  1. Good point! Maybe the specific information will be useful to someone else. We used it as my DH is a retired fed. Our daughter. a county employed public school teacher, and our daughter-in-law, a county employee, haven't used it yet but hope to in the future.
  2. MSC offers a 5 to 10% discount depending on cabin category to active and retired US and Canadian military plus local, state and federal civil servants: Terms and Conditions Up to a 10% discount can be applied to the prevailing market and/or promotional rates based on ship sailing date chosen. 10% off is applicable on select Balcony, Suites and YC1 staterooms; 5% discount is applicable on select Interior and Ocean View staterooms. Discount rates apply to all to active and retired U.S. and Canadian military, civil service and interline personnel and their spouses, dependent children, parents, and parents-in-law. 3. Just remembered another overnight (also on Princess): Lima, Peru. This enabled passengers to take a two night tour to Machu Picchu and then meet the ship at the next port. We took two different 8+ hour city tours (one each day) with a private tour company with other members of our RC. It was great and very informative.
  4. When embarking in Quebec City Princess (and probably other lines) have an overnight on some itineraries. The ship doesn't depart until the evening of the second day. While not overnight, we were on a British Isles cruise that didn't depart Glasgow until after 1 am (having arrived around 7 am the previous day). This enabled passengers to attend the Tattoo in Edinburgh. It was probably our longest one day excursion ever. Our roll call group was picked up around 8 am and spent the morning and most of the afternoon touring southern Scotland in a van and were dropped off in Edinburgh around 4:30 for a couple of hours of independent sightseeing. We then had a group dinner organized by a RC member, then attended the Tattoo (we each bought our own tickets), and then met the van for the ride back to the ship. A wonderful, lovely and memorable day!
  5. On other Princess ships - and I can't imagine that it is any different with the Discovery Princess - the location of the Platinum/Elite/Suites lounge is dependent on how many P/E/S suite passengers are on board the cruise. The Vista Lounge holds many, many more guests than Take 5. So make sure you check out the information in your cabin. If you don't receive it upon boarding, check with the Captain's Circle representative.
  6. Go to https://www.msccruisesusa.com/manage-booking/msc-voyagers-club/status-match. In 2019 we just submitted copies of one of our Princess key cards that I hadn't thrown out and it was processed within a few days (although I have read complaints on Cruise Critic of the process taking longer). If you don't have one lying around, after you've logged in I'd make a screen shot of the Home screen since it has this information on the top of the screen: My Princess Home NAME Member # XXXXXXXX Your Captain's Circle level is Elite XX Cruises Sailed XXX Total Princess Cruise Days
  7. 750 days in advance for us. We booked our upcoming April 2023 Australia cruise the day bookings opened in mid-March 2021. Within hours only guaranteed cabins in our desired category (mini-suite) were available and within a day or two the entire cruise in all cabin categories was sold out. Since then, occasionally one cabin category will open for a day and be sold out again.
  8. See this thread posted a few minutes before yours. The moderator will probably combine the two threads.
  9. Our furthest will be next spring: Washington, DC to Sydney, Australia with a change of planes in San Francisco.
  10. I concur with the comments above but want to add make sure you have trip insurance! As others have said, if you are already on the ship the routing and itinerary will be changed. The problem will be if the embarkation/disembarkation port is in the path of the storm. Incoming flights will be cancelled, returning ships will not be able to dock, outgoing flight schedules will be chaotic possibly for days, etc.
  11. We saw this in Tallin but not due to the late arrival of an excursion as far as we could tell. Instead the passengers had been shopping. Repeated calls were made for 4 missing passengers to no avail. The gangplank was being pulled in and the lines were ready to be released when one of the missing passengers came running down the pier saying there the other 3 were at the beginning of the dock. Luckily there was a small car on the pier (visiting the British naval ship docked opposite) that reacted immediately zooming down the pier. While the driver stuffed the passengers (and their shopping bags) into the car, the ship's crew extended the gangplank. The entire 'rescue' mission took less than 3 minutes. The ship began to pull away from the pier as the gangplank was pulled back aboard.
  12. United allows it. Most recently, we've had seat reservations booked since June 5th on flights to/from Australia for a cruise that ends on April 30, 2023.
  13. Status Match at any level 'enrolls' you in Voyagers Club (otherwise you need to have completed 1 cruise to be enrolled) which entitles you to at least 5% off your cruise fare or, in the case of special promos, 10 to 15% off. As far as top tier status perks, the two that I remember are a free tasting menu dinner in one of the specialty restaurants and an invitation to the 'exclusive Diamond Party.' On our cruise pre-Covid, the captain and almost all the senior staff attended, there were excellent hors d'oeurves and drinks served by wait staff and a beautiful and tasty cake. It was much more impressive than the Princess version.
  14. Our record was 4 days (there was a note in the cabin upon embarkation saying that it would possibly take 3 days) on a 25 day B2B Rome - Barcelona - Fort Lauderdale on the Royal Princess with more than 1200 other elites IIRC.
  15. That is being discussed right now on this thread so compare responses here and there. Go to the last page or so.
  16. There is no mention of valet parking (and cruising our of Port Miami pre-covid I didn't see it) on the Port Miami official website (https://www.miamidade.gov/portmiami/parking-information.asp). Parking is conveniently available at all cruise terminals. Designated disabled permit parking spaces are available in each garage. Spaces are also available for oversized vehicles (oversized vans, recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers) at special rates. All facilities are patrolled by security. Oversized vehicles may only park in Lot #2, across from Cruise Terminal E. On cruise days only, all garages and Lot #2 are open and manned by a parking attendant from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note that Garage J is pre-paid only. Passengers pay upon arrival to Garage J and are given a decal to post in their vehicle for the duration of their cruise.
  17. And I expanded with a reply that may be interesting to other readers. Is that not allowed now?
  18. What date? What is your budget? Hotel rates vary greatly depending on the season. The airport (FLL) and Port Everglades are within sight of one another. Look for hotels around 17th Street (nearest Port Everglades) or Dania Beach (nearest FLL). You might start by checking out the official tourism website for Fort Lauderdale: www.sunny.org.
  19. Ughhhh! Safe travels and, I hope, a wonderful cruise with no return flight issues.
  20. In June 2019 we did a similar Princess excursion that took us to Windsor Castle and then to Heathrow when we had a 4:30 pm (IIRC) outbound flight. I was pleased to see that they limited the number of passengers on the bus to about 1/2 capacity since we all had lots of luggage. Our guide who was with us from start to finish (except during the audio tour at Windsor Castle) was excellent and the ride was scenic. We plan to do a similar disembarkation excursion to the Blue Mountains after our Round Australia cruise next spring.
  21. We had ice buckets on our two cruises (Caribbean Princess and Enchanted Princess) this year.
  22. Mine too! We've done this twice plus one round trip Seattle Alaska cruise. On our first Vancouver to Whittier (our first Alaska cruise and our first Princess cruise) we tacked a 4 day cruise tour on and even after 27 Princess cruises it remains one of our favorites (not that the others were bad).
  23. I just checked the Walgreens' website. In multiple places it said drive thru testing is free: Free drive-thru COVID-19 testing is available to patients ages 3+.* If you receive a Diagnostic Test and have insurance, you will be asked to show your insurance card at the appointment and the lab may bill your insurer. You will not receive a bill from Walgreens or from any lab partner. But when beginning to make an appointment this box pops up (which definitely wasn't there when we last tested in March): I didn't go thru the process of making an appointment so I don't know what the price is but it definitely looks like a recent change since the 'free' test is still hyped on the first page of the testing website.
