  1. You might want to contact your travel agent or the cruiseline to see if they know what they will be using for tenders there. Could be the lifeboats, could be local boats.
  2. Some ships provide shuttles to town, some don't. Hotels in Reykjavik are mostly in the same area but not all are in the central area, so with the info you have given I don't think we can answer your question. I'd inquire about Holland's practices on their board. You can always take a taxi in Reykjavik or ask the tour provider how they suggest you get to the pickup point. I'm surprised a private tour wouldn't meet at the ship, though BTW, sunset is 10:30 in early August in Reykjavik, moving up to 8:50PM by the end of the month
  3. It is much more than "an old house". It's a full mansion with a world class collection of art from the greatest artists ever. At least read the Wikipedia article about it and the theft before you go, it will really add to the experience
  4. It is not uncommon later in the season for winds to be strong, like in September. There have been strong winds in western Iceland the past few days that may have caused issues with docking or tendering. I don't think there is any website that tracks this kind of thing, it can happen anywhere you are cruising. We've missed ports from Italy to Antarctica due to winds.
  5. Guessing the OP is a sailor based on the language!
  6. depends on the cruise and cruiseline. No hard and fast rule. Call your travel agent or the cruiseline and ask if there will be a shuttle. Or check your Roll call. Or hope for a shuttle but have a Plan B ready in case there isn't one.
  7. Not sure who the "A" company is, but Dial 7 and Carmel are recommended here constantly and I don't recall many folks coming back with complaints
  8. We got sunburned in Iceland once and then we wisened up
  9. No doubt, but such a cute airport, and you can walk to Toronto for a short visit without worrying about distances and time
  10. I've done that walk dozens of times. On a hot day you can mostly do it right along the Harbor and the air is refreshing and the views of the airport and ships is fantastic. Lots of shops and restaurants en route to check out, too.
  11. Porter is a great option. The airport you change at is tiny and the planes are very comfortable
  12. I would grab a cab. Or better yet. I would plan my flight to be after noon. NYC has bad traffic and that could stop your bus or car in it's tracks for some time
  13. Taxi or uber is going to be easiest. Taxis are on the meter so if you go in heavy traffic times it will cost more than off peak
  14. Other than the local bus in Reykjavik and maybe a pay toilet or two, you'll never need cash in Iceland
  15. Why not park at the Cruise Terminal itself? Nothing more convenient and the price is reasonable as far as NYC parking goes
  16. No reviews since September in Berlin for SPB: SPB Tours Berlin - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (tripadvisor.com) No reviews since 2019 for Helsinki: SPB Tours Helsinki - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (tripadvisor.com) Maybe post on the Helsinki and Berlin forums at TripAdvisor to see if anyone there has been in touch with SPB?
  17. SO may options in these ports. I lived in Boston until last summer. You can do a Fenway Park tour or you can walk the Freedom Trail or you can sail on the Charles River or you can walk the Harborwalk along the waterfront or you can explore the Arnold Arboretum or you can take an historic Harbor Cruise. See? So many options, and even with the details you have provided about your interests, asking strangers to pick the best for you is nearly impossible. It's like a stranger asking you what they should do in Baltimore. So many possibilities! Maybe look over the options the cruiseship is offering and see what sounds best for you and then ask about those specifically here? We can tell you if it fits your needs or if there is a better way to do something (like, you don't need a $100 tour to do the Freedom Trail, or you can take public transport to Fenway). Does that make sense?
  18. Depends on your goals. For warmest weather, take the earliest date For best chances of foliage, the 9/28 or 10/12 dates would probably be best, but there are never guarantees. 10/5 would most likely be smackdab in the middle of expected peak colors Cruises offer multiple excursions because they aren't "One Size Fits All". Without knowing your preferences it's pretty hard to suggest things. Do you like hiking? Other active outings? Boat tours? Museums? Shopping? Cooking classes? Etc
  19. Guest services is convenient but won't give a competitive exchange rate. They may or may not change back, it depends on if they will be doing another Canada cruise and expect to use the funds again. You will lose $$ again on the exchange back. Credit/Debit cards are going to cover most or all of your needs and you will get a much better exchange rate, even if your card charges fees for International transactions.
  20. HOHO buses aren't great in NYC. VERY hard to get on one once you get off, so OK, I guess, to do "a lap" to get your bearings, but not useful as transportation or to get off and expect to get back on without a lengthy wait. In July it is likely going to be VERY hot and sunny on that top deck, too. You might want to spend 30 minutes reading the NYC Forum over at TripAdvisor to get a feel for where people stay and eat and tour and what things cost. Once you have that understanding you will know what info folks need to help you, like exact dates, budget per night, and hopefully the neighborhood that really is best for you
  21. This is correct. The rich folks don't "work" on the island. And the workers aren't upscale, they are workers
  22. It's going to be chilly on deck up north, so a sleeveless tank will likely have you shivering. Ships are usually air conditioned quite well, so having a jacket or sweater handy is always a good idea, no matter where you are cruising
  23. Head nets aren't a bad idea. They are cheap, don't take up much space in your bags, and are environmentally friendly. We did 2 nights in Myvatn awhile back and the bugs were annoying but that was about it. Didn't see many insects at all in the rest of the country and we've been there many times
