  1. Last night, we went to see the new Tom Hank’s movie, A Man Called Otto, on the big screen. It has been a while since we have been to the theatre, and those ticket prices are up like everything else. Even at senior prices, it was $25 for tickets, popcorn and pop. I saw the prices for non-seniors, and those would run $40. There were maybe 30 people in the theater for the movie. It isn’t any wonder that some theatres are closing. Hard to pay employees, building costs and rental fees when not many are going anymore.
  2. When we are traveling, it is always with Amazon music streaming and Waze for navigation. Never use the navigation screen in the vehicle, although it shows on one of the windows on the screen. I know that the maps are out of date on the Nav system, because one new toll road south of Pittsburgh isn't even on it. It looked like we were driving through fields.
  3. I still have all my “old school” components from the 70’s. Kenwood receiver, Dual turntable, and Pioneer deck. I had a cabinet maker build a custom oak cabinet I designed for the equipment, with mesh on the top doors for ventilation, and enclosed storage below for vinyl. Of course, it does store some other essentials too. It is still going to those monstrous BIC Formula 7 speakers as the main ones
  4. At our store, they are $5.99 a dozen, or $3.99 for a half dozen. I pointed out the price to my wife, and she said she never looks at prices. I think I may have solved a problem. Well, maybe not solved as much as discovered the source. 🤣🤣
  5. Does your DH ever give out his secrets for his interpretations? I have a friend from Jamaica, and her dad was making a batch of his special rum punch. I asked her if he would be willing to share his recipe, and she said he wasn’t even ready to share it with her yet. Some people like to keep their secrets close.
  6. And now for a game of Where’s Ricky? I think he needs more stuffed animals to hide in. This is only about 1/10th of what the grandkids have.
  7. I think I keep motivated by doing Fitbit challenges with friends online. We have had the same group of 10, keeping each other motivated for the last 7 years. No quitters there, although today is National Quitters Day (the day everyone gives up on their New Year Resolutions. I have been averaging that, most every day this week since we have a fierce competition going on. As for biological age, there are some calculators on line, and there are several factors they use to determine e it. I do see that, and prices are up there. I wouldn’t mind having the Camaro SS 396. My sister’s boyfriend had a new one in 69, and I remember a few times behind the wheel of that one. That is the first car I ever topped 100 mph in. It is a miracle we survived our youth.
  8. I saw this ad from 1969 the other day, and I thought there were at least a half dozen I would take at that price.
  9. Now you are making me feel old. Everyone ages at different rates, so as they say, age is just a number. I prefer to look at my biological age, instead of my chronological age, because it says I am really 10 years younger. I haven’t given up on any of those house maintenance chores yet. I am a big proponent of trying to stay active and healthy. It helps when you have a group supporting and encouraging your activity levels and completing every day. That is one reason I love my activity tracker. My day yesterday. I have been doing this every day for 7 years, and it does make you feel younger.
  10. We got our Christmas decorations put away last weekend. Well, almost all. We had bought a pencil tree to put in our family room this Christmas, because our main tree was in the living room. Susan really liked that pencil tree and didn’t want to take it down. So this showed up yesterday. Now, it is a Valentine’s Tree, decorated with hearts. I can see this staying up for other holidays. Just ignore the snow on the branches.
  11. Graham, wishing the best for your Sarah. Those types of back issues can be very painful. I hope she has a speedy treatment and recovery.
  12. January 11, 1664. The invention of the party, the first of which, according to the journal of Sir Thomas Browne of Norwich, occurred at the celebration of the birthday of Mr. Henry Howard, 7th Duke of Norfolk, at Norwich on January 11, 1664, when they kept up the dance until two o’clock in the morning. And why is this important? This was just part of the write up for a party invitation by my friend Dennis, to celebrate and recreate the invention of the party he hosted on January 11, 1980. Was it really the first time “the party” was invented? Who knows, but it sounded like a good reason for a January party back in 1980. In fact, back then, we could come up with many reasons to have a party. Why do I remember? Well, it is an anniversary of sorts. It was at this party, 42 years ago today, that I met my wife Susan, on a blind date. Six months and 22 days later we were married. However, that party started at 9 pm. We just remarked that if we were going to that party today, it would be starting past our bedtime. 🤣🤣 We have had some laughs already today, remembering that party.
  13. I saw some of those pictures of Capitola, and one report I saw said the beach was washed away. Sad to see the damage there. We visited there a few years ago on a weekend trip with my son and his family, that also included a stop at the Mystery Spot.
  14. You did good, if you got it all washed out. Several years ago, when my kids were young, we were making one of our annual driving trips to Florida for the holidays. I was driving an old Crown Victoria at the time. While passing a semi truck in Georgia, he started to pull into my lane. As I swerved left, that fine, red, Georgia clay started to suck my car down the median. So in fine, National Lampoon Vacation mode, I thought if I got enough speed up, I could make it to the bottom and back up the other side. As I looked in my mirrors, red clay was flying everywhere. Long story short, the wheel wells, undercarriage, even the engine compartment had that clay in it. Even after a thorough cleaning, I would still see some red, for quite some time when I washed that car. Just one of life’s little adventures.
  15. I noticed this when I was walking back from our mailbox yesterday. I know it has been a little warmer than usual, but didn’t think it was this warm.
  16. Thanks for the input. Yes, I have been to Tire Rack, and they have tons of information, enough to overwhelm you. Depending on what sites you visit, you can get 10 different answers for what the best tire may be. The Tour HP is what replaced the Tour, but it doesn’t seem to rate as well. For the past 10-15 years, I have stayed with Michelin because they have been good. The set I have has 45k, and I could probably get another 10k from them, but would like a little more tread for winter driving. No real amount of snow in our forecast for the next 10 days, so I have time to do more research.
  17. I am looking for a little info from our friends here, on tires. On both of our SUVs, I have been running Michelin Latitude Tours, and they have given me good mileage, ride, and performance in the snow. However, Michelin discontinued these and replaced them with Tour HPs, which do not appear to be as good. So now I am researching new tires for our Highlander. I have looked at a couple from Goodyear that rate high. I have been looking at Goodyear Assurance Comfortdrive and the Goodyear CC2. Both appear to rate pretty high. The only thing that concerns me is the CC2 has a directional tread, so rotations could only be front to back on the same side of the vehicle. Anyone have any experience with either of these? If so, how are they for ride quality, quietness, and performance in snow? Or, has anyone used other tires that they would recommend.
