[Note:  this is my first visit to the board; it's title seems quite general, sounds like place to ask for advice].  We've been on 51 cruises, mostly on Princess.  Our favorite kind of cruise is a TA, either WB or EB--we've done a number both ways.  Love the sea days when there are interesting lecutres and many other activities onboard.  Also, TAs are the best value IMHO and one only has to fly overseas one-way.  Our favorite itinerary that wasn't a TA was a 10-day northern Med cruise from Civitavecchia and included Rhodes, Santorini, Athens, and Mykonos in Greece; Istanbul (overnight) and Ephesus in Turkey; and Naples (Celebrity Galaxy, 10/2008).  Another interesting itinerary was on the Celebrity Eclipse RT from Southampton in 9/2014 which stopped at Gibraltar; Malaga, Spain; Genoa, Livorno & Civitavecchia, Italy; Villefranche, France; and Lisbon, Portugal (4 new ports for us).

You have had some great itineraries.

  2. I can see issues if you don't buy unlimited wifi.  Logging out is so important.  Have lost minutes on prior cruises because I did not log out.  But with unlimited medallion net; not a problem.  For those who have on board credit; take a screen shot of your personalizer account on the day you cruise.  So when you board ship it should match what shows up in your on board folio.  Can be frustrating. It took me 8 days on a 14 day trip before the money showed up on my account.  I figured the ship staff would figure it out with corporate prior to end of cruise.  Sure enough; on day 8 it showed up on the account.  No worries.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I am contemplating a solo cruise on the Caribbean Princess in the early summer.  Would you say this is a good ship for a solo cruiser, mid-40s, looking to relax but open to enjoying some nightlife?  I sailed on HAL with my kids in Alaska, and there was no nightlife to speak of on this floating nursing home (I say that with love as my kids and I loved our cruise and they both look on their experience as their favorite kid club experience ever, and I enjoyed listening to music while reading my books at night).  Being solo I would be more open to dancing/fun, but not sure this is the right line for that.  The price (for me) is unbeatable on any other line.  Just want to make sure this is a good use of my limited funds.

What is the overall vibe on this ship?  Anyone with summer Caribbean experience?

Hello and welcome to my thread.  For solo cruisers I believe this ship would be nice. There is Club Fusion which has music every night.  They usually have a band playing in here. Skywalkers is located at the top of the ship and they have a disc jockey playing music into the early morning. Skywalkers does not start until 10pm . The Wheelhouse bar located on deck 7 aft; has a band playing too. Explorers lounge is located midship on deck 7; and Crooners bar is also midship.  this bar can have almost any type music each night. I hear what you are saying about Holland America. My niece sailed with them and she said she could never find anything to do at night for nightlife.  The ship is beautiful, the staff were great, and the caribbean is awesome.  I have been to both eastern and western caribbean.  Ask away if you have any more questions.  Cheers

While true for many ports, if Santorini is included on the itinerary, I wouldn't go ashore again if 3+ ships are anchored.

I agree with you;  too many ships for Santorini.  two is the most they should allow at one time; unless they have two in the morning and leave at noon and two more arrive at noon and leave at 9 or 10

Another item that made me more frustrated than others is that I prepaid for the medallion net service, got to our cabin and had a letter that stated that we had prepaid and gave instructions on how to access and activate.  Log in to it, and the option to activate the prepaid net was not showing at all.  Had to wait until the manager showed up at 5pm and waited in line for 30 minutes to speak to him.  He had me log in, select the elite free minute plan, then did something to update my plan to the unlimited.  He said it was an issue they were working on.

Not sure if others on the cruise had the same issue or not.

They were having same issues on Caribbean Princess last month.  People pre-paid and could not log on or set up unlimited. The line at it desk was long

  6. If you love history and want to learn about biblical stories; then Ephesus is the town to see.  No one who goes there has anything bad to say;  they love the experience.  I will say this;  do not go in summer;  try for spring or fall;  the weather will be better.  I have always gone in May and weather was in lo 80's

  7. I believe the medallion program will be good.  It has some glitches; and they need to tweak it;  so within the next year, everything should be running more smoothly.  When I sailed Caribbean Princess in Feb; the medallions worked very well; getting on and off ship was a breeze, buying gifts and ordering drinks was easy.  Take is easy and enjoy your cruise.  The medallion program is still in the beginning stages.

I was on the same ship, Feb 9th to 23rd. Whole heartedly agree with your comments. Loved the ship so much, I've already booked it for next year, southern Caribbean itinerary.

Planks was a worthwhile venue as well. Barbecue specialties, great value for 12 bucks! Food in all venues was excellent; refreshingly modern in New World Market especially. Chef Guido was with us for most of the trip, but he left partway into our second week.

I'm curious. Was he the chef who showed you around?

His name was John Convery.  Ran into him in world market buffet and we chatted.  I have a food service background
