  1. What a difference a couple years make. Our last Celebrity sailing was January, 2020, and we paid an average of $320 a night total for the two of us. That was for a balcony, and it included premium beverage package, Wi-Fi, and gratuities, for both of us, plus $500 in OBC. Their prices are about double that now.
  2. Been busy the last couple of days with all the grandkids. We watched my daughter’s two, while she was out to dinner with some of her teacher coworkers. They were all here again today, and we went out to a fitness trail while Susan had a doctor’s appointment. The kids have put up a magnetic board in our living room, and they are counting down to the next big adventure. They are excited to spend next week there. Meanwhile, I found a Green Hawaiian on the restaurant menu tonight. I guess tomorrow will be packing day. I am just glad Susan is better than she was a week ago.
  3. The problem with the Sony TVs, is they last too long. I keep saying I want to replace ours with a larger one, but this one keeps going like the energizer bunny. cute grandkids. You should keep them around longer and spoil them some more.
  4. Today has been a jam packed day. Started with bike riding this morning. Then it was time to finally hitch up the boat for this season’s first voyage. But first, a stop for subs. This place has the largest ones. The boys were ready to go. Some leftover sub rolls for the wildlife. It was a beautiful, sunny day on the lake. After my granddaughter’s gymnastic class, she and my daughter joined us. Granddaughter had the first tube ride of the season. Now, the boat is put away, and we are enjoying a Doobie Brothers tribute band.
  5. Last night’s fireworks show was not as good as the one the night before. Due to the winds, and temperature, the smoke was getting pushed toward the viewing area. It made the fireworks look like lightning in a cloud. We did have a good time. All the kids seemed to gravitate to my vehicle. I think I counted my three plus 7 others. Maybe it was because I had blankets for them to hang out on. And maybe because I showed up with lots of glow sticks. IMG_7858.mp4 I think I enjoyed them all with thes, more than the fireworks.
  6. We will see what she finds out on Friday. The good thing is, she says she feels like herself today. I keep telling her to not push it, and take it easy. She is going to go with me and the grandkids, as we get some lunch then relax on the boat in the sun this afternoon.
  7. I am really annoyed with her doctor. She can’t even see her until the 7th, and then, it will be with a nurse practitioner. They told her they probably will not even test to confirm, because they would just put her on the drugs she was prescribed when she went to urgent care. Susan is just tired of the constant headaches, fever that keeps coming back, and body aches. She wants to feel better, yesterday. She will miss out, once again, tonight, as we meet up with my daughter and her family, along with several friends, for another fireworks show. At least tonight’s show is closer to home.
  8. It has been a long time since I have seen long lines at gas stations. Drove by two Sheetz stations, and the lines are 1/4 mile long. They are selling gas today for $1.776
  9. My day, yesterday, without Susan along. My California grandson, Lucas, and I met up with my daughter and granddaughter for a walk on a trail near their house. The kids found quite a few ripe blackberries to eat. I took them all out to dinner, before our planned evening of watching fireworks. There was a specialty drink on the menu called ‘Merica, which was supposed to be layered red, white, and blue. It was a minor fail, because the white had mixed by the time it made it to the table. I know I have trouble keeping layers, when I make layered drinks, but it was still tasty. After dinner, we stopped at a little trail near a waterfall. Tonight, we were traveling to Westminster College for their fireworks show. Westminster is where my daughter received her undergraduate degree. It is also the setting used for the Christian Bale movie, The Pale Blue Eye, because the buildings resemble West Point in the 1800’s. The River City Brass Band was set up, lakeside, to provide music for the evening. This is one of their YouTube videos. From Pittsburgh, they are the only, full time professional brass band. The grandkids were all set for fireworks to begin. This is the first time I ever went to one of their shows, and was surprised how large the crowd was. It was a beautiful night for it, and the kids had a blast. IMG_7817.mp4 Tonight we will be going to another show.
  10. She is a little better. Thanks for asking. Yesterday was the first she could get out of bed, but by evening, her temperature and aches were back. We have been leaving her behind while we are out having fun.
  11. What I remember about Cartagena, was how hot it was. We visited in April, the year we sailed. I looked back at my notes, and it said the temperature was 83°, but it felt like 130° with the heat index. It felt every bit that hot.
  12. You would be surprised at the number of antennas and satellite receivers you see in a campground. Camping is a far cry from the days when we would pack all our supplies and a Coleman tent in our boat, and take our kids camping and boating at Kinzua Lake in northern Pennsylvania. It is now all about having the comforts of home when camping.
  13. So here is a question for our friends on this thread. Do any of you still have family reunions, or is this a dying trend? And by this, I don’t mean small gatherings with immediate family, but rather very large gatherings with extended family with all the misfits included. When I was growing up, we always had a yearly get together with descendants of my great-great grandfather. Everyone would descend on Unk’s farm. There would be tons of food and games. They would grease up a pig, and have all us kids run around like fools, trying to catch it. We would usually have 200 to 300 show up. (Did I mention that my ancestors had lots of siblings and kids) Well, this year marked the 120th family reunion, and there were only 19 to show up this year. We were not ones, because we were in California to pick up our grandson. Due to low turnout, it doesn’t look like there will be a 121st. I guess with families so busy with everything, they are too hard to coordinate anymore. It is a shame to see this fade away. By the way, one of the relatives put together a 300+page book for the 100th, that included information on all the relatives. I can not imagine the amount of work it took to compile and index every one of the 2,000+ names. This is just one of the sheets from the index.
  14. See Royal’s site https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/what-family-legal-documents-do-i-need-to-board
  15. That must be her case. They are putting her on meds for four weeks. I hope it gets rid of her aches and she gets some energy back. We are taking all the grandkids to Myrtle Beach in a week.
  16. According to my new calendar page, we are due to see some fireworks this month. Grandson spent the night with his cousins last night, so I have to pick him up later. Meanwhile, I am sitting at the Urgent Care Center, waiting on Susan. I hope the figure out what is wrong. We were thinking possibly Lyme disease, because she had a tick last week. No telltale bullseye, but I don’t know if you actually need one of those.
  17. She is home resting today, while I have the grandkids out to contemplate the water wall at the Japanese restaurant. And have some fun at the indoor trampoline park Happy Anniversary
  18. Happy anniversary You and your family are in my thoughts. I know how hard that is. My niece lost her husband last year, and it is still hard on the kids.
  19. We are still under a code red alert for air quality today, because of all the smoke. It did clear a little yesterday morning so we could get out for a while, but then it came back. Don’t know if that is what caused it, but Susan started feeling “off” while we were out, then felt sick by the end of the day. She took a Covid test, so it is not that. For some reason, she still takes those. Maybe because she is still a Covid virgin and she feels she missed out. Golfing grandson won his second match yesterday, so now at 2 for 2. He was pleased with his play, and the course had his picture on FB for a birdie on the toughest hole on the course. Talking about taking all the grandkids and daughter to the Japanese restaurant for lunch today, while Susan rests.
  20. I don’t know. Both my kids gravitated toward newer music for a while, then rediscovered the artists from my era. Grandkids also love the music from our era. Beatles, Motown, Rod Stewart, Stones, Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffet. I think my one grandson would be a great team mate for trivia. He knows the full lyrics to so many of those songs. None of them have become a Swiftie yet, and probably couldn’t name one of her songs.
  21. I actually have two turntables. A Dual 1228 and a Technics SL-D3. Hmm, for some reason, these are now listed in the vintage category, much like me. FWIW, they do still make turntables, with some good ones in the $200 to $600 range.
