoying my meal, and working my way through the cocktail menu. Looking what others are wearing is about no. 23,345 on my list of things to do.
  7. I dont doff my cap to truly wealthy people. Seems a weird thing to concentrate on.
  8. My kind of dress code. There will be some furious with you though. You just have to laugh at them.
  9. I refuse to pay more than £10 for a shirt. I darent tell you what I see as a rip for shoes. I would love to be sat next to you on a cruise being judged because if it. It would be comedy gold.
  10. I never wear shorts. So this doesnt bother me. But in my simplistic view, life is too short to care if someone else in the dining room is. I am usually having too much fun to even look at how other folk are dressed. I cant contemplate my night being ruined because the fella at the next table isnt wearing a cravat. Where do you draw the line? I mean, well, clothes dont necessarily make everyone easy on the eye, shall we say.
  11. Someone smoking might impact your health and enjoyment. I agree with you here. If someone is wearing clothes that get your disapproval, I suggest you get out more.
  12. Always makes me laugh this. Why would any fella feel the need to dress up like the Penguin from Batman, just to have a very weird fake photo taken, when they should be having a good time, and getting happily drunk?
  13. There is no insistence on participating in this "dress to impress" nonsense. Mutton dressed a lamb is still mutton anyway. I know. I AM that mutton. And I have never been turned away from any restaurant because I wasnt dressed like I was attending an interview. Just dont dress like you have just left the beach or a building site.
  14. I think I would like your other half. I reckon he is right about the ritz too. Just over priced pretentious nonsense. Quite a pompous place. A very pompous place actually. Yes I have been in. Wife wanted afternoon tea. Many many years ago. I didnt understand the fuss
  15. Mmmmm Opinions eh? it isnt even the greatest City in Southern England, never mind the rest of England and the rest of the UK.
  16. Personally I wouldnt wear flip flops, ever. Nevermind in the dining rooms. Ripped jeans I have no issue with though I dont wear them. I wear dark blue jeans all the time, and I mean all the time, with polo shirts, all the time. I dont wear suits, no longer won one, and havent worn a tie in 20 years. So to answer your question I wouldnt know if they would be allowed but would be surprised if anyone walked in wearing them. Although, maybe someone can explain to me the huge difference between a fella wearing flip flops with ugly toes, compared to woman wearing sandals with ugly tose?
  17. Just wear what you like. Celebrity is great for not enforcing daft fancy dress nights.
  18. Two 50 year olds cruising together? Got to be either Celebrity or Virgin Voyages surely? Two many little creatures on the all the others.
  19. Find a hotel away from the tourist trap of Leicester Square/Piccadilly Circus. Would recommend Tower Bridge area. You have the bridge, the tower of London, the shard and Borough Market all close by, and Brick lane not too far away. The City is close too with its imposing buildings, like the Lloyds Building and the Gherkin. Buckingham Palace isnt worth seeing. It really isnt. And Oxford Street is a nightmare.
  20. Never contemplated this but what price point is it? Have to have a balcony too. It's the law in my house.
  21. Well some really good advice here. I fully accept being a creature of habit, and maybe even starting to moan about what I have liked previously. All that said, my concerns about Celebrity revolve more around what I heard the CEO say, and her corporate none answers to straight questions. I am sure the others are similar though tbh. Looked further into virgin and princess and I definitely like the look of virgin more than Princess. Will see after May.........on constellation. A prediction I will be having a particularly great day one day mid cruise, and will be happily inebriated. And will book a 2025 cruise whilst in that state.
  22. As you said Birmingham to Southampton, there are many direct trains from Birmingham New Street to Southampton Central. Easily the best way to travel with disabilities. Staff at the stations are very helpful. Its a 2..5 hour journey. Its no more than a 10 minute taxi ride from Southampton Central to the cruise terminal. Even 1st Class train tickets are only £100 each.
