  1. I will try a fake booking to see what is the final price . Thanks for the promo heads up.
  2. Just checked my future booked cruise for 2025. It went up $200.00 pp for our DV1. Also checked a Nov 2023 transatlantic crossing and the price is same. I was hoping for a real sale on this cruise.Maybe next month.
  3. Sorry Pete B. it took a mid cruise survey to get the time you wanted at Manfredi. I , as you know, was on the same cruise and booked Manfredi for first night on MJV and requested a shared table. Ended up eating with Eva and Tom from our roll call for dinner. We also ate at Chef table three times, all booked on board once we found what the menu was for each day. Missed you at the roll call meet and mingle in the Wintergarden put on by Viking . It was lovely. Hope you had a great cruise. I know my sister and I did. it was beyond our expectations which was very high. And the weather gods were shining on us the whole time, only rain briefly one morning. Booked another cruise while on board . Cheers, Patti
  4. It was part of a ship tour on a Celebrity cruise many years ago .
  5. Thank you so much for the for your post and reference about George's tax. We are doing the two night post extension and flying one day early on our own. I think I will hire them for a day tour. I went to Corinth many years ago. Saw the historical site of Corinth, the museum and had a boat ride through he Corinth canal. Sorry that it was 1 inch of snow that kept you from experiencing it. Half of the ports I have been too but half will be new for me. My sister has never been to Greece. I do want to spend time in the Athen's archeology museum.I missed it the last two times in Athens. Cannot wait to eat some great Greek olives and feta cheese.
  6. Your pictures are so crisp and clear. I feel like I am in Iceland and on the ship at dawn. The first picture is a perfect reason why I cruise. Nothing beats the view of the land from the water. 🛥️😍
  7. Thank you again for the great pictures and descriptions of the excursions to Delphi and Mycenae . I have to wait till Feb 2025 for our Greek Odyssey cruise. A little snow flakes and cold temps at higher elevations are fine with me , better than the heat of summer and the crowds of tourists. Feb in MN is no walk in the park. 😂 I plan on bringing layers including a quilted vest and light down jacket easy to pack . What did you bring in way of outdoor wear?
  8. Clay, I had Cava on the Jupiter in June. I was so excited to see it on the bar menu. I see they do not have it listed on any bar menu for the Saturn? mmm...
  9. Thank your for the explanation . Definitely like the European style. 😍
  10. Yes it is Cecil’s and their bread is good but not the texture of Danish bakers or Mamsen rye bread for smorgasbord open face sandwiches 😋
  11. We do have a great Jewish deli in my neighborhood. Their pumpernickel rye is good but not as dense as Mamsen's or the bread I ate in Copenhagen.
  12. Yes, that is great bread. Ate it also in Stockholm and Copenhagen before and after our Scenic Scandinavian Cruise. My uncle was a Danish baker in MN and Eugene, Oregon. He made that kind of dense dark bread. He called it pumpernickel. Best bread for open face sandwiches. Cannot find in my city
  13. Thank you for posting your first experience on a Viking Ship. I too love the ship design and the DV staterooms are fine for us. We usually have a cabin either on the aft(DV1) or near the aft in various categories. I have never heard any sound from the next cabins. The service from all crew members is indeed outstanding! Food is a matter of personal taste. Sorry your selections you mentioned in the Restaurant were tough meat. Did you say anything? I have never ordered those entree, they not appeal to me. Always have very good fish entrees and love the daily salad or sandwich in the WC. Mamsen , a Norwegian Deli does always have the same menu, but I am still working through the various open faced sandwiches and soups on the menu after 5 cruises. I have no interest in trying any other cruise lines at this time, except the new Explora line which will have their first paying passengers on board in the coming weeks. Happy future cruising.
  14. Love your creative thinking when it comes to booking your own flights. I love your flight plans and cheaper than Viking Air. Madrid is still one Spanish city I need to visit .
  15. Herring pickled or in wine sauce or mustard sauce is both sweet and sour. I loved all three. I had it for breakfast alone with the waffle. I have never heard of tomato herring?
