  1. My insurance agent confirmed that “You will be able to get the money you paid for the cards back”.

tripinsurancestore.com.  This applies to a claim for a covered reason, not CFAR.

Again, I check with my insurance before buying the cards.

@cruzsnoozestates if you cancel or have a price reduction, refunds go back to the card.  Also if you buy a shore excursion and the port is canceled, refunds are credited to your OB account,  This happened to us as well, but we used those funds. So it’s a big of a calculation.

As others have said, no limit.

However please search some of the threads about GCs and trip insurance. TL/DR, if you have to cancel your trip insurance may not reimburse you for the amount paid with gift cards.

I asked my agent about this last year. I stated if I had to cancel for a covered reason, I didn’t want gift cards as a form of payment. She replied that isn’t a problem, but I can’t remember how she put it.   She did say any reimbursement amount would be for what you paid for the cards, and therefore you can only insure that amount.  I imagine a CFAR policy would/could be different.

I will email her again as I am getting ready to purchase cards next month.  Will report back.  It is certainly worth communicating with your agent, before purchasing.  This is tripinsurancestore.com.

  3. We are on the 8 day- Sky May 24, 2024 cruise.  Geiranger remains on the itinerary.  I had read about the April cancellation on another site. This was about a month ago.

I would  maybe ask your question on this forum.  There is an active poster who seems to have a lot of knowledge.

I agree to go as soon as you can.  I’m on a roll call for the May cruise that already has about 120 members, mostly UK citizens. I believe there is also an August 7 day on the Sky.

  4. Yep, saw that about a month ago.  I was comparing the prices/availability, and I remembered  something the onboard consultant said regarding the location in the booking engine.  I had gone to see him as I was unable to find them when I logged onto my device from my cabin.  This was for the Sky Princess.

  5. The onboard currency for Australian cruises is the AUD, not USD.  Posters have also reported that OBC such as the stockholder’s OBC was transferred 1:1.  So quite a bit of a loss of about 35% or more.  (as of today).

I think there maybe some exceptions regarding transpacific crossing and dates, but will let others comment on that piece.

It seems the PDF is no more.  The above link no longer takes you there.

So this happened before.  I was checking for it sometime in the spring, in between a February and July cruise.  A few weeks later it was back.  I don’t “think” there were any changes at that time, however.  Certainly not some of the perks being mentioned now.  So maybe check again in a few weeks.

  7. The suites didn’t receive a half carafe of wine, but do have that minibar.  You still have the reserve dinning, plus; laundry, send out and tokens, speciality dinning room breakfast, full menu in room breakfast, first night speciality dinning, spa access(some ships) and lounge with a concierge on Royal class ships. Priority tendering and embarkation.  I always print the pdf and have it handy, although there is a letter in the cabin, outlining benefits.  Of course,  more space as well.  Enjoy.

My family got to CA this morning. They were able to check in to their hotel in San Pedro this morning at 9am.  It was raining when I last spoke with my brother.  So now they wait and see what shakes out!

That’s great. They may have some stories to tell!

  9. As others have stated, there will be a lot of rain.  The system should be a tropical storm by the time it reaches California as the colder water “should knock the wind out of it” somewhat, pun intended.  Flash flooding is at very high risk in the desert and areas down hill from the mountain ranges, especially areas with burn scars.

In addition to the hazards of driving in the desert, CHP could very well close some of the mountain passes due to any of the reasons mentioned above.

Agree, ships may stay offshore, although the storm is predicted to swing east into the desert and towards Nevada as she moves into California.  San Diego, however, may not be as lucky.

Edit:  I see the OP friends/family are flying, but comments above might be helpful to others.

  10. Thank you @hallasm for the above information. We are back from our cruise.

We ended up booking a taxi through  Dantaxi with another couple and saw the major sites in about 3.5 hours.  This included hiking the sand dunes and walking out to Grenen as the Sandworm wasn’t running yet.  He picked us up at the port and dropped us in town. The shuttle back to the ship was not free despite what we were told on the ship, but a nominal charge,(cash).  Not sure if you could purchase tics somewhere else using a card, as we just hopped on.

I think the taxi costs us about $130 US per couple.  We ended up using cash- DKK as the other couple was Canadian. You could use a credit card.   I could not get  the DanTaxi app to work but I emailed Anne who made the arrangements.  Anne stated Dantaxi has a “few” taxis in Skagen.

We are currently onboard the Ruby.  Thank goodness the passenger that encountering the medical emergency was evacuated safely.  It’s nobody’s business what the medical emergency was and shameful anybody would film it.
Let’s  give some people some privacy and be thankful it wasn’t one of your loved ones.  If you believe, just say a prayer that the passenger is ok.

I agree about privacy. I authorized payment(if one was required) for members with these types of emergency “care away from home” while I was employed at the Bay Area’s largest HMO.  The video posted was of the chopper, neither a rescuer or a patient was filmed or photographed.  My post stated, “pics of a  Medical  evaluation chopper”.

My first concern when I read the OP’s comment was something had happened to the Ruby, given the issues at the port in San Francisco a few months ago.  Thank goodness the patient was safely evacuated and receiving the care they need.

  12. Aloha @dockman Mahalo for the update.  We owned a home on Hawaii, Kona side, Milolii, but sold a few years ago.

@Thrak, we know folks from Paradise as well.

    Both situations tragic.

  13. Some cruising from Southampton this summer reported being informed by staff(at the terminal) that arrival times were eliminated at the Mayflower terminal.  We met these folks onboard our cruise which was the second leg of a b2b for them. We embarked in Copenhagen.  No arrival times here either.

  14. Two recent cruises:

Royal Princess: I couldn’t  book until onboard, so saw concierge after boarding.  She called the dine line and handed phone to me. I got the reservation, but a different time than what I wanted. I didn’t ask for a different night as it was a short cruise.

Island Princess:  I could book, no charge. Checked a few weeks later; poof, it was gone. I tried  to rebook, system wanted to charge my cc.  Called and was told I had to use credit card to book.  I called the dine line once onboard, got the time I wanted.  No concierge.

These last two cruises, the restaurants were not busy most evenings. I don’t know if it was the increase prices, or the particular cruises.

I think the concierges were at the desk from about 1200.

We also paid $10 for shipping, but the medallion will arrive after we have left for London. I called, and they just said to pick up another one at the pier.

Just for fun, since it's been 20 years since we've been on Princess, I ordered custom medallions. I guess the ones that we'll get at the pier will be generic?

Ha!  They got their medallions yesterday.  They leave Friday, cruise is  7.12.  Good luck.  I don’t know  about the ones at the port.  I don’t think we ordered anything special.  We ordered to pick up at the port.
