  1. Any of the ports outside of Florida will cost more than any of the Florida ports. (Why we sometimes drive from Charleston, which has the Sunshine, to Jacksonville or Tampa which have similar cruises for much less) I always assumed it was a supply and demand thing. How many cruises a week are departing from Miami, Tampa, Port Canaveral and Jacksonville? How many from Galveston? Looks like 5 sailings on 3 lines over the next 4 games. Charleston-2 Carnival cruises per week. (at least Galveston you have 2 Carnival ships and RCCL and NCL) Much more competition from other Carnival ships and from other ships from every other cruiseline in Florida. For instance.Miami..today -4 ships from Carnival, RCCL, MSC and Virgin Tomorrow - 5 ships from MSC, 2 RCCL, carnival and Disney Sunday - 3 from NCL, Virgin and Carnival Monday - 5 from NCL, RCCL, Celebrity and 2 from Carnival So 17 choices in just 4 days. Versus no competition in Charleston, Galveston, New Orleans, Baltimore, etc. Jacksonville only has to compete with all the other Florida ports.
  2. I think both Sanchos and Paradise beach have been pushing the AI since the restart. I think they both still do PAYG, but AI guarantees you a spot. Hopefully somebody who has done either recently can confrim the PAYG still being available. Might want to see how many ships are in port that day, to see how full the two spots will get. (so as you know your odds of PAYG being available, or AI filling up both) Otherwise you can pivot to other suggested spots that I'm sure many will chime in with.
  3. Its just a matter of being passable when other options aren't very good. (when buffet food all looks blech and the deli line is 30 minuites long too. On the Sunshine last month, the deli line was longer than the pizza line everytime I checked.) I can't think of one mass market pizza it is better than. (which is sad)
  4. Thank you so much for the review.
  5. "9 months later..." How many pages does one have to dive for that.
  6. The bisquits last month on the Sunshine were harder than hockey pucks. Never even got as far as the gravy after that. Didn't even worry about the grits, if you can't make a simple bisquit. Said to my wife at breakfast, how sacriligeous, on a ship homeported out of Charleston, SC , you can't make bisquits, gravy or grits.
  7. First dinner in ATD on the Sunshine last month, dinner was well over 90 minutes and we missed the start of the Welcome aboard show. (I really wanted to see the movie at 7PM, but that was a pipe dream for sure) 2nd night was decently paced. The last night was super slow again and we missed the Rock show that night. So clearly it is happening to some folks. Glad you've never missed a show, wish we could say the same. Clearly the poor crew is understaffed and overworked. (our 3 servers were great and hustled their butts off, but they had too many tables to keep up with) Maybe if Carnival wants to keep running with a skeleton crew to keep costs down, maybe they could quit wasting thier time with the singing and dancing and let them serve.
  8. Bowling alley balconies are fantastic. Did one once on the Legend. First cruise that I finally felt a balcony was worth the money.
  9. Easily the Spirit class but sadly they will be gone in a few years and we'll be left with only the overcrowded giganto ships. The Spirit class wins anytime this is put up for vote, yet Carnival builds their new ships completely against why people love the Spirit class so much.
  10. Hopefully somebody else in the family harbor, also wanting bacon, will catch Robin Hood making off with all the bacon and break both his hands, to help him think through such stupid ideas. (maybe Robin can get Friar Tuck or Little John to apply his suntan lotion the rest of the cruise)
  11. Best answer to the OP's question without too much shade.
  12. We alwats choose Nachi Cocum every trip to Cozumel. We prefer a quiter, limited crowd day. Only once out oif 5 or 6 times there was there more than 4-5 kids out of the 125-130 person limit at Nachi. Nice beach strewn with Palapas and a very nice pool. (we usually spend most of our day in there at the swim up bar. I will try answer any specific questions I can that you may have. A little over a month and we'll be back again.
  13. Six ships in Coizumel is a medium, to light day. Eight ships is more the usual count. (I think almost every time we have been to Cozumel it has been 8 or 9 ships. Once we had a light day of only 6) Honestly it depends more on WHICH ships are dovcking that day with you. You can have 2-3 Fantasy/Spirit class ships for Carnival and 1 Oasis class ship will have more passengers. If you have too many Oasis class or the Mardi Gras, etc. in at the same time, THAT is a bad day.
  14. I've gotten the vanilla at Los Cinco Soles for decades and it has been good. (actually need a new bottle in a little over a month)
  15. https://cozumelinsider.com/?Page=CruiseShips It's only for the week of the cruise, but it shows all the piers schedules. Maybe if the RCCL and NCL cruisers complained to the other two piers they might post it in advance like Carnival and Puerto Maya do. 😜
  16. Yeah its not taking ziplocs on the ship, it would be trying to take ziplocs with loose items OFF the ship in ports. Many islands (reasonably so) have strict rules about only allowing packaged foods off the ship.
  17. The location was good if you wanted quick access to the lido dexk or Guy's Burgers. But loud as hell with lost people wandering the halls all hours of the day and night.
  18. The heated loungers and saunas were all working last month when we went. Good luck to you.
  19. Might help if you could say what state the questionable travelers were from. Hopefully somebody from those particular states could help.
  20. When are you cruising? I have been asking about Almaplena for months and only had one nibble from somebodsy going in November, who had been before. We are supposed to go the first week of December and are still wavering on booking Almaplena or not. (figured Maya Chan wouldn't be an option with 4 ships in port that day and turned to be right)
  21. Haven't been on a Fantasy class ship in awhile, but being on the Sunshine a few weeks ago, I'd say Carnival shouldn't put any more money into refurbs on her. She is in pretty bad shape. A lot of rusty spots and rusty loose doorhandles, etc. Holes in the balcony floor, etc. I'm curious to see how the Pride is in a few weeks.
  22. Well said. I agree 100%. I would love a modern take on the Spirit Class size, but know it will NEVER happen. Why sail with 2,000, passengers, comfotably, when you can sail with 4,500 packed into a ship, not 2 1/2 times larger? Its amazing how different the cruise space is on the spirit class versus the Fantasy class which are similarily sized. The Spiirit class is a much more comfotable cruise experience.
  23. Plus you can easily verify the forecast once you get a week or so before your cruise, just to lock in your plans for the day.
  24. When one of the piers was damagaed after a hurricane. once we had to tender into the ferry pier downtown instead at Puerto Maya like usual. I'm pretty sure NCL is usually the line that has to tender the most as RCCL and Carnival usually have enough piers for their ships daily. ' Not sure what Virigin is doing, as I haven't been in Cozumel since they came into existance, but I'll find out in December.