  16. You are a lucky guy. along with everyone on your sailing. 🥳Having such great weather adds to each day's adventure in such a fabulous area of our planet. Our sailing in June in the Baltic Sea had perfect weather, it only rained one morning , otherwise clear sky and calm seas. Thank you for sharing the great pictures of each port and the landscape!
  17. So sorry you missed Mariehamn. it is on a illdylic island of Arland archipelago. The moment I stepped off the ship, I could smell pine trees, fresh sea air and small marinas all over the island with sailboats it reminded me of the North Shore but no rugged coastline. it has a fascinating history. it is part of Finland but everyone speaks Swedish. Hope you get back to the Baltic Sea sometime and visit it.
  18. Love the menu at Mamsen,🥰 except for the pea soup. But my sister had it a couple of nights for a late snack. Ate there for breakfast , lunch an late night snack on our last cruise. Love the herring !
  19. Clay, My first chef table was the Erling menu. Erling is a nice Scandinavian name! It was delicious. but if I remember we had a dessert that had lingonberry's in it. Had it it on the TA from San Juan to Barcelona. Thanks for the pictures of the meal.
  20. Always have stayed in DV staterooms. I set up e- check in my MVJ (paying by credit card just adds additional step of entering your card info each time). Then pick my first priority optional tour and pay for it go back and pick second etc. I pick the included tours last. Always have gotten the optional ones I really wanted when the tours open up for booking. I loved the Panama full transit cruise many years ago. It is indeed a wonder of the world! Now they have two canals !
  21. Sorry for my mistake, that is good to know. Which airline flies direct to Oslo from NY? You are so lucky to live on the coast. Living in the Heartland we have very few direct flights to anywhere in Europe. MSP to AMS is daily but couple of others are seasonal. But we do always have direct flights to Japan, Mexico and Costa Rica. 😌
  22. Only once on my recent cruise was it loud in the Restaurant. We had two top with a party of 6 people eating nearby. They were having a great time but it was loud. After they left it was easy to have a conversation. The best table IMO is 105, it is in the back right hand corner when you come into the restaurant. The Restaurant manager Raymond and the best waiter we had on cruise . I fell so bad that I forgot her name, but did tell Raymond that she was the best .
  23. On my Viking cruise which is not offered again we did overnight in Stockholm, Mariehamn Arland Island;Gotland Sweden;Gdansk Poland, Karlskrona Sweden, Bornholm Denmark, Berlin ( Warnermunde) Germany,;Aarhus, Denmark and overnight in Copenhagen. I loved every one of these ports of call . My only regret is that we did not go to Norway. If you want to go to Nordic countries from the US , it does involve more than one flight. If you stick to London, Rome, Barcelona you can get a direct flight from some cities in the US, but those are not Nordic countries. Whatever yo decide to do, enjoy your cruise in Europe. 🛥️
  24. All true !Just got back from Baltic Sea cruise, called Scenic Scandinavia on Viking in Jun Too bad this same itinerary is not offered in the future. Which cruise on Viking are you looking at ?. 1. Some times we were the only ship in port. Easy to get off ship even for tendering in one port of call. 2. Resident Historian is such a great feature. Dr. Livingston is an art historian and archealogist. Gave informative talks on Viking Era, Hanseatic League that were excellent. We also had an astronomer on board who gave talks. The Port talks were by the ship excursion manager who explained the port of call and things to do on your own. Viking Oceans is marketed as a "thinking persons "cruise for the curious. It is true. 3. The included excursion are walking tours of the town or bus tours with stops at various locations. They also offer optional tours for prices from $70 - 200+ per person. We did a combination of both. I would definitely pick Viking over mass cruise lines like Princess or Celebrity to cruise anywhere in Europe.
  25. I would never go to Eastern Med in the height of summer. Too hot and too many people. Late October is perfect. In fact, I book a Feb Greek Odyssey cruise. The off season is fine with me, easy to get into the sites, and less ships in the ports.
