  1. Bob, I will throw in my 2 cents, because we have traveled much of this area with my son and his family. As far as Napa goes, we have eaten at a couple places up there, but nothing memorable sticks with me. When we drive there, we go past the Sonoma Speedway on the 121, and this route will pass many wineries on the loop. One place on this route has something that looks very interesting to me, and I think I would like to try it one time. Vintage Aircraft company has air tours in vintage aircraft. We would see them flying over the wineries or restaurants when we were there. This is their website. http://www.vintageaircraft.com/ For San Francisco, it looks like you are hitting the popular spots. My son lives in Marin County, and they rarely go to the City because the homeless and drug problem is so bad now. You will likely see many along the Embarcadero, including around Pier 39. One seafood restaurant we enjoyed was the Waterbar. It is along the waterfront, almost down to the Bay bridge. They do have an extensive drink menu. https://www.waterbarsf.com/ Not too far from Pier 39 is the market place at the ferry terminal. It is unique to stroll through there, and it is south of the pier for the ferry to Alcatraz. We definitely enjoyed our trip to Alcatraz. If Muir Woods National monument interests you, it is a short drive beyond the Golden Gate Bridge. I think that they have changed to a reservation system to go there now. Lots of people walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, but it will be even colder and windier when you are there. Chinatown in San Francisco is unique, but it has been years since we were there. You probably have your plans already for Monterey, like making the 17 mile drive, visiting Carmel-by-the-Sea and maybe playing one of the golf courses. If you do go to Carmel for the sunset gathering at the beach, if you walk to the right along the beach, you can climb up to one of the greens of Pebble Beach for an unauthorized photo op. (I am not saying how I know this, but I just do. 😉) Hopefully some others will chime in with some more info for you. Enjoy, but be sure to take warm clothes.
  2. I would want to shorten any flight, by as much as possible. My daughter-in-law has to fly to Singapore on business next week. From San Francisco, it is a 17 hour and 25 minute direct flight. I can’t imagine being on a plane that long.
  3. @grapau27. Graham, sending my best wishes that the shots give Sarah some relief. @Momof3gurlz. Deb, hoping you have safe travels and a wonderful cruise. Remind me again, are you doing a live cruise report? @dani negreanu. Also thinking of you and your family today. @Ocean Boy. Safe travels to your cruise tomorrow. Hope your flight is good to go. Will be interested in hearing your impressions of Odyssey. We enjoyed her and would book again.
  4. That is really close. I recall him talking about a 39 ford. It appears it is a 39 ford V8 coupe. Looking at the front of it, he also added some gingerbread to the bumper and some additional lights. It looks like his grandmother was photobombing this picture. That was what I initially thought when I saw the emblem on the fender skirt. It would have made sense, because his dad was a Pontiac guy.
  5. Today is Remembrance Day for my dad. He passed away 8 years ago today. So for those who like old pictures, here is one of him that was taken in 1945. Bonus points for those who know the year, make and model of his car. I noted that he had a few extra add ons for this car.
  6. I have yet to encounter a broken one. Now, having to wait for them to turn it on in the morning, that is another thing. We always take a bottle of Carmel with us to add flavor to our lattes.
  7. I found one picture of the DL food at breakfast time, when we were on last May. That’s the only time I went, to get some lattes.
  8. I remember driving through the South years ago. As we were driving, there was an announcement on the car radio about a tornado. They said “Everyone should take standard precautions!” No explanation of what those might be. I guess now we know it is to go to Buc-ee’s. We will be awaiting or winter storm, which is either rain or snow or ice according to the weather app. Should be fun.
  9. Woo hoo! After 6,101 posts, I finally get to join the 5,000 club Somebody remind me again, what do you win besides this fine looking email? 🤣🤣
  10. Is it just my imagination, or do the glasses seem to be getting smaller? Maybe it is just the way you are holding it.
  11. A few pictures from last night’s supper. It appears we may have a filet mignon shortage in our area. Had to visit three different meat markets. One of the butchers I talked to said they were all out. Well, we did manage to find some. Of course, that is baked corn in the background, and something new that I tried. Susan told me it was my job to make some creamed spinach. I am not usually a spinach eater, unless it is something like spinach artichoke dip. It is hard to make it into a nice presentation, but it did taste rather good. Even the grandkids loved it. Susan even tried some different potatoes. Redskins, bacon, cheese and sour cream. Everyone liked these too.
  12. Now that they have starlink, do they still do either Surf or Surf and Stream? If so, are your speed tests the Surf and Stream version?
  13. It was a 73 Chevy Vega. I think I paid about $2,300 new for it. It was about all I could afford at the time. The front fenders rusted out rather quickly. There were a lot of stories about that trip that never went into that letter. 😉 That letter was one of a few I saved when we went through things after both my parents passed.
  14. No I didn’t. Unfortunately, my writing no longer looks like that. Now, it looks like I went to physician penmanship school.
  15. Happy Lunar New Year to any who celebrate. The year of the Rabbit. A time to relax Just gave my California family New Year wishes. They have to celebrate at home today, because my grandson is sick with a fever.
  16. We did something similar for our honeymoon in 1980. Did a seven day cruise on the SS Norway, then time at Disney after the cruise. Don’t remember how much it was then, because it was all part of a package deal I had my TA work out. December, 1973, was my first trip to Disney. Worked it in as part of a road trip to the Orange Bowl with a couple of my fraternity brothers. Evidently, it cost $5.75 then, or at least that is what I wrote to my mother. We took my new car (bought with my liquor, or was it Lipitor concession funds), because it was the most reliable. This is me in the middle in the IC shirt. Yes, I know, that car was one of a couple bad decisions over the years. We traveled very cheaply. Yes, that is one of Florida’s fine beaches. Maybe we’re we’re pioneering homelessness, because it took a few days for the police to run us out of this site.
  17. I just saw that. For some reason, my eyes were reading liquor this morning. I noticed when I scrolled back to see where I missed a discussion on liquor concessions. Guess you know where my head is today. 🤣🤣🤣
  18. I think everyone has to be 16 or up to do that, because you may encounter characters in partial dress. I think it has been referred to as “Murder the magic”, because people may be carrying character’s heads around. I guess they do not want to traumatize young ones.
