  1. We have never had a complimentary upgrade on a ship. If we book a cheap guarantee cabin, we cruise in the same cheap guarantee cabin.
  2. Indeed, culture is so fickle. What was culture this year will become so last year in 6 weeks time.
  3. You can't really gauge the 160 cabins, as 100+ of them could belong to unallocated guarantee bookings. That is why they do guarantees, as that way they have a widest choice available till the last available moment. The best guide for an undersold cruise is when you see the price take a dive.
  4. Well, no. P&O has one, and not sure it is much better than the sale they have every month. Princess has one, and I was all geared to get a recent booking repriced. Turns out we scored a better deal 3 weeks ago than what the Black Friday price is. I am still looking, and I haven't spotted any deals for Carnival yet. Maybe when the US wakes up for black Friday there will be something.
  5. Culture is much like beauty - in the eye of the beholder. In this case, I guess they are talking about the Yartz.
  6. Correct, and comparatively easy. Another option is to just show up for dinner together and ask to be seated. In the grand class ships, Princess usually still has one of the 3 dining rooms as a fixed early/late option as well, just like the old days.
  7. Verifly was required when HAL (and others) required proof of covid vaccinations. That ended here in August.
  8. I was all locked and loaded ready for the Black Friday sale to get a recent booking repriced. Turns out we scored a better price/OBC three weeks ago than what is available during the Black Friday sale, at least the Aussie version of it. Ahh, smoke & mirrors! Glad you have got everything ready to roll next week.
  9. Do they still make them? I still have a Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Blue Mountains, ACT edition. I can also remember going into the NRMA to the map section to get the freebies whenever you were going on a road trip.
  10. My nightmare is when I get to the ship and realise my passport is still at home.
  11. Often called a Ned Kelly pie, and one of my local bakeries does a good one - Ridgey Didge Pies
  12. That is really weird. I wonder how they could smuggle the cat aboard. Junior cougar. And one cat is mentioned as the same risk as 129 doses of covid.
  13. I take my Gregory's when we cruise, in case the Captain gets lost.
  14. There must be a lot of nasty cities in the world. I don't consider Sydney to be unfriendly or unsafe in any way, but I wouldn't say it is outwardly friendly either.
  15. Just don't go goggling it. Fair to say, that these don't meet Cunard's formal night dining room minimum dress standards. See, back on topic. 😁
  16. True. Also wrong ship for Captain Kate, who while also being happily married, is also the Master of Celebrity Beyond. Even Tasos has jumped ship, so there will be a new skipper down here on Edge.
  17. Swimmers when I was growing up. Now budgies or .... stickers.
  18. Nikko = Texta, or a permeant marker. Americans tend to call them Sharpie's. Like a biro, they have little to do with local language, but are just brand names. Much like calling something a hoover instead of a vacuum cleaner, or liquid paper instead of correction fluid. Tilly was also brand related to UK Leyland utilities during WW2 (Austin's. Hillmans etc). To call a Holden Ute a Tilly would be a stretch. Nikon = camera Nickoff = go away
  19. Hmm, maybe not. I don't think Chili would get an audience with bug.
  20. @cruiser3775 Play on, but the general guide is the one that guesses the photo location is the one to post the next photo.
  21. My wife was born in Cairns. She has a friend named Tilly (not short for Matilda), but hasn't otherwise heard of that. I only visit QLD occasionally.
