I would say that for this family group, an Air B&B type housing would probably go a long way. That would give them space to enjoy Christmas Day with a home cooked meal etc. Also day to day it will help to be able to have breakfast at home. Most venues and events do not open until 10PM. It would very likely be far more economical than a hotel situation. It might counter any perceived flight cost issue. I use Google Flights extensively and have already set up my fare alerts for next Summer. They bounce around multiple times a week, sometimes as much at $50 - 75 for a domestic flight

I vote for Winchester for the Cathedral alone, The Keats Walk adds the potential for a riverside walk and birding opportunity. I know you mentioned you are are interested tourist locations, but the cathedral has been beautifully restored and is an amazing example of Gothic architecture . I always love Evensong in these spaces as it is a chance to hear music, usually sung , in the spaces the music as written for. No matter your spiritual belief, it can be a very moving experience. Winchester has a handy town website for tourism that has details of the walk. I always use Google Maps to help me find interesting restaurants and places to stay.

Pretty isolated from the heart of A'dam which is really quiet small and intimate. Handy for embarkation but less so for exploring You would need to feel comfortable with the tram and canal system The Anne franks House is about a 45 minute walk. Is it walkable, yes, can you do it, thats or your decision The Pulitzer is about 1 or 2 blocks from AFH and is located in a more established neighborhood and sounds like it would be more to your liking. Many restaurants of world cuisine, whatever you like. It is 5 star all the way they have a Gym, but no pool. They have their own private canal boats for private tours. If you stay there, it is highly likely the concierge can find out about a private gym with pool Amsterdam is no different from any other Urban city. You probably want to stay away from the red light district

I have same trip in January and have booked a small, local NL trip for first day/ night Tromso. Second day will self tour the museums. I used the general site already mentioned and other known tour guide sites and found the interesting local providers. It should be a Hoot. I will reserve the decision to chase in Alta for when we are getting near, in route. It is the desire to see the museum in Alta that takes priority (UNESCO site). If weather is favorable I might find a private chase.

you are going to need a paper and pencil to work it out. If you are embarking VANC and debark SEA somewhere you are going to have a logistics challenge. It is usually more economical to book a round trip air fare via one city. You then have to figure out the logistics of getting to or from the secondary city. Most people who fly in to SEA will take the train or bus to VAN. Factor in the time of departure for the bus or train, and the possible need for a hotel in getting that connection.Choices are somewhat limited dont over look round trip Air to SEA with a one way flight to Vancouver to start your trip. I am seeing ,with a quick glance about 120 for that one way trip. I consider that only nominally more expensive over the bus or train when you add in the logistics of getting to that bus or train plus the added time in transit. Personally I will pay more for the one way flight over the aggravation of transferring in to town to get the train or staying overnight to get the bus that shuttles to the cruise port in Vancouver from SeaTac. Now mind you this is coming from a Seattleite who LOVES trains, but probably not after 6 hour cross country flight remember that if you are flying from the east coast time zones you are gaining a little time in your logistics so while it will be a long day, a connecting flight to Vanc at SEA might get you to your hotel in Van by late afternoon.

really right now the only people who can answer is Viking. speculation only fuels rumor. I am sure Viking has a lot on their plate getting folks in transit safely accommodated and trying to figure out a workable alternative to future trips where many other companies are also scrambling to figure out reworking ports. I think patience is needed to allow them time to get a policy and plan in place

I am doing this trip in Jan and live on the west coast. London is a much easier flight. Plus, well I love London so having 4 days on my own before is simply a bonus. The downside is the port of Tilbury which is not entirely convenient, but the train +cab or Underground+cab option doesn't bother me. At the end I have a one way flight back to London. This maximizes the price advantage of booking a round trip ticket from the same city. The flight from Bergen or Oslo is inexpensive. The train ride from Bergen to Oslo is considered one of the worlds best. I am planning extra days in London after because, aside from being London< the Northern Lights trip from earlier this year ( Feb) was almost delay 2 days returning to port from stormy seas. That way I can buffer my return flight from ship delay. I didnt bother with side of ship. The balconys will be of no use and for viewing the land and seascape and watching for lights, you want panorama views provided by the up top lounges

Kwells ( hycoscine) Avomine ( promethazine) and Stugeron (cinnarizine) are examples of these Trade name ( generic drug name) Scopolomine patches are sometimes use but they are contraindicated with some eye and heart conditions and can have a tricky rebound effect. YOu can look for these medications at your drug store or on line such as Amazon UK. Again if you are on medications for heart, neurologic or eye conditions talk to your pharmacy associates. Meclizine (trade name Dramamine less drowsy or Bonine) might be available on Amazon UK. It is my drug of choice and I use it for vertigo as well Candied ginger is another popular item. There are both Euston and St Pancras PIs, each within 1 block, across street of each station. There is also a King Cross PI just at the east entrance of same and a Hub 1 block north of that. Hubs are great for those who need a convenient, inexpensive, no frills compact place to sleep. Hub appeal, perhaps, to a younger crowd and has a slight tech vibe.

Totally fine. There are countless numbers of other flights you could jump on. Not to mention, you get the time zone advantage. Dont drive, just jump to another flight or airline. Costs far less than gas and parking

I have stayed in this neighborhood many many times. It is one of my favorites . Marchmont street is filled with unique , diverse shops and some fun eating. Close to the west end theatres but far enough , on the backside of the university, so that it doesn't feel congested. Be warned Russell Square station does not favor mobility impaired users . It is , however on the Piccadilly line and therefore a straight shot from LHR

the only issue I have ever had , and this was not with a Viking related transaction, is that international exchange and rate determination is driven by the stock market. as such the transaction has to be done while the market is open to secure the rate and to complete the transaction loop

I am a nature nut so the experience of Midnight Sun, tundra flora , sea birds, whales and meeting the people are huge bonuses on my list. You find wonder where you will. Some people can see all of this and think nothing of it. Others get caught up in the magnificence ad cannot get enough. There is no single answer but if I was making only one journey, I would open myself to trying to experience as much as possible. You never know , when you pull a string , what whole new world will open to you.
