  1. Before cruising was halted we went several times. It was a new club that time and it became our “go-to” place at that time. Good food, drinks, loungers, service, quiet atmosphere snd often live musician. The first time we went back after cruising resumed we took a walk along quite a length of the malecon to see what was still open and survived shut down. Malecon21 continued to receive good reviews from land visitors so we knew it was still open and called in for a drink and snack. Unfortunately the owner didn’t seem to be present although and service was very poor to the point that we never got our second drink and left without ordering food. The loungers and beach service are across the pedestrian-way and now require a minimum purchase, like most places in Mahahual, but cover charge for the day is reasonable. This particular day we just sat in the comfortable bar/lounge area (which doesn’t require minimum purchase) since we only ever planned to stay a short while. Bar service snd attention would hopefully have improved now cruising is back in full force and the beach area probably has dedicated servers. I got the impression we were ignored in the bar area in favor of those either staying at the hotel or regular land visitors. Unfortunately there seemed to be new, younger inexperienced staff and no one that we recognized from earlier visits. We would probably give them another chance sometime in the future to see if service has improved. Unfortunately there have been a lot of changes in Mahahual generally and our recent experiences have been disappointing.
  2. 5 ships is not unusual. It is more important to note how big the ships are that are in port with you that day. Cozumel can dock 8 ships at one time.
  3. OK. I am not sure why it is causing so much confusion. Your email response seems to be the same as was posted last August in this thread, the same as I received last year and the same information as several posters who have actually been have already confirmed. That was the reason I asked if you had a further question. It is basically a minimum cover charge per person. If you reserve and pay a deposit you are guaranteed a spot otherwise if you arrive and the loungers have gone you will have to sit at the bar, or move on to another location. Presumably if you sit at the bar there is no minimum charge. The prices have certainly gone up from when they first opened but glad they are still in business. To me the most confusing part about Antigua was the apparent lack of regulation of the taxis, if you didn’t have a pre-booked driver. It would seem that at least you get a designated driver if you pre-book.
  4. cooking with Josefina. Cozumel food tour. Electric bikes. photo tour with Tati Biernas. lots of new restaurants on Melgar and two new food truck type places back on 10. Custom tour around the island with private driver - we use ToursPlaza. Pueblo del Maiz Mayan Bee Sanctuary Chocolate Factory Small ruins Volunteer at dog shelter Museum in town. Not sure how active you are, maybe Amazing Race if it us up and running again.
  5. Yes i wondered. Adventure and Voyager and a similar sized Carnival are still listed in port schedule.
  6. Did Progresso ever get the go ahead for the ship building yard and is that in progress?
  7. This has already been announced some time ago for Adventure sailing this month.
  8. Are you suggesting ships may tender at Costa Maya, or another port on the itinerary? 4 ships can dock at Costa Maya since the extensions to the pie, including two Oasis-sized ships. However, depending on winds direction docking isn’t always possible and we have been on and seen ships abort focking for the day. OP was docking today according to original post.
  9. Hasn’t this already been discussed above? what more do you need to know?
  10. People have always been “able” to get home without passports, just like if they are stolen/lost when you are flying. It doesn’t mean it isn’t a whole lot easier if you have one. I have never understood the reluctance of Americans to not get a passport, or why they think it is OK to go overseas without one. The fundamental problem here isn’t whether or not the cruiselines “require “ a passport. Obviously they aren’t going to make people get something they don’t have to get as it reduces their eligible market.
  11. Is the 340 solo discount combinable with most promotions, and TA group pricing, refundable deposits or are there restrictions as to when it can be applied other than certain time restrictions?
  12. Personally, with the AI pricing that Paradise is pushing at the moment I think that is a very expensive pool day for young kids who are not old enough, or big enough, to utilize the other activities at ParAdise Beach. As much as I think the facilities there are very well maintained I think for that age group you can get better value else where. YMMV and of course depends on budget. IF you can get PAYG, it is a possibility but lots of alternatives for me.
  13. Can’t you use your phone to access the app? I understand preferring to use the tablet, i use my iPad all the time but I do have it installed on my phone too.
  14. With kids that age i would go to Chankanaab ( for dolphins), Playa Mia or Allegro.
  15. What is the $18 for - the water park pass? Recent reports are that Paradise Beach is very crowded and almost exclusively AI now.
  16. Oh OK. Adjustments are always to be expected after repositionings. - just ask the folks in Texas when new ships come to Galveston! Hopefully they have new suppliers now and things have improved. The reaction to the new menu has been the same as the reaction to new menus has been for years. Everyone wants a change, until it happens, but somehow we survive and move on.
  17. Was it the “new” menu or just a different interpretation to the usual?
  18. Wow, there have certainly been quite lot of changes since we visited years ago! I see they are affiliated with Mayan Princess now. I think it is about 30 - 40 minute ride from Coxen Hole?
  19. That photo doesn’t look familiar. Here is an old thread where it was discussed and I presume is still current for excursions, although there are three resorts I believe that also have over the water accommodations i believe on Roatan.
  20. If I am thinking of the same excursion thst was a Carnival exclusive excursion which changed locations several times depending on who the contracted with. The first place was certainly close to Palancar. I don’t usually sail Carnival and i haven’t seen it mentioned in a long time.
  21. Yes Palancar was one of our early favorites but was disappointed last time with crowds and food so haven’t been in a long time. Bob Marley and much of the east side is good so long as there isn’t sargassum, which can be a deal breaker. i think the huge increase in ship size and increased capacity is the biggest factor in overcrowding although i hear so many cruisers say they don’t leave the ship or the port these days so it makes you wonder how many actually make it past the port gates!
